Classic Stallone Films: A Brit Reacts
First Blood
1982 season continues as Joel and Chris put John Carpenter's The Thing into First Blood!
It's the second part of our Stallone mini-mini-series as we look at the surprisingly low-key first Rambo film and ask the question: masculinity?
Chris is terrified by Australia, Joel does much less Stallone impressions than last time, and we start to put together our pitch for a 'The Thing' cinematic universe. Thingiverse?

First Blood (Ya know, Rambo)
No Rambo 1, just First Blood. The character really changed between this and Last Blood

First Blood (1982); with Alice Lam!
A film where a Vietnam veteran freaks out after being denied some breakfast. Kyle knows he wouldn't be able to kill a pig. Dave would just lie face down and hope for the best. The Machine is taking notes on how to make booby traps. Alice Lam joins the conversation to admire Stallone's wardrobe.

First Blood (Ted Kotcheff, 1982)
117 - May Madness continues with the film that launched a bunch of seemingly unrelated and confusingly titled sequels - First Blood. This is the go to movie for anyone that rushes to the defence of Stallone's acting ability, and they wouldn't be wrong. This film plays to all of his strengths. It's one of those rare films that is so different to the broader franchise it's a part of, that it's always worth a second look. So join us as we break this thing down from its humble origins, to rewrites upon rewrites, to the legacy it created and ultimately, how it holds up today.
