    Guest Bio:
    Alan Kolok, Professor of Ecotoxicology, has an undergraduate degree from Miami University, and advanced degrees from the University of Washington the University of Colorado.  As an academic scientist, he currently holds positions at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Idaho. He has published over 95 peer-reviewed articles and two books, including Modern Poisons: A Brief Introduction to Contemporary Toxicology, and Twist, a science fiction novel that focuses on self-replicating prions that have gone terribly wrong. He is in the process of writing his third book, Generally Regarded as Safe: A Century of Synthetic Chemicals.

    Guest Bio:
    Dr. Prager is a marine scientist and author, widely recognized for her expertise and ability to make science entertaining and understandable for people of all ages. She currently works as a freelance writer, consultant, and Chief Scientist for StormCenter Communications, Inc. She was previously the science advisor for Celebrity Cruises in the Galapagos Islands, Chief Scientist for the Aquarius Reef Base program in Key Largo, FL, which includes the world’s only undersea research station, and at one time the Assistant Dean at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Dr. Prager has built a national reputation as a scientist and spokesperson for the earth and ocean sciences and is a sought-after speaker for public-oriented events. She has appeared on The Today Show and NBC News, Good Morning America, CNN, Fox News, CBS Early Show, The Weather Channel, in shows for the Discovery Channel and was a consultant for the Disney movie, Moana. 

    Dr. Prager has participated in research expeditions to places such as the Galapagos Islands, Papua New Guinea, Caribbean, Bahamas, and the deep waters of the Florida Reef tract. She obtained a BA from Wesleyan University, Connecticut, a MS from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, and in 1992, a PhD from Louisiana State University.

    Trent Romer is an author of two sustainability books, TEDx speaker and sustainability consultant.  He began his career 30 years ago and was the 3rd generation co-owner of his family’s business Clear View Bag Co., Inc founded in 1961 by his grandfather. Trent continues working for Clear View and serves as a sustainability operating partner for the private equity firm focused on environmental, social and governance issues within portfolio companies.

    Lori is the Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Technology and Partnerships for NatureServe, the authoritative source for biodiversity data in North America. She oversees NatureServe’s technology team, with a portfolio that includes software product development, server administration, and user support for mission critical enterprise information management and delivery systems. Since joining NatureServe in 2000, Lori has led the successful transformation of the organization’s core biodiversity data platform Biotics 5 and its public information delivery platform NatureServe Explorer. Lori’s team supports NatureServe’s North American network of biodiversity information centers with implementation of sophisticated online tools to automate environmental review and to manage and direct treatment for invasive species in their jurisdictions. Her team was recognized with the IDG CIO 100 Award in 2016 and the Computerworld Premier 100 Technology Leaders Award in 2017.

    Lori’s work experience includes 10 years serving Lockheed Martin Corporation in the field of software integration and information systems development. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Bucknell University in her home state of Pennsylvania. She lives in Arlington, Virginia and enjoys hiking, traveling, and cooking – and she makes a wicked good peach pie!

    Thomas RaShad Easley, Ed.D., is the child of civil rights activists that protested in the children’s march in 1963 at the height of the Civil Right movement and integrated an all-white school in Toledo, Ohio. Assistant Dean of Community and Inclusion at the School of the Environment at Yale University (the first school of forestry, 1900). Dr. Easley has attended Alabama A&M University (B.S.), Iowa State University (M.S.), and North Carolina State University (Ed.D.) Dr. Easley has backgrounds in forestry, genetics, and adult education. 

    Dr. Easley is a certified diversity, equity and inclusion consultant that works with academic institutions, corporate entities, and other organizations to help them actualize a strong diversity initiative that welcomes everyone and shifts work culture to be equitable. 

    Dr. Easley is a musical artist, professor, Eagle Scout, and a former campus pastor. He intentionally merges conscious lyrics, ecumenical spirituality, land stewardship, education, diversity/equity/inclusion principles and entrepreneurial thinking in his lectures, workshops and presentations.

    Tiff Duong: Story Design and Producer

    Tiff is the story designer and producer of Found in the Fjords, is an explorer and storyteller. Inspired by an epic dive trip, she left corporate law to campaign for our planet. She now writes, speaks and leads from dense jungles to remote oceans to the changing Arctic. Tiff gives voice to what's happening in the natural world in order to inspire meaningful action and lasting change.

    Aya Walraven: Technical Director and Sound Design

    Aya is the technical director, web3 developer and sound producer for Found in the Fjords. Her background is in emerging tech, such as augmented reality, video streaming, web3 platforms and data analysis. Outside of her work, she is an avid freediver, and has a strong interest in the history of the ocean’s relationship to food and culture, as well as sustainable harvesting.

