Fabulosity By Design with Terrence Williams - A Black History Month Conversation

Fabulosity By Design with Terrence Williams - A Black History Month Conversation

Minister La La sits down with Terrence Williams and they discuss his spiritual journey as a black queer man.  They discuss the intersectionality of being queer, black, and man and how those identities individually and together shape his life, his spiritual experiences, and his fabulosity.   This is a deep and truthful conversation highlighting a Black voice during Black History Month.

February is Black History Month.  At The Church of Fabulosity part of our beliefs is that we strive for an equitable world because we believe that all humans are created equal: all sexes, all races, all genders, all sexual orientations, all ages, and all abilities!  All means all!

So, during Black History Month we want to make sure, that as one of our guests so eloquently stated, bring Black History to the forefront of consciousness this month. With that we are lifting the voices of some of our Black community members to discuss their perspective, history, and their unique fabulosity and how as a Black human it shapes all of those aspects.

These are some inspiring, thought provoking conversations that I hope increases your perspective and understanding of the Black human experience.  I hope these also inspire you to take some time this month to dig in and purposely learn something new.  Learn Black History from Black voices from their perspective of their history throughout February and even throughout the year..

Terrence Williams is a person who truly values spiritual wellness and often looks to meditation, tarot, and other practices to remain grounded and self reflective. His hobbies include gaming, making art, and traveling this beautiful planet we call home to experience as much culture and life as possible. Professionally, Terrence makes a living as a design manager and creative storyteller currently based in Chicago, IL. He loves to concept and produce compelling and authentic brand narratives that force audiences to reconsider how they show up and give back to the world.

When talking about Netflix's The Diplomat, I mentioned that the star Rufus Sewell starred in the Amazon Prime series "Man in the High Castle." View discretion is highly warranted as it involves intense psychological and physical violence, definitely not for children or viewer with sensitivities.

Rufus Sewell was also in the film Dark City (1998) which can be rented on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV or YouTube, Vuduand Google Play Movies.

    Hey Gang!

We are finally back with a new episode!!!

We have four amazing shows to recommend!

First off is my favorite Star Wars series Andor (DISNEY+) Which is chock full of amazing acting and powerful and very realistic storylines.

Then we talk about THE PALE BLUE EYE, a film out on NETFLIX. A mystery with some horror elements.

Finally we have two otherworldly docuseries about the afterlife. First we have LIFE AND DEATH WITH TYLER HENRY on NETFLIX and then another fascinating series called Surviving Death (NETFLIX) about ghosts, reincarnation and the like.

Our Tasty-Treat-Sensation is the amazing tortilla chip by EL RANCHERO, the spiced flavor.

Sprinklez Episode 50: The Rings of Power (PRIME VIDEO); Severance (APPLE TV); Only Murders in the Building Season 2 (HULU); Frisch's Big Boy (Restaurant)

    Hey Gang!

The Rings of Power (AMAZON PRIME); A beauifully diverse cast leads an adventurous story line set in stunningly beautiful locals. This one is a breathtaking thing of beauty.  It is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and in every way fits right into that legacy, which is saying a lot from a big ole nerd like me.

Next we have Severance (APPLE TV); this one is so mysterious and thrilling, but is slow paced which can be a turn off to some, but hang in there! Christoper Walken's performance is sooo good! And KUDOS to Patricia Arquette.

But wait there's more, Only Murders in the Building  is back with Season 2 (HULU) and is just as wonderful as Season 1! Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short are incredible! Watch for a couple of famous cameos. The last episode made me laugh so hard. Enjoy!

The Tasty-Treat-Sensation is Frisch's Big Boy Restaurants! They put Cherry syrup in their cherry coke!! They have incredible onion rings and put tartar sauce on their hamburgers! Need I say more???

    Memorable Moments:

2:38  I feel like we're in a very unique time right now, where a lot of us are kind of experiencing this push and pull of like, Where do I belong? And I feel like we're in such a polarizing world in so many different ways. But one of the ways is, especially as ambitious people, ambitious women, we're feeling like we have to pick between hustle culture; this idea, this notion of like “work harder, do more, just keep going” and the other idea, the other side of the coin is the manifesting, like, you know, just hold this vision and speak it out and it'll happen. And I feel like I live in this gray area in so many places in my life, but specifically in how can we hold these visions of what we really deeply desire for our life but also, how can we take even micro action towards them?

5:03 I think that there are, a lot of times, two different people: there's the "jump and then the net will appear" and then there's the people that are like, "I'm gonna weave this net so that I know with security and safety, I can make the leap."

