The Winter of Folk Horror: Witchy Winter Wonderland (Burn Witch Burn, Summer of Fear, The Devonsville Terror)

The Winter of Folk Horror: Witchy Winter Wonderland (Burn Witch Burn, Summer of Fear, The Devonsville Terror)

The Winter of Folk Horror is not yet ready to let 2024 go. Cozy up with the comfort of witches, as we discuss three very different witch movies. Dueling witches, a witchy cousin, and a town filled with bigots. Welcome to the Witchy Winter Wonderland!

When a skeptical college professor demands his wife stop practicing protective conjure magic, he opens himself up to be the victim of an opposing force in Burn, Witch, Burn (1962)! A young woman loses her parents in a deadly crash, moves in with her cousin, Linda Blair, and proceeds to ruin her life, in the Wes Craven TV movie, Summer of Fear (1978)! And then from there, the residents of a small town believe that three new arrivals are reincarnations of witches that invoked a 300-year-old curse in The Devonsville Terror (1983)!

Santa's Slay (2005): "ChestNUTS and Jingle BALLS"

Santa's Slay (2005): "ChestNUTS and Jingle BALLS"

If what you wanted for Christmas was a whole bunch of jokes about male genitalia, well, you must've been a very good little Spooky this year! For our latest installment of B-cember — and our last episode of Spooky Tuesday until 2024 — we decided to spice up the season with Santa's Slay (2005), a holiday horror featuring wrestling star Goldberg as Jolly Old Saint Nick. Take a look under the tree and you'll find a flick full of all three grindhouse Gs, enough innuendo to kill a flying bison, and more than a few familiar faces. There's no better way to celebrate, so join us as we close out the year with a Father Christmas who could clothesline Mannheim and his signature Steamroller move with ease.

AG-AFTRA greenlights historic contract addressing pay, AI, and safety

AG-AFTRA greenlights historic contract addressing pay, AI, and safety
SAG-AFTRA has overwhelmingly approved a groundbreaking three-year contract with the AMPTP, securing substantial pay and residual increases, safeguards against AI exploitation, and enhanced industry safety. The 78.33% approval signals progress, though some members disagreed about AI provisions. Valued at over one billion dollars, the deal includes sustained minimum wage hikes through 2026, transparent streaming viewership data requirements, and improved measures against sexual harassment. The agreement's ratification, with a 38.15% turnout, signifies a positive turn for the industry, ushering in a return to full-scale productions. While addressing AI concerns, the contract ensures clear consent and compensation for the digital recreation of actors' likenesses. Despite some reservations, the overall approval positions the deal as a groundbreaking achievement, according to SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher. As Hollywood resumes operations, ongoing discussions on AI and potential industry challenges remain.

Sharing Adventures, Generational Differences and the SAG Strike is Over!

Sharing Adventures, Generational Differences and the SAG Strike is Over!

In this episode, we express our gratitude to Fran Dresser, the president of SAG AFTRA, for her brilliant leadership during this period and rejoice in the fact that the strike is finally over! We also share updates about our weeks, from Cynthia's bustling schedule at the hospital due to an influx of new COVID and flu cases, to Joy's delightful family visit in East Tennessee.

Here's a sneak peek: Would you dare to jump out of a plane on your 30th birthday or just for fun? Because two of us did. This episode takes you on a whirlwind of emotions as we dig into some of our most extraordinary personal experiences. We cover Cynthia's heart-loving Swimming with the Dolphins quest, Joy's parasailing escapades, Andrea and Carmen's Sky-Diving adventures... But don't worry, we're not all adrenaline junkies here. Rick's fear of water is both funny and touching... and well, we've got our fair share of laugh-out-loud moments as we poke fun at each other's stories and discuss our potential collaborations.

We also take a serious tone, but only for a moment to discuss the differences in how each generation uses the internet. Gen X, Versus Millennials and Gen Z. It's based on a blog post from last week which you can read on my personal website for more information.

So, join in for a blend of thoughtful discussions sprinkled with a hearty dose of humor and camaraderie on another fun-filled podcast of sheer joy!

Welcome to "The Bubble Chat," the podcast where we dive deep into the latest pop culture happenings and celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month throughout September.  it’s a time to honor the rich contributions, cultures, and histories of Hispanic and Latinx communities in the United States and beyond.

In this episode, we remember Steve Harwell, the iconic musician who recently passed away at the age of 56.

We also delve into the world of legislation as Senator Marsha Blackburn discusses a bill aimed at addressing compulsive internet usage in minors, with a particular focus on their search for LGBTQIA+ community information, especially transgender topics.

Our podcast wouldn't be complete without entertainment updates, and we're excited to share that Fran Drescher has been re-elected as the president of SAG-AFTRA. Plus, we'll spill the tea on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's exciting collaboration for their song "Bongos."

But that's not all! We'll also explore the world of literature with a book review of Jennette McCurdy's memoir, "I'm Glad My Mom Dad." And for all the movie buffs out there, stay tuned for our film review of the recent Barbie movie.

Join us as we celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month and keep you in the know about all things pop culture on "The Bubble Chat"!

We have another listener recommendation this week! Our friend and friend of the podcast, Geoff Gallagher, thought we might like to watch everyone's favorite 90s nanny, Fran Drescher, and Timothy Dalton in The Beautician and the Beast. We couldn't help but notice the similarities between this and some of our newer rom coms (we're looking at you The Royal Treatment...). Listen for our thoughts on this movie today!
