    Fright Night (w/ Chad Wonsik)

    Fright Night (w/ Chad Wonsik)

What's up, dudes? I've got songwriter Chad Wonsik here to talk all about the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night!" It's the ultimate '80s cheese, full of nonsensical shark-inspired vampire teeth and next-level bat special effects!

Charley Brewster is a typical teenage horror-film junkie trying to be more intimate with his girlfriend Amy. When a mysterious new neighbor named Jerry Dandridge moves next-door, strange events occur and disappearances abound. Charlie becomes increasingly convinced Jerry is a vampire. Nobody believes him, of course. Jerry, however, realizes Charlie is on to him, and brutally confronts him. He even transforms his best friend Evil Ed into a vampire. After Amy is kidnapped, Charlie turns to the only person who he believes could help: washed-up television vampire killer Peter Vincent. The pair return to Dandridge's house, kill his ghoul(?)/golem(?) guardian Billy as well as Evil Ed, and blast Jerry to dust with sunlight. Oh yeah, Amy is restored to her human state.

Has-been horror host? Check. Menacing antagonist? Yep. Companion melting into goo and sand? Uh...I gues... So grab your cross and holy water, pack your wooden stakes, and hunt vampires to this episode all about "Fright Night!"

Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Later, dudes!

    Spooky Season

    Spooky Season

Welcome to Episode 163!  It's October and you know what that means??  It's SPOOK-tober and The Boys are leaning in to it this year.  After an outing to the premiere of an all new sequel in The Exorcist franchise (direct sequel to the disturbing original), The Boys are weighing in and spilling the tea on the original.

This week's Mid-Section is all about The Exorcist  and The Exorcist: Believer.  There are some strange happenings from the set and occurrences involving many of the cast members.  Of course Casey is dishing on cast member tea; and, of course, The Boys are giving their thoughts on the expensive sequel which found it's top spot at the box office in it's opening weekend.

This week, Casey & Mark are catching up after a week away with their respective family members and they waste no time to delve into the happenings and, of course, talk turns to tales of food.

This week's Trash Talk topics include the historic and ouster of Kevin McCarthy and the embarrassing display of the GOP,  a new music single has trouble finding any airplay and the "musician" feels shadow banned, and a Texas woman who has had it with bad tipping.  And then The Boys have wreck-o-mendations (or recommendations?) for you.  It's fun viewing at least!

This week Casey & Mark are bringing the hilarity, discourse, and, as always, faggotry aplenty.  The Boys are kicking off Spooky Season as only they can, so fill up your healthy pour of port vintage and pull up a seat at the table with your GBFs.  It's time to paint!

10 - VHS HORROR ILLUSTRATIONS with Trevor Henderson

10 - VHS HORROR ILLUSTRATIONS with Trevor Henderson

On episode 10 of Our First Fears, debut novelist and creator of monsters, Trevor Henderson and I head to the rear section of the video rental stores of our youths to paw through some of our favorite, and freakiest, VHS horror movie cover art. Specifically, Street Trash, Zombie, The Stuff, The Gate, Suspiria, Alligator, and Fright Night.

We talk about what these poster images have in common, about the artists who made them, and what about them scared us so badly. We get into the “melt-movie” subgenre, how modern fears spread in a post video-store world, and how fun it was to discover gateway horror titles at our school book fairs.

Trevor’s first novel, Scarewaves, is filled with his trademark, nightmare-inducing monsters. It’s being published by Scholastic. Arriving on shelves, October 3rd, 2023. Ask your favorite bookshop to reserve you a copy!

(Content Warnings: We talk about some R-rated exploitation & B-grade horror films from the 70s and 80s. There’s mention of violence, harm to kids, melting bodies, death and other totally grody stuff. Use discretion.)

Reanimator & Fright Night: Beautiful, 80s Gothic!

Reanimator & Fright Night: Beautiful, 80s Gothic!

In this episode, I dive into two of my favorite films from the 1980s: Reanimator & Fright Night, both from 1985.

    Reanimator (1985)

Directed by Stuart Gordon and produced by Brian Yuzna. Starring Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, and Bruce Abbot. Based on an H.P. Lovecraft novelette. It is baffling, fantastic, bloody, and freaking awesome!

    Fright Night (1985)

Directed by Tom Holland (who directed the first Child’s Play film, introducing us to Horror-icon: Chucky!). Starring William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall, Amanda Bearse, and Stephen Geoffreys. I mean…do have I to say anymore? Classic.

They are VERY different movies, but both have the Gothic aesthetic seeping from their pores!

    A Year in Horror - Das Jahr 2011 [S01E01]

    A Year in Horror - Das Jahr 2011 [S01E01]

    Horror? Horror!

    A Year in Horror - Worum geht's?
Was sollen wir ändern? Stimmt Ihr mit unseren Picks überein oder haben wir eine echte Perle links liegen lassen?
Wir wünschen Euch viel Spaß bei der ersten Episode von A Year in Horror

S3 Ep 10 'The Christmas Horror Song (Cos of Covid 19) Music Special live from The Overlook Hotel (SEASON FINALE)

In this rather unusual episode of Creepy Cove, Peter turns up at the church ready for another lovely horror themed church service, but is struck by the eerie atmosphere...OF AN EMPTY CHURCH.

    Where is the congregation?

Thankfully, Peter is able to have a conversation with Church Administrator Rupert Donk, to learn that a terrible blight has reached even Creepy Cove...

Yet the show must go on, in some way...and so after ten minutes of chat, Rupert dusts off an old cassette and plays it...what is on the tape, you ask? I shall tell you.

For it is the Flicks That Church Forgot Horror Song Music Special from 2014. Previously thought lost (e.g. behind a Patreon Paywall) that special show, broadcast from The Overlook Hotel, is played in it's entirety for your pleasure. That music special features songs from horror films, METICULOUSLY recreated by Peter Laws with his keyboard, guitar and a Macbook.

    Music includes songs from
    THE WICKER MAN
    CARRIE
HOWLING II: YOUR SISTER IS A WEREWOLF
    TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE II
    SILVER BULLET
    THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK
    KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS
    &
DEADTIME STORIES (aka Freaky Fairy Tales)

So please sit back and enjoy this tale of two halfs, almost...a dip into Creepy Cove, and then a special night of entertainment from the vault...all in a bid to wish you, our loyal listener...a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The secret to watching scary movies

The secret to watching scary movies

It's Halloween weekend and even if you’re not into trick or treating your Netflix feed will be full of blood, gore and vintage Drew Barrymore. To watch or not watch? Now, THAT is the question. But it turns out… scary movies are oddly comforting. And a dose of terror can even make us sleep BETTER. It all comes down to watch we watch. And whether we watch until the end.

Original Vs Remake : Fright Night

Original Vs Remake : Fright Night

This week we start a new series where we compare the original version of a movie against it's remake. For this episode Ian chose the movies both entitled "Fright Night." The original coming out in 1985 full of 80's cheese, versus it's 2011 remake which is much more serious in tone but not without it's humor. Which one will be decided is the superior film? Listen and find out.
