Episode #60 - When Secure Attachment Feels Wrong

Episode #60 - When Secure Attachment Feels Wrong

So I have been going through something interesting over the last month that I wanted to share with you. A relationship that has taught me so much. First of all about how I was still willing to abandon myself on a deep level to have attention and affection, but secondly, and perhaps more interestingly, it gave me an inside look at how attachment styles can create nervous system dysregulation, and how this can lead to us feeling that the very thing that we say we want from a conscious level, actually feels unsafe for us to experience.ย

Listen to this episode of The Living Through Heart Podcast for more on this, my story, and what I learned from this experience. I hope you enjoy it.

    Manipulatives and Mental Health

    Manipulatives and Mental Health

Hello and thank you for listening to Curious Cat! If youโ€™ve been listening since Season 1, first off, THANK YOU! Hopefully youโ€™ve noticed a pattern, I only cover topics that interest me, sometimes itโ€™s a veiled excuse to buy three books on a subject Iโ€™d never heard of a week ago and obsess over it for a time. This week though Iโ€™m getting personal. Trigger warning for any sensitive listeners, because I want to share with you the ways I found to cope during the toughest year of my life to date. I hope by the conversationโ€™s conclusion, Iโ€™ll have given you some effective and positive ways to work through YOUR toughest days. I care and want you to know you are not alone. You wonโ€™t find fakery here, only a pursuit of real solutions.ย

Let me tell you about my toughest year โ€“ A time when Judge Judy and chardonnay werenโ€™t adequate to get me through.

Iโ€™ve always enjoyed doing Legos, bright colorful pieces, simple instructions, cool final results! But in the days after my father was hospitalized, those plastic bricks became a lifeline of sorts.

This episode, I tell you the personal story of how Lego building helped my brain recover from difficult days. I researched manipulatives, or items that occupy our fingers, eyes and attention, so that the brain can get out or fight-or-flight-mode. It actually works!

If the upcoming holiday season has you feeling anxious and stress, maybe something as simple as a puzzle or building set might help you find peace and calm!

    Reclaim Your Midlife Power

    Reclaim Your Midlife Power
Midlife Power - what does that mean?

Sometimes in midlife, we can feel a little lost and out of control. This new phase of life is marked by empty- nesting and changes in our bodies. Many times our thoughts and feelings are changing as well. If we are not mindful and strategic about our attitudes, it can feel like we're on a roller coaster. If you have had any of these disconcerting feelings about midlife, this is the episode for you!

Join Cam and Amelia as we discuss what you can control. Accepting control of these things will help you regain power over your life. This discussion explains how hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, melatonin, and cortisol, affect your mindset.ย

Cortisol has its purpose. We need a healthy cortisol curve. It regulates many critical biologic systems! But cortisol gone wild can lead to some nasty stuff, including depression and anxiety. You are not broken! There are physiologic reasons for your feelings. ย

We give practical steps to regain control over your thoughts and feelings, and we also give you ways to examine your beliefs so that you feel solid and supported as you transition into midlife. Midlife is the best life!

The Seven Stages of Spiritual Soul Awakening with El Alma

The Seven Stages of Spiritual Soul Awakening with El Alma
This conversation with El Alma, the author of Becoming Soul - Seven Steps to Heaven, is both enlightening and heart warming. El Almaโ€™s open heartedness and deep connection is evident as she talks about her own stages of spiritual awakening or becoming soul experienced as she and her daughter shared the journey to eternity through illness and death. This conversation reveals a very real life understanding that becoming soul doesn't occur in a single exact moment and instead evolves as we expand our daily life to include our soul and thus creating our spiritual awakening journey.