5:44 But for me, sometimes learning what I don't want or what I will not take or what I don't feel is in alignment with me is a better indicator of how I can start moving in the right direction.

5:57 I felt like I was riding two Clydesdales going in opposite directions because the life I was living did not showcase what I really wanted, what my values were, what I was heading towards. And in order to figure out how to jump from one horse to the other, I had to just take these micro actions and start working towards that vision of something else.

7:45 I know so many people who start the degree for the dream job and halfway through the degree, they know that they don't want that job anymore. But they feel like they've already spent two years, why would they waste that? And it's like, Wait, we're wasting our future, knowing we're moving in a direction that's not going to serve us? And so for me, what's been so fascinating is working through this process of figuring out who am I? But not just who am I today, but who do I want to become? And I think a lot of times we put so much pressure on like, what sounds impressive, what sounds good, instead of saying what feels good in my life, how do I want to feel?

8:58 Our identities aren't fixed. We are constantly changing and growing and evolving. And I want us to continue becoming.

9:13  And a changed mind, I think, is like one of the most beautiful things that we can gift ourselves and in doing that, invite other people to maybe consider different things so that we can continue changing our identities, as we should as students in this thing called Life School and as people who can have their mind changed and become something different.

11:18 Being a mom to a toddler, I've learned that you can tell a kid a stove is hot, but sometimes they need to touch it to experience it. And I think that a lot of people are that way; they have to experience something to really know that they don't want to do that again. But I think that the way that we are perpetuating this hustle mentality, it is only going to lead us there. And we have become people who have tuned out those check engine lights so long that something has to suffer for us to wake up to the fact that we're not doing something that's sustainable, whether it's relational or health-related.

12:20 One of the things that I think is really important, is to talk about boundaries. I feel like balance was the word for a long time. And I feel like boundaries is the new word.

12:53 But boundaries, to me, have been my saving grace. They have been the thing that has kept me in my life...And so, when we think about burnout, what I want to come coupling alongside of that is boundaries, and how can we invite them into our lives, to really preserve our lives so that the lives that we're living feel good, but that we're enjoying them that we're not faking to enjoy them, or that we're not spending the whole journey in pursuit of the thing, missing the point.

17:45 Strategy can get you really far. But when you really start to invest in who you are and who you're becoming, as a human being, that's when things really skyrocket.

18:08 If you don't have community in that way, find ways to invite it because it can be a really lonely journey, no matter what you're doing, when you don't have somebody who's in that similar life stage.

Secondly, I heard a review of HBO's Somebody Somewhere, on NPR and started watching it and immediately fell in love with this dramedy (I hate that word). It is funny but oh so real. You will laugh-out-loud and cry at the same time.

Downton Abby fans rejoice with Julian Fellowes new work: The Gilded Age (HBO MAX). Glamorous and soapy, what's not to love?!

This week's tasty-treat-sensation is the new Coca-Cola with Coffee, its addictive and delicious but not overly caffeinated, try the Vanilla flavored one!

I also give a guilty pleasure shout out to Shipwrecked (à la pretty people survivor) on HULU and Singletown (Young, pretty, British-couple reality drama) in HBO MAX.

    Howdy gang!

In today's episode we have two incredible streaming show recommendations.

Be prepared for NETFLIX's latest psychological thriller, Behind Her Eyes. Which stars Bono's daughter Eve Hewson in a mysterious thriller that will keep you on your toes! (Adult content, sexual scenes, partial nudity, substance use and violence).

Then we talk about DISNEY's incredible, WandaVision. Yes, it is a show about superheroes, but don't let that scare you away. It is one of the more original shows I have seen in a long time. The first three episodes will leave you confused but hang in there! Staring Elizabeth Olsen, Kat Dennings and Kathryn Hahn. (Comic book style violence)

Our Tasty-Treat-Sensation is Entenmann's Party Mini Rich Frosted Donuts which are as delectable as they sound.

    ENJOY!

S2E2: Frankie and Freddie Froggie's Fabulous Ferry

S2E2: Frankie and Freddie Froggie's Fabulous Ferry

Hi, I’m Darcie T. Kelly and this is Story Time with Darcie! In every episode, you hear a piece of my own short fiction. I’m an eclectic writer, so you may be surprised by the genres and situations, but what these stories have in common is their exploration of big ideas.

