EP:97 Those Who Serve with Producer Jeff Werner

EP:97 Those Who Serve with Producer Jeff Werner

Today's chat with Jeff Werner, producer and director, Suzi spotlights the plight of Veterans struggling with PTSD upon their return to civilian life. "Those Who Serve" Jeff's evocative film, serves as the backdrop for a critical exploration of the legal system's interaction with these battle-scarred warriors. Through stories of Marine veterans and their families, we dissect the pressing need for legal reforms and the societal support crucial for their reintegration.

Closing on a note that resonates with our collective conscience, we address the importance of communal support for our Veterans. We envision a future where transition programs mirror the rigor of military training and where the art of storytelling in film becomes a vessel for change.

Are All Christmas Movies Really About Jesus? (Special Podcast Highlight)

Are All Christmas Movies Really About Jesus? (Special Podcast Highlight)

There's nothing better than watching your favorite Christmas movie as you cozy up by the fire and drink hot cocoa!

🤔 What's your favorite Christmas movie? Do you see any hidden religious themes in it? 🌟🎬🎉

Cale Clarke, with insights from authors Peter Dre and Matt Lillicrap, suggests that these festive films are more than just seasonal entertainment. They embody deep religious and moral themes.

🌟 The Magical Element: Not Just for Fun! These films are not merely about holiday cheer or magic; they serve as vehicles for profound transformation. From the heartwarming change in Buddy the Elf in "Elf" to the touching story of Scrooge's redemption in "A Christmas Carol", each film encapsulates a journey of personal growth and enlightenment.

🎁 Voyage and Return & Rebirth Themes: Cale Clarke highlights two prevalent themes in Christmas movies: the 'voyage and return' and 'rebirth'. The former, seen in movies like "It's a Wonderful Life", shows characters returning to their familiar world but with renewed perspectives. The latter, epitomized by Scrooge's story, depicts profound personal transformation.

🌠 Every Story Points Towards Jesus: Cale suggests that every Christmas story, in some way, points towards Jesus Christ. The inherent meaning in these narratives reflects the truth that God has imbued creation with purpose and meaning.

🎬 Cale reveals that Christmas movies, whether intentionally or not, often mirror profound Christian themes. These films, from their magical elements to their transformative narratives, serve not just as entertainment but as reflections of deeper spiritual truths, ultimately pointing us back to the essence of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ.

So whatever films you watch this Christmas season, don't forget to look for God's handprints in them!

    Consent

    Consent

In this episode, Max and Kelley discuss the importance of having consent from your acting partner before doing a romantic scene or a fight sequence. Too often actors might feel pushed into doing something that they are not comfortable in doing. If you don't  have the experience to see if something doesn't pass the smell test, it can be daunting and you can be told you're not being a team player or helping the project.
Max takes a few examples on his own career as caustionary tells. We discuss the importance of advocating for yourself.

We do discuss how actors can unfortunately get caught up in being coerced into doing pornography when they think they're working on a legitmate project. Max also talks about the nonprofit Fight the New Drug which tries to confront the porn industry and the effect it has on both the people who have left the industry and those who watch the harmful videos.

Would you want to meet up with the guys that peaked in high school floor hockey at the Puck’s, the local bar and sports entertainment?

We have plenty of D2: The Mighty Ducks and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story  references in this episode as well as our presenter looking like The Excellence of Execution,  Bret "The Hitman" Hart
