    Our Plumber Is the Coolest!

Laura House tells Annabelle how plumber Frank did great work on her and Brian’s home…and their hearts (platonically). And now that Annabelle is back from her book leave, House dusts off the Tiny Victories hotline to play one of the calls that came in while AG was out.

Mark Ravenhill wants you to argue over his plays

Mark Ravenhill wants you to argue over his plays

British playwright Mark Ravenhill made a huge splash in the mid-90s with his first play, Shopping and F***ing. He's since become one of the most produced writers in the UK. His recent play The Cane is on now at Melbourne's Red Stitch.

Also, what does it take for an Australian to make it on Broadway? We ask Carmel Dean, a composer and musical director who spent 20 years working on huge shows. And we pay tribute to the architect Viv Fraser, designer of some of Sydney's most iconic venues.

    Fun Home

    Fun Home
This week Matt and Tony discuss Alison Bechdel's 2006 award-winning graphic memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic. For Matt, who discovered the book at a pivotal time in his life, this is a chance to revisit an old favorite with fresh eyes while Tony is going in blind, only knowing Bechdel as the source of The Bechdel Test. They discuss the mainstream praise Fun Home earned upon its release and the universal draw of coming of age stories. They also get into some personal territory as they use Alison's experiences with her parents to examine some of their own life experiences.

Ava Lynn Vercellone sings "Ring of Keys" from FUN HOME

Ava Lynn Vercellone sings "Ring of Keys" from FUN HOME
Over the summer, I had the pleasure of music-directing FUN HOME at the Weston Playhouse in Vermont. Our Small Alison, Ava Lynn Vercellone, came on to sing the powerful "Ring of Keys." My analysis focuses on the song's instrumentation, smart use of rhythm in the vocal line, and registration shift in the bridge. Ava talks about sharing a role with two other talented actresses, working in an intimate theater, and making friends with her young co-stars.
