Dj Emskee: Qualified Elegance Pt.2 (a down/midtempo club music mix experience) 12/12
This is another one for the serious deep, slow, club/disco heads. For those who's music tastes are qualified for the elegant standard of mixing. Again, the amazing picture that accompany's this mix is of a very good friend of mine, the unpredictable and awesome Gerry Visco (google her....she's fabulous), as a stunner of the 70's fashion movement. It, along with alot of other incredible images of her that you'll have to search for, was taken by the very talented Bobby Busnach who has history not only as a photographer, but is deep in music (http://soundcloud.com/bobby-busnach) and having worked at storied nyc vinyl havens such as Downstairs Records with Walter Gibbons, and the pre-golden age of Rock and Soul store in midtown. Part 2 of the good shit

Dj Emskee live (set #1) from RECORDnition #3 (Easy Mo Bee's Birthday Party) @ 2A in New York City - 12/1/12
This party has gotten better by the month since October. Here's my 1st set from the night as we celebrated Easy Mo Bee's birthday by slamming the place with joints all night. I played alot of danceable off the grid and on classic hip hop in this one. If you're in the new york area and haven't heard about this party yet if you love REAL hip hop, and real music in general, friend me on Facebook. Just search MARC SMITH -BROOKLYN NYC and my profile is a picture of my son....the cutest kid you've ever seen!! ha ha Then you can stay tuned to the invites, info, and other treats i post! Enjoy the energy in this mix. Bump and pass.

Dj Emskee live 17 minute set from J Smooth's Underground Railroad on WBAI 99.5fm in NYC - 11/30/12
You may say, "damn Em.....only 17 minutes". ha ha. The set was actually longer but we had a few technical difficulties that night so i edited the mp3 down to the good parts. I felt it was a dope set so i kept it....and it only turned out to be 17 minutes. A quick dope listen for the true underground hip hip inclined. You know the deal.....bump it and pass on.

Dj Emskee: Bellwether Gratuity Session pt. 2 (classic, underground club/house music mix)

Dj Emskee: Bellwether Gratuity Session pt. 2 (classic, underground club/house music mix)
Here's a mix i did just because the recording didn't come out at the gig i played them at. A spot called Bellewether in Brooklyn. I just used anything i had in the bag to re-create a mix that you probably would've heard had you been there. I don't want y'all who didn't make it miss out on this. It skips on 2 spots, but it's so dope i didn't even bother to start over. ha ha. Enjoy the dance vibes. Classic club/house from i'd say '90 to '93.

A Together Brothers Mix: Dj Emskee - "A Message In The Music"
If you're already familiar with mixes on my page here, you've probably come across another Together Brothers mix. This was the second mix from me in a series that me my New York super dj compadres Monk One & Qool Marv were going to release as a collaboration project back in 2004. Some known and unknown funk and soul goodness right here that i'm sure you'll enjoy. Blended and mixed for your listening enjoyment. There's always a message in the music. As always, download, and bump and pass on to the next deserving heads of outside the box music listening.

This is a track from myself (Emskee) and my partner The Saint. We're in a hip hop/soul group together called The Good People. This was a track on a special promotional cd for a NYC CMJ event called BEAM (Bristol Exchange Of Arts & Music). Artists from Bristol, England and Brooklyn New York came together for a night of performances at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, New York of 2012. This track "Mean Muggin" features the incredibly talented mc Jesus Mason, formerly of the group Sputnik Brown. DL, and pass around.

Dj Emskee presents: The End Of The Weak International MC Challenge champions on the Underground Railroad in NYC - 8/26/2007

Dj Emskee presents: The End Of The Weak International MC Challenge champions on the Underground Railroad in NYC - 8/26/2007
Hopefully you've checked the other post i just put up on the End Of The Weak crew, but this one is even more special. Since the crew is internationally minded, they've managed to start doing challenges in their chapters in other countries. I invited the crew to bring some of the international mc challenge champs from France (MC Warlock), Germany (Jorg), and England (Stig Of The Dump) to the Underground Railroad Show in NYC with the blessing of host J Smooth. Big Zoo and Vice Verses (two of the founding members) were on hand to monitor and run the power freestyle session. Enjoy the raw real in various languages. www.endoftheweak.com

Dj Emskee presents: The End Of The Weak crew debut on NYC radio on the Underground Railroad Show on WBAI 99.5fm - 7/19/2003
If you're a REAL mc in the NYC area, you have to have heard or been through the longest running weekly open mic in the city at the Pyramid in the Lower East Side of manhattan. They've been in the same spot EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT for the past 10 years. Wrap your head around that for a second. The founding soldiers, Big Zoo, Vice Verses, and Prolific One (shouts to Joey Ty) embody the foundation of hip hop lyricism and have cultivated a weekly open mic into a global connection over the last ten years with chapters in Africa, France, Germany, and England for starters. I decided to post this recording from the show i was on for 11 years on my podomatic page because it showcases the standards of lyricism that i co-sign, and gives a lesson of sorts to new jack mcs who don't bring the flow right because they're busy copying someone else's style to try to remain relevant. There are written rhymes here.....but most of it is freestyle/of the heads flow. A skill that many try but only a certain percentage are able to really showcase. Enjoy this nugget from my recorded archives. This show also features an apearance from EOW prodigy Vanguard and NYC vet Breeze Evaflowin. You can check out the End Of the Weak crew by going to www.endoftheweak.com or www.eodub.com. Or just google 'em. They're pretty popular. If you've heard of C Rayz Walz, Immortal Technique, Pack FM, Poison Pen, Homeboy Sandman, Pumpkinhead......and the list goes on....they all came from the bootcamp of the End Of The Weak crew. Nuff said.

