Phantasm. What is it? Fucked if we know! A young boy must fight against the forces of evil that include a killer flying metallic ball, warbling dwarves and a mysterious Tall Man. This is as straightforward of a plot description that you’re gonna get folks, because if you’re looking for horror that’s got balls… IT’S FOUND YOU. (And yes, that bit about balls is an actual tagline.)

    Phantasm (1979) | Episode #78

    Phantasm (1979) | Episode #78
We’re staring into the abyss of 1979’s Phantasm to see what will gaze back. Steve and Brock from the metalcore band, Gone Cold (https://linktr.ee/gonecoldva) join us to discuss their most recent EP, Misery in Hindsight. Along with their creative process and attempting to decode the insanity that is Phantasm. Could this take more than one episode? Only time will tell.

    Phantasm (1979) (PATREON PICK)

The squad gives a proper eulogy for Horror Hound Niklas' Patreon pick, PHANTASM (1978). Does this film cater to Mike & Rowan? Does the Tall Man “measure up” to his reputation? And, is Gill doomed to make enemies with her review? Tune in to find out if we gave this film a NAY, OKAY, YAY, or SLAY!

    1998 (Part 1)

    1998 (Part 1)

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a three parter anyways. 1998 was not a massive year for horror movies but if you are into J-Horror, Scream knockoffs and so so sequels is gonna be a bonanza for you. So many big budget also-rans as well... Jeez. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1998? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 6+ hour running time split over 4 episodes. This is 1998, A Year In Horror.

It's a pretty long journey this one, part 1 of 4 in fact. I am going to give you the time codes below so if you don't want spoilers then, please, avert your eyes.

Below are the timecodes for all the different segments and my guest links. Feel free to let me know where you think I got it wrong or right and of course stay safe out there & I'll see you next month.

    • 0.00 - Intro
    • 15.20 - Rear Window (w/ Rebecca McCallum)
    • 1.00.49 - The 10 Worst Horror Movies of 1998

Episode 357: The Wonderfully Weird With Campbell & Paxton

Episode 357: The Wonderfully Weird With Campbell & Paxton

There’s a little something for everyone this week on the Blu-ray scene. Especially if you like it weird. Peter Sobczynski joins Erik Childress again to talk about Criterion’s release of one of the landmarks of international cinema. Barbara Hershey takes on apartheid and Rory Calhoun explores as Marco Polo. Peter chimes in on the Black Panther sequel while there are also new 4K releases of an Oscar-winning musical and a charming zombie romcom. Then it gets weirder with a campy sequel getting its own 4K release, Bill Paxton fighting the homeless and a bizarre internet thriller featuring Peter’s favorite actress and one of Erik’s favorite musicians. Last but certainly not least and weird in the best ways, another tribute to arguably the best performance of Bruce Campbell’s career. Now in 4K.

PLEASE NOTE: Stella's deep dislike of Phantasm seemed to have cursed her mic so the audio quality sounds like it's coming from another dimension. Consider it a bad director's choice, like the choice to make Phantasm 5.

Sentinal spears are chasing Stella Cheeks and her special guest Jolene through a graveyard of dreams with nothing but a quadruple-barrled shot gun and a frisbee full of razor blades. Join them as they break down the "classic" horror series franchise Phantasm and try to answer the age-old question of "is this good bad or is this bad-bad."

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)

Everyone knows about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's time we gave the DC Animated Universe some love. "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" marked the first time DC put an animated feature into theaters, and it changed the way we'd see Batman on screen for years to come.

This 1993 release was loosely based on the graphic novel "Batman: Year One" and trade paperback "Batman: Year Two," so it had Gene's attention. And Big D watched a lot of "The Animated Series" while stoned in college. Needless to say, the Shat Crew was excited to visit a Gotham City envisioned by Bruce Timm and voiced by Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, Dana Delany, Stacy Keach, and Abe Vigoda.

In this episode, Gene and Big D cover lawn sex, Batman's detective roots, what a weak villain The Phantasm was, a weird romance, bad boy billionaires, the real motivation behind Bruce Wayne dressing as Batman, Alfred's horrid lot in life, the secret intelligence behind the Batcomputer, and flashbacks ... so many flashbacks.
