149: Are we on 'Cops' again? | Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)

in the 90s you could always count on a dark comedy. It's the best decade for these out of control stories with the most offensive humor. While society has changed light years it seems in about 20 years, there are still these 'time capsule' films that are so wild you can't even believe they were made. I questioned this very point when I watched Drop Dead Gorgeous about the literal explosive dark world of a local beauty pageant in Minnesota.

This was my first time watching and Charles hit this one again right on the head. I loved it. We talked about the stellar stacked cast,  how we love a mockumentary format, and basically worship at the altar of Kirsten Dunst.

off-topic rants include: Charles' wild boarding school weekends, a wildlife minute, The Simpsons, and Shazam

Ep. 8 Drop Dead Gorgeous ft. Rebecca Whittle | The Weiliotis Podcast

"I can sum up our entire philosophy with this glass. I can look at it and say it's half-full, which in the beauty pageant biz means "where the hell's my waiter?"

Tom and Mikey are joined by Rebecca Whittle, a former pageant competitor and fierce lover of Michael Patrick Jann's Drop Dead Gorgeous. We talk about the film's cult status, its connection to the real world of beauty pageants, and advice for those entering the industry.

This episode is "good" enough to earn outtakes. Listen all the way past the closing music, or just skip to that point. We would.

Lost Episode #1: "Drop Dead Gorgeous"

Lost Episode #1: "Drop Dead Gorgeous"

Welcome to the first of our Lost Episodes! These are episodes we recorded months before we started publishing while we were figuring out our equipment and format. We watched some good movies while recording these so we figured we would break them out occasionally. Case in point, in this episode we watch "Drop Dead Gorgeous"! Get into the Sarah Rose Cosmetics Mount Rose American Teen Princess Pageant. We pair it with a bottle of 2017 Pinot Gris by J Vineyards & Winery. Movie Sync Notes: We start the movie 9:24 into the pod and push play on part two at 1:26:46.