Dj Emskee opening set from the RECORDnition Part 1 party @ 2A in New York City - 9/22/2012

Dj Emskee opening set from the RECORDnition Part 1 party @ 2A in New York City - 9/22/2012
It seems very wierd to say this in 2012, but there are really NO underground hip hop parties where djs spin only vinyl in New York City. The place where hip hop culture was born, does not cater to the those who still spin original copies of releases on vinyl. We all know the computer dj and digitalism in general has taken over the world, and because of that, and MY love for records, i decided to attempt to start a monthly event where the djs play all vinyl from the golden age of hip hop (say generally, '88 to about '97) called RECORDnition. Recognition of records....for the slow to catch the meaning of the name. ha ha. This is my opening set from the first one on Sept. 22nd. I didn't really know what kind of turnout to expect, and i must say....it was a bit overwhelming. I know there are many others out there who share my same struggle with still finding places to go where the music is specialized what you want, and how you want it....plus the people attending are super cool. I won't bore you anymore with descriptions of what went down, but vibe out to this set, and friend me on facebook (Marc Smith - Brooklyn, New York - my profile picture is me and my son - we're both very good looking so you can't miss us! ha ha.) so you can be kept abreast of the invites to the functions. As always, thanks for listening. Support the arts.

Dj Emskee all soul/funk 45 set from the "Never Not Working" show on East Village Radio.com - 6/30/12

Dj Emskee all soul/funk 45 set from the "Never Not Working" show on East Village Radio.com - 6/30/12
Big up to my man Old Chris (an incredible record collector and overall super cool dude) and his man Oscar for the invitation down to their show to spin all 45's. Before this mix, i can't even remember when i even touched my 45 records last, so going through my OWN records looking for stuff to play was an adventure. Hope you feel the same when you check this out. The first record sounds kinda "sandy" starting out, but after that it's smooth sailing sound. I stand behind the idea of searching for and playing music that is off the beaten path of what regular radio and other modern media outlets offer, and gives the listener of my mixes an alternative to another world of sounds. This mix also includes the new banger that my group (The Good People - www.thegoodpeoplemusic.bandcamp.com) and Dj Format from the UK came together (PAUSE) to make. A joint called "Marisco". dedicated to the UK's longest running nightclub at 45 years, down in a magical southern coast of England town called Woolacombe. I'll try to snag a playlist later (i can't remember half the stuff i played)....but for now, blast and pass on to others. Support the real....and not the relaxed.

Dj Emskee: The Bellwether Gratuity Session (classic and obscure dance music mix) 5/26/12

Dj Emskee: The Bellwether Gratuity Session (classic and obscure dance music mix) 5/26/12
Peace. So the story behind this mix is that the live sets from the RARE RADIO CREW....LIVE party at Bellwether in Brooklyn, NYC that i had anticipated on posting, sadly didn't come out because of technical difficulties. It was simpy unplayable. You're missing a monstrous set from Easy Mo Bee, and of course myself, Tomcat, Randy Anderson, and Dj Monk One. BUT, i decided to go back into the same bag of records i had brought with me to the party and do a "thank you", or, "gratuity" mix for all the heads who turned out in support of the 1st ever Rare Radio Crew live event for listen/download. At least you can taste a little bit of the flavor i brought to the set. Press play and dance. Stay tuned for more info on the next RARE RADIO CREW....LIVE throwdown. If you're not familiar with us and you need more past archived mixes of mine from the radio show on WBAI 99.5fm in NYC, browse my account. You'll find more of what you're looking for. Promise.

Dj Emskee: RARE RADIO CREW....LIVE party promo set on the "Downtown Affair" Show - WNYU 89.1fm in NYC - 5/18/2012

Dj Emskee: RARE RADIO CREW....LIVE party promo set on the "Downtown Affair" Show - WNYU 89.1fm in NYC - 5/18/2012
If you're familiar with the classic and obscure dance music Rare Radio Show on WBAI 99.5fm that i co-founded and hosted for 11 years (starting in 1999) you know that the program was definitely special and spirit moving. We always wanted to do something in a live venue, but the opportunity never materialized. Finally, on friday, May 25th, 2012 myself and other long time crew members will do the damn thing at a spot called Bellwether in Brooklyn, with very special guest, Easy Mo Bee. Crazy. This was a promo set i did the friday before the party on the really dope music appreciation show,"A Downtown Affair" hosted by some really good guys Mike and Alex. If you've never heard a Rare Radio Show before and not familiar with us at all, this might be a great starting point. Shouts to Dj Monk One, the other co-founder. He was supposed to do this show with me, but he had other commitments. Listen, enjoy, download, and spread the love. Thanks y'all.
