    TRAINING DAY

    TRAINING DAY

Finally, FINALLY: it's Denzel time. Denzel Washington, your parents' favorite actor and one of the top 3 superstars pumping out hit after hit still to this day, wins his lone Best Actor Oscar in the grimy, insane, GTA-inspiring TRAINING DAY, a dour portrait of a Los Angeles of Christmas Past when Sweetgreens didn't pollute every borough, Pacific Dining Co. was still alive and primarily funded by crooked ass cops ordering well-done steaks, and Echo Park before the transplants  gentrified it so hard that they could eat $23 take-out where bodies were once buried.

Are you a wolf? OR ARE YOU A SHEEP??

The duo discusses post-9/11 flops, Denzel Washington's disappointing track record, David Ayer's insane life story, the Church of Scientology, and being afraid of Mexicans. Are you ready to make detective?? Strap in.

    Ryan Gosling

    Ryan Gosling

In this week's episode of Roll The Credits  Ryan and Tina dive into the handsome hunk, Ryan Gosling. But first a flashback story of a time Ryan went to the ER because of some Fettuccine Alfredo. Tina's movie, The Big Short, prompts a question about wealth and how far the hosts would go to have it. As for Ryan's movie, The Place Beyond the Pines, this brings up questions about growing up and the guidance of parents and the impact they have on decision making, moral compasses and character building. All that and a whole lot more on this week's episode of RTC!

    Hitch

    Hitch

Hitch may have proven itself to be a little too predicable for Ale and Anneka, but they loved chatting about why this movie still brings them joy. Ale waxes poetic about Albert’s dancing skills and Anneka take befuddlement to a new level trying to grasp why Sara’s newspaper employer is so obsessed with Allegra Cole. Enjoy!

Episode 59 - Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)

Episode 59 - Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)

The boy is back in town. The boy is back in town.

That's right. Back for another live recording together, in the same room, holding hands, gazing longingly into each other's eyes, shirts off, all bets also off, and with more energy than any two boys should be able to muster. Brock and Brian watched the heck out of 2009's Nic Cage/Werner Herzog confusingly-titled and even more confusingly-shot collabo "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans." Truthfully, you can probably skip watching this one. We sure wish we had.

Before they go marching in, the boys have a special visit from a couple of real dirty dawgs, they recap their workout (#brockliftedmore), and they finally quit running with the devil and get right with the lord for Brian's daughter's baptism.

    Good luck with this one!

    Episode 22 - Ghost Rider (2007)

    Episode 22 - Ghost Rider (2007)
That's right. The original Ghost Rider. Fresh out the packaging. It's crazy to think that the events of this film would have such direct tie-ins and spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, but Marvel was clearly playing the long game from the very beginning. Where were we? That's right - Brock and Brian plopped on down and watched themselves a 2007 Nic Cage classic - "Ghost Rider." Was it any good? Did they prefer this movie over the sequel? Do the two films have anything to do with each other? You'll just have to listen and find out for yourselves (or...yunno...watch both films. But we don't recommend it.)Before they Ride that Ghost, the boys discuss their healthy dose of karma, their vision of the podcast's future, and one of them attempts to go clean. Will it stick? Maybe. But also, maybe not!Let's get into it!Find us on our Social Media, if you're so inclined:Twitter: @WeGaugeCagePodInstagram: @WeGaugeCageYouTube: We Gauge CageAnd, as always, rate and review us on iTunes if you can or haven't already.

Training Day 2001 (dir. Antoine Fuqua) Rated 18
Jake Hoyt and Det. Alonzo Harris spend the best part of a day in a modified car in the ghettos of Los Angeles. This is Jake's training day to see if he is up for being promoted from beat cop to nark; but what occurs instead is a rude awakening. The story follows them over a 24-hour period in the gang-ridden neighborhoods of the LAPD Rampart Division and South Central Los Angeles. The film was released on October 5, 2001 and grossed $104 million worldwide. Washington's performance as Detective Alonzo Harris, a departure from his usual roles, was particularly praised and earned him an Oscar for Best Actor at the 74th Academy Awards. His co-star Ethan Hawke was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as rookie cop, Officer Jake Hoyt.
