#326: How to Lead When Busy, Scaling, or Failing with Matt Lesser

A familiar face on Lanci's other podcast series is here!

This discussion with Matt Lesser includes:

    • Lessons from working with leaders on every continent
    • What its like growing up in a household of entrepreneurs
    • From creating business and private equity to finding passion as an entrepreneur
    • Integrating pillars of leadership

Meet Matt: I grew up in a small, lake community in northeast Indiana. We moved there because my dad had an opportunity to buy into a wholesale oil distributorship.

Growing up in a town of 700, living with a family business, and attending a small, Christian school (my graduating class had 7) gave me a very narrow, sheltered view of life. After graduating after my Junior year, I jumped into Indiana University where I quickly realized how sheltered my life had been!

Thinking I would pursue a Master's, my career took an unexpected turn. Instead of resigning, which I attempted, my dad left...and turned the business over to me. Thinking I could do anything because I was 25, arrogant, and prideful, I was about to experience reality. Within months, the business failed, and I went through a dark, suicidal depression. Nearly a year later, a new business was born from the ashes, and nearly 12 years later that business was sold.

I then spent 12 years in private equity. It was during my years running the family business and in private equity that I grew passionate about leadership--healthy, flourishing leadership.

Over the last 25 years, I trained, facilitated, coached, and led leaders, leadership teams, and boards all over the world. I wanted each leader to become the best possible version of themselves so they would do the same for the team members and organizations they led. I picked up training and certifications in nearly 20 leadership, personality, and team-building assessments, and I also picked up an MBA along the way.

In 2021, I finally jumped "all in" into my own business, after being told by many whom I had worked with over the years that I needed to do this. Little did they know, I had actually felt a tug on my heart--a calling--to speak, train, and facilitate when I was a teenager.

Let's find out in this episode with host, Anshuma Kshetrapal. 108 Finding Peace in Your Week by Theming Your Days with Carol Clegg

108 Finding Peace in Your Week by Theming Your Days with Carol Clegg

Today we are focusing on finding peace in your week by theming your days.

Before we get into theming your days for a more peaceful week I wanted to share a coach training programme that I am currently wrapping up and to let you know that there is an opportunity for coaches to sign up for the April cohort.  The link will be in the show notes. This certainly is an incredible opportunity and I encourage you to see if you are eligible and apply for the grant,

Positive Intelligence is the framework taught by Shirzad Chamine and in the grant programme you are able to explore in great depth and detail what this framework is first for yourself, and then if you wish to continue, there is more learning available about the model to bring this into your coaching practice.

What benefits can you expect when you theme your week?

    • Boost productivity
    • Improve focus
    • Reduce stress
    • It helps you work on-purpose, and avoid working by accident, perhaps reacting to other people's agenda.
    • Promotes a better business and life balance
    • Another great benefit of a themed week is that it can help you to grow your business. As you accomplish things, it will free up your time so you can spend working on your business, ie coaching your clients !

5 simple steps to batch your days

    1. Make a list of tasks that need to be done at least weekly.

    2. Group them together into categories or themes that make sense to you.

    3. Assign each category a dedicated day of the week.

    4. Try out your schedule.

    5. Assess and tweak as necessary.

BEST MOMENTS: Facilitation and Leadership in Agile with Joe Ziadeh

Today, we feature the most impactful, thought-provoking, and actionable tips from our conversation with Joe Ziadeh, the Chief Story Teller and Innovation Artist at Balanced Agility. He shares how to facilitate team retrospectives by creating trust within the team first and using games and improv to actually brainstorm. These games can be used to overcome power plays in a team and create a space where it is safe to address problems and find solutions for them.

Understanding Organizational Enablement for Instructional Designers with Mike Simmons

Understanding Organizational Enablement for Instructional Designers with Mike Simmons

The Organization Enablement movement is coming. But what is it? And how does this impact our role in corporate training learning and development?

Since corporate culture starts at the top, here's a few questions to ask yourself.

How are you facilitating growth in your organization? Do you define growth based on revenue? Or maybe it's based on the number of people in your organization.

What if you defined it based on how your people are growing? Growth in fulfillment. Growth in satisfaction. Growth in impact.

And what if you could enable, facilitate, create, and develop this growth?

Mike Simmons joins us to answer these questions and help your organization make the transition. He will help us understand how organization enablement happens at the intersection of people, process, and technology. With a design oriented, customer driven approach, you can align process tools, so that your team thrives, customers thrive, and your business thrives.

    Facilitating Change! Your turn!

    Facilitating Change! Your turn!

Suffering and not having a good time is a point-of-view that’s been handed to us by society and the world around us, but that doesn’t have to be our reality. We have the ability to facilitate our lives and create what’s true for you and no one else.

Listen to Susanna explore living in your true reality and facilitating change. She questions our possibilities, the ways we function, and our perspectives. Are you willing to change in order to have the life that’s best for you?

    On today’s podcast:

    • Is this really the way life has to be, or is there a different possibility?
    • Is what you’re living with heavy or light?
    • What if you facilitate yourself to find out what’s true for you?
    • Is this really your way of functioning or is this where you are training to other people’s ways of functioning?
    • How would you like to create your life?
    • How much more space, freedom, and possibilities would occur and you would facilitate with that different perspective?
