Plant-Based Options at Fast Food Restaurants: Not Suitable for Vegans?

Plant-Based Options at Fast Food Restaurants: Not Suitable for Vegans?

Plant-based options are exploding in such fast food restaurants as Burger King, KFC, Carl's Jr., and White Castle as well as fast casual  restaurants like Chipotle, Pizza Hut, and Panda Express. And the research shows it's leading to a reduction in the amount of purchases of animal-based meat.

Some see this as a win for animals and people, but some see it differently. Listen to this episode of Food for Thought for my take on this growing trend, and why I blame McDonald's for not graduating high school with my senior class.

LIVE TASTING - Delysia’s Taste of the South Chocolate Truffles
Ash & Boogi taste the Taste of the South truffle collection from Delysia!

    www.Delysia.com

Award-winning Delysia Chocolatier, based in Austin, Texas, announces the release of its new “Taste of the South” chocolate truffle collection for Spring 2021. The Taste of the South collection creates nostalgia with a luxurious nine-piece assortment that captures the unique flavors of a southern meal in chocolate – complete with drinks, side dishes, entrees, and dessert. Taking inspiration from beloved foods from Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, Delysia Chocolatier has assembled an assortment of flavors that conjure down-home cooking for generations of southerners. By mixing sweet, salty, and savory ingredients, the chocolatier has emulated dishes that have become classic symbols of the American South.

“I’m originally from the northeast. When I moved to the southern part of the United States, I discovered a variety of dishes which intrigued me,” said Delysia Chocolatier owner/chef, Nicole Patel. “I wanted to capture the rich array of delicious classic southern flavors in chocolate form for those who love them as much as I do. I dedicate the Taste of the South chocolate truffle collection to everyone who is craving a moment of southern bliss and something sweet.”

The Taste of the South collection is designed to resurrect sweet southern memories through chocolate. Imagine, relaxing on the front porch, the warm glow of twilight in the distance, while sipping on a spiked version of a southern classic with Delysia Chocolatier’s Sweet tea vodka chocolate truffle. The brand’s Cajun fried chicken chocolate truffle is equally nostalgic, inspired by the crisp and spicy breading on this classic southern entree, infused into creamy milk chocolate seasoned with a hint of Louisiana spices. For dessert, chocolate lovers can savor a quintessential Southern sweet in Delysia Chocolatier’s Hummingbird cake chocolate truffle. Layers of milk chocolate are melded with banana puree, spiced with cinnamon and vanilla, then studded with pineapple and pecans. This decadent truffle is topped with a layer of cream cheese white chocolate, just like the icing on the cake.

These richly layered chocolate truffles are handcrafted with the finest regional ingredients that will conjure up scenes of cicadas humming in oak trees, the ephemeral scent of honeysuckle, and the sight of fireflies illuminating warm nights. Capturing the best flavors of a region that stretches from the lush Shenandoah Mountains to the rich bayou of the Mississippi River delta and onto the red rocks of the Southwest deserts, Delysia Chocolatier’s new Taste of the South collection pays homage to the diverse culinary traditions of the South.

Delysia Chocolatier’s Taste of the South chocolate truffle collection is available now online via the chocolatier’s website and ships direct to addresses in all 50 states of the U.S.A. This uniquely Southern 9-piece chocolate truffle collection contains one of each of the following: Mint julep chocolate truffle, Sweet tea vodka chocolate truffle, Frito pie chocolate truffle, Chicken fried steak chocolate truffle, Cajun fried chicken chocolate truffle, Green chili queso chocolate truffle, Collard greens and bacon chocolate truffle, Hummingbird cake chocolate truffle, and Banana pudding chocolate truffle. Taste of the South collection makes the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates southern flavors and fine chocolate.

this could mean puttering around, but Southerners also like to use it as an adjective, meaning something small or trivial (in a bad way). Hopefully, you get something more than a piddling raise from your company this year!

Example: "Quit piddling around and help me set the table!"

3.14: The Untold Story of Fried Chicken

We’re all familiar with the stereotype that Black people love fried chicken. It has been used to degrade, dehumanize, and uphold racism. But where does this stereotype come from? And why was fried chicken singled out?

In this episode, we explore the answers to both of these questions and show the role that fried chicken has played in perpetuating white supremacy. Plus, my dad makes an appearance at the end of the podcast to share his perspective too.

    Quotes from This Episode:
    “I’m a connoisseur of biscuits.” - Lem

“We would hate it when Dad cooked. It was just like, ugh, dad’s cooking again.” - Lem

“You have to have the right consistency of the crispy skin, versus the juicy inside. So there has to be a good marriage. And then bonus points on flavor. It sucks to have people who fry chicken and don’t season it. That’s the cardinal sin.” -Lem