    Christopher Maupin  Maupin was born in Sarasota, FL.  He has earned numerous degrees including BS at Eckerd College (chemistry and marine science), MS at USF College of Marine Science (chemical oceanography), PhD at University of Texas at Austin.  He is now an Associate Research scientist at Texas A&M University and co-director of the Stable Isotope Geosciences Facility. Chris has done fieldwork in caves and coral reefs and around the world, and severe convective storms in the US.

    Spencer Tassone is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Tech. Spencer's research examines disturbances, extreme events, and long-term changes in freshwater and coastal marine ecosystems. Along with publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, his research has been featured across numerous media outlets including Fox Weather, Utah Public Radio, Science News Magazine, and the Chesapeake Bay Journal. Spencer has also used his research to help inform public policy by partnering with the Chesapeake Bay Program on a Science and Technical Advisory Committee. This committee focused on examining the ecological implications of rising water temperatures and developing management strategies to address these challenges. Spencer's research has provided valuable insights that inform evidence-based decision-making and contribute to the understanding and preservation of U.S. waterways.

    Guest Bio:
    Edward (Ted) Boling served as the country’s top National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) attorney as an associate director at the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) in the Executive Office of the President. Ted served at CEQ, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Democratic and Republican administrations. His experience includes deep involvement in federal infrastructure permitting issues and the first comprehensive revision of CEQ’s NEPA regulations in 40 years.

    Drawing on over 30 years of high-level public service, Ted currently advises leaders on transportation and energy development projects, agencies that must hire outside counsel, and the environmental professionals that support them on the development of renewable energy, resource development, transportation, and infrastructure. 

    Ted’s extensive government experience at CEQ included the development of the National Ocean Policy, CEQ’s climate change guidance, and the regulatory response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster. He drafted NEPA guidance on mitigation and monitoring, cumulative impacts analysis, and the development categorical exclusions from detailed NEPA documentation. Ted advised the White House on the establishment of numerous national monuments and also assisted in briefing three U.S. Supreme Court cases.

    At DOI, Ted handled matters involving energy development on the outer continental shelf, including offshore wind power development, and the fast track for solar and wind energy projects on public lands. He has provided legal and policy advice on environmental issues concerning the Federal Columbia River Power System and the California Central Valley Project.  At DOJ, early in his career, Ted litigated significant cases involving NEPA, endangered species, marine mammals, wetland protections, and management of public lands.

    Amanda Dwyer currently serves as the Sales and Business Development Manager for Westervelt Ecological Service’s Western Region Office. In this position, Amanda coordinates with a variety of clients to identify their mitigation needs and possible solutions to ensure their projects are completed in a cost-effective and timely manner. Prior to joining Westervelt Ecological Services, Amanda worked at the California Department of Water Resources doing environmental permit compliance for salmonid restoration projects in conjunction with water infrastructure improvements for California’s State Water Project. Amanda received her bachelor’s degree in 2014 from the University of California, Davis, in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning.

    Dayna Winchell is a Conservation Planner/Project Manager with Westervelt Ecological Services. As a conservation planner Dayna prepares the mitigation documents and coordinates with the regulatory agencies to get approval of the mitigation and conservation sites. Before working at Westervelt, Dayna worked as a biologist for various environmental consulting firms where she completed species habitat assessments and wetland delineations. She has a master’s in Conservation Biology from the University of Queensland and currently resides in Sacramento, CA.

    Ron Holcomb worked as a spill responder for the Washington State Department of Ecology before retiring in 2020 after a 40-year public service career dedicated to protecting the environment. He was the Spill Team Lead for Ecology’s Southwest Region and personally handled more than 6,000 oil and hazardous material spill incidents. Prior to being a spill responder, he was a public information officer for Ecology and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He received a Master of Science in Environmental Communications from the University of Wisconsin after graduating with a degree in Journalism, Biology and Natural Resources from Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif. He developed his love of the outdoors and concern for the environment during childhood experiences in national parks and forests, and as a member of The Mountaineers. In retirement he still enjoys climbing peaks in the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.

    Anita Raman is a Research & Policy Development Associate at Cornell University’s ILR School Climate Jobs Institute.

    Raman studies the labor implications of climate change, advancing knowledge and policies that help unions engage in public climate debates and advocate for a just worker transition. Raman’s cutting-edge research advances climate jobs campaigns and supports eight states’ high-road climate labor policy development. Raman is a 2022 Public Voices Fellow on the Climate Crisis with the OpEd Project in partnership with Yale University, and her op-eds on climate jobs have been published in CrainsNY, The Buffalo News, Newsday, the NY Daily News, and more.

    Before joining Cornell ILR, Raman implemented climate adaptation projects in the Global South at UNDP and published reports analyzing national climate plans and global agreements at the U.N. Secretariat. Raman also managed data and reporting for a NYS program that helped low-and-middle-income families migrate away from climate coastline hazards after Hurricane Sandy.

    Raman received her M.A. in Climate and Society from Columbia University and her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