In February last year, we read Heart DisEase as Valentine’s Day called for a romance, but more importantly in honour of Organ Donation Month. If you haven’t signed your donor card, please, consider doing so today and while you’re at it, schedule a blood donation appointment. The past year has shown how inter-woven we are as a human species. Instead of spreading fear and disease, let’s spread love and health.

This February, I’ve chosen to look at love in a different way, with the fable Frankie and Freddie Froggie’s Fabulous Ferry.

Please join me in welcoming our three guest voices today. Allison Moro is a listener turned guest! She loves teaching and public speaking, and I was delighted when she reached out with interest in becoming a voice on the pod! Desmond Branscombe also joins us today. The Branscombe name should be familiar now as Desmond is the forth kid by that name to lend his voice to one of my stories. I love my nieces and nephews! Our final guest today is the always wonderful Nikolas Yuen who takes on not one, but two character voices. If you’re a new listener, Nik is a regular guest voice here. Check out October 2020’s Diary of a Deadman or last month’s The Value of a Journey to hear more of his work.

The only content warning today is some poorly performed tongue twisters. I hope you find my stumbles trigger nothing more than light mirth.

Frankie and Freddie Froggie’s Fabulous Ferry is the first fable I’ve written. The challenge it was written for assigned a comedy and after a few false starts, this fable is what came out. I enjoyed the freedom to build exaggerated characters to tell the story. Which character did you most relate to?

I hope you enjoyed this episode of Story Time with Darcie. If you have, please, help me keep the podcast going by sharing it! Leave a five-star rating on Apple podcasts, write a review, or give us a shout out on social media to help more people find us. If a friend is looking for something new to listen to, suggest Story Time with Darcie. If an episode make you think of someone in particular, send it their way! Every time you share it makes a difference!

Thank you, Allison, Desmond, and Nikolas for joining me today!

If you, dear listener, would like to become a voice on Story Time with Darcie, please, reach out! My eclectic stories need a variety of voices, and yours will be a welcome addition!

Thank you for listening. To read more of my stories and perhaps inspire my next one, check out my website: www.darcietkelly.me and join me on facebook @DarcieTKelly. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy of Musings: A Collection of Short Stories, get in touch through the facebook page or email me (you can find my email address in the episode notes). And please, subscribe on your podcatcher of choice for future episodes of Story Time With Darcie

Until next month, stay well, and keep smiling.

Hey Gang! I am back after a battle with Covid. I was so lucky that it was a mild case. Please stay safe out there! While in quarantine I watched a ton of shows, several of which I am recommending in today's episode.

First off, I am going to be talking about the new Discovery+ streaming service app that has a ton of shows from HGTV, Lifetime, TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel and so many more.  It's chock full of great shows!!! Especially, Frozen in Time (HGTV, Discovery+ Original), and A Very Brady Renovation (HGTV).

Then I remind you that Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is simply one of the best tv shows EVER and it's back with season 2 on NBC and HULU!!!

The Tasty-Treat-Sensation of the week is Boulder Canyon's Olive Oil Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper chips! They are amaaaaazzzzing!!!!

Sprinklez Episode 43: Musicals Recommendation Episode: Encorce (DISNEY +); Jingle Jangle (NETFLIX); Tasty-Treat-Sensation: McDonald's: Holiday Pie!!!

Sprinklez Episode 43: Musicals Recommendation Episode: Encorce (DISNEY +); Jingle Jangle (NETFLIX); Tasty-Treat-Sensation: McDonald's: Holiday Pie!!!

Howdy gang! Today is a musical themed episode!

First, I recommend The amazing series Encorce (DISNEY +) This is an incredibly heart-warming, endearing show, where they bring back the cast of various high school musicals across the country. They had high school submit plays they performed at some point in the past 30 years, and the cast of those productions get back together to put on the same play all these years later. A scream and such fun. Tear jerking reunions and life changing healing events occur in nearly every episode. It's a true winner.

Then the new holiday musical classic, Jingle Jangle (NETFLIX).With an amazing cast (Phylicia Rashad, Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Lisa Davina Phillip). Cute story mixed with catchy tunes and you have a family holiday classic waiting for you!

This episode's Tasty-Treat-Sensation is McDonald's amazing Holiday Pie! (Think warm vanilla pudding pie!!!!)

    Tangents:

The Good Place. (NETFLIX) Hilarious sitcom with Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, Maya Rudolph! Give it six episodes, It's odd and you won't love it until you get what's really going on. HANG IN THERE!

Hot Chocolate Nutcracker (NETFLIX). Debbie Allen's dance academy's annual production of Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.
