Want to Make Your Adult Child Listen to You? With Author Jim Burns

Want to Make Your Adult Child Listen to You? With Author Jim Burns

When it comes to making our adult children listen to us and helping them step into who God created them to be, we have to recognize we are fighting a spiritual war for our child. However, we are not at war with our child, we are at war with the darkness that is in the world today. That is why I am so excited to talk to best-selling author Jim Burns on this episode of the Warfare Parenting Podcast.

Jim shares that over 65% of children who graduate highschool walk away from their faith, and talks about what parents need to do in that period of their child's life to help them find their way back to God. Jim stresses the importance of a resource like my book, The Parent's Battle Plan: Warfare Strategies to Win Back Your Prodigal, to give parents strategies and hope to impliment in their lives to win their child back.

You can order your copy of my new book, The Parent's Battle Plan: Warfare Strategies to Win Back Your Prodigal, at the link here: https://www.amazon.com/Parents-Battle-Plan-Strategies-Prodigal/dp/0800762843

Things We Talk About in this Episode:

    • Why is it imporant to recognize that this is not just a cultural battle for our children, but a full-on spiritual war?
    • How often do we see victory in that spiritual warfare? Why is it imporant to see the hope of that victory when we are fighting?
    • What makes The Parent's Battle Plan: Warfare Strategies to Win Back Your Prodigal such a powerful, potent resource and how can it help bring our children back to God?

Letting Go of Bitterness After an Affair Ended Her Marriage with Kirby King

Letting Go of Bitterness After an Affair Ended Her Marriage with Kirby King

In today's episode Kirby King shares the difficult story of finding out about her husband's six-month long affair when she'd been married 34 years. Kirby decided to forgive him and hold onto her marriage, but after he kept going back to his mistress time and again she knew she could no longer be the peace keeper. Even though Kirby did everything she could to make her marriage work, it didn't turn out the way she wanted. But she shares how God is writing a new story for her and how she was able to let go of the bitterness toward her ex-husband. She also talks about her third child being born with Down Syndrome and her struggle coming to grips with that and how her now 29 year-old Down Syndrome son is about to be married. Such an exciting story! Kirby is an optimist and her passion in life is to teach people how to run to Jesus. You will walk away from this conversation encouraged in whatever situation you may be facing today.

I'm so humbled by their willingness to share the hard story of Lavonna's loss of her parents and only sibling to cancer, their years dealing with 13 miscarriages and their painful struggle through Donavan's alcohol abuse. The Importance of Strong Friendships with Julie Bagwell and Frieda Younts

The Importance of Strong Friendships with Julie Bagwell and Frieda Younts

My guests for this first podcast episode are my two very best friends, Julie Bagwell and Frieda Younts. We’ve been friends for 26 years! Over time we’ve experienced lots of ups and downs but have remained close through it all. How did we do it? By being honest and real with each other, for one thing, but mostly by building our friendship on the foundation of Jesus Christ.

Growing up I only had one friend at a time and always felt like I never belonged. In my late 20’s I began praying for God to bring some good friends into my life and He was faithful to do just that through Julie and Frieda.

Each of us has been married for at least 30 years and have grown children, so we have lots of experience under our belt—some good and some bad. But we’ve held onto each other through it all and are grateful God has helped our friendship to remain strong.

In this episode we talk about how hurts and jealousy, especially in a group with three friends, can be easy to fall into. But instead of letting them fester we bring it out in the open and talk about these things in the spirit of love. A friendship is work, but it’s so worth the reward.

Our desire is to help other women experience friendship like we have, because good, godly friends can have an amazing impact on your life. But in order to make it work we must be intentional. Listen in as we discuss simple and practical ways we learned to grow and sustain our friendship.
