    151. 24-hour sales challenge

    151. 24-hour sales challenge

I've never done an episode like this before, but I'm excited to hear your results from joining in! I have a 24-hour sales challenge for you, with 7 strategies that work well for me to generate sales during the slower times.

Strategy #1: check your inbox. This might mean your email inbox or maybe it's your 17hats / CRM system. Look for those jobs where you were communicating with a customer and things kind of fizzled out for one reason or another.

Strategy #2: check your calendar to see what you were working on this time last year. I love doing a calendar audit to steadily keep jobs coming my way and to make sure the annual jobs get rebooked.

Strategy #3: dig for your pumpkins. Yes, I'm talking about the Pumpkin Plan again! In this strategy, I want you to dig through your data to find your top customers so that you can give them your best energy and attention, and be ready and willing to help them with their next event.

Strategy #4: send a newsletter. I'm a big believer in email marketing and feel like I make a sale every time I send a newsletter! It doesn't have to be fancy... in fact, I think the more personal, the better. More on this in a future episode, but I'm almost certain I booked my biggest job ever because of a newsletter.

Strategy #5: send cold emails or DMs. This one is scary for me, but Rachel of How About Balloons gave a lot of great tips on how to do this in Episode 137.

Strategy #6: post on social. And don't forget... post the things that you actually want to sell. We always want to share our most impressive work, but a lot of the time that work was actually pretty difficult to accomplish so it's not always a good idea to encourage more people to book similar jobs with you.

Strategy #7: do some cash and carry options. This is a sales strategy in reverse... first you make the thing, and then you sell it. The idea is that you are making things incredibly convenient for the customer while also using up older inventory items.

I hope this episode gives you a little boost in your sales... today! If you close a sale thanks to one of these strategies PLEASE send me a message so that I can celebrate with you!!

#51 | Katie Boyce How to add a Lead Magnet to your Marketing Strategy

Great marketing should make our consumers feel like they WANT to open that email and look at the blog post or podcast. We have all had those moments where marketing may have put us off because it was a little “icky” or overly done but today’s guest Katie Boyce is going to help us with copywriting and brand messaging that feels just right!

    In this episode, we discuss

👉  What a lead magnet is, why they are important, and how to decide that you need one (hint: we all do!).

👉  What type of lead magnet attracts the right client, what can set you apart and what really makes a good lead magnet.

👉 What comes after you create the lead magnet from putting it all together, the tech side, the nurture sequence, and all that comes along with having a successful lead magnet. She shares how the days after they are delivered the lead magnet are really key in conversions.

👉 Email service providers and tech tools you can use to build your welcome sequences and how to keep moving forward even if this part is intimidating for you!

👉 What emails should be included in a welcome sequence and how to build out an email sequence that will keep your subscribers interested and engaged.

👉 When it may be best to hire a copywriter and how a copywriter can help you really nail down your brand messaging to attract the clients you really want.

Ep 76 Pros and Cons of Hiring and Working For Family

Ep 76 Pros and Cons of Hiring and Working For Family
As promised, we're revisiting the topic "Doing Business With Family" addressed in Episode 66 of our Don't Call It Small...Business podcast. In Episode 76, we're looking at the pros and cons of hiring and working for family. In Episode 66 we looked at the customer-seller perspective. In Episode 76 we're looking at hiring a family member to work for you or choosing your family member's business as a place of employment over others. Should you hire your family member? Should you work for a family member? We examine if, when, why, and how to hire children to work in the family business. We share examples such as Jamie Trowbridge, the CEO of Yankee Publishing in Dublin, NH, a family-owned business launched by his grandfather in 1935, and recently realigned as an employee-owned business in 2019. We explore pieces of Jamie and his family's story, and tie-in the pros and cons that we all must consider. There are some amazing benefits to being part of a family business, but you have to create the infrastructure and culture that properly supports and respects the family and the business. This episode outlines some of the necessities and helps address the issues and concerns of many of the stakeholders impacted by this work arrangement.
