Susan Orlean, Orchids Are the Pizza of the Flower World

Susan Orlean, Orchids Are the Pizza of the Flower World

Bestselling author Susan Orlean of The New Yorker is our pizza guest. Then there's pizza headlines, and the pizza topic is "pepperoni."

Susan Orlean is a bestselling author and long-time staff writer for The New Yorker. Her 1998 book, “The Orchid Thief," was famously adapted to the film “Adaptation,” in which Meryl Streep plays a version of her. Susan authored 2018’s “The Library Book," 2021’s “On Animals,” and wrote for HBO’s “How To with John Wilson."

In this episode, Susan recalls childhood memories of Cleveland's Little Italy pizza scene, discusses cooking pizzas with her Ooni oven, and if one of the Pizza Pod Party hosts could be a future subject for her.

Ep. 192: Skins N' Bones - Talking Drums with Kent Aberle & Rob Hammersmith

Ep. 192: Skins N' Bones - Talking Drums with Kent Aberle & Rob Hammersmith

Join us for a very special episode with 2 of our favorite guests, as well as 2 of Atlanta’s greatest drummers: Rob Hammersmith (Skid Row) and Kent Aberle (Blackberry Smoke). We talk about all things that go bang, boom, thump, and crash! Poor Robert must suffer while 3 drummers in one room chat about the greatest of all time and the brightest of the unsung heroes of the rock n’ punk n’ metal drumming community. We get some awesome stories from the road as these 2 are always touring the world with Skid Row and Blackberry Smoke. You don’t want to miss this one! Plus, drummer jokes by Bakko from Cobras & Fire!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all 3 with 2 of our favorite drummers in the world that both hosts have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with in the past. Kent and Rob come across like scholars and gentlemen… even though they’re drummers!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Poster Children – “Tommyhaus” from Tool Of The Man (1993)
    2. Chain Poets – “Little Tin Toys” from Chain Poets (2000)
    3. Death – “Let The World Turn” from Survival Of The Fittest (2023)
    4. Our Lady Peace – “One Man Army” from Happiness… Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch (1999)

"Presence of the Lord" Released by Band "Blind Faith" 1969
Written by Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton.
Producer Renee plays her rendition on Piano + Guitar.
Sing Along ! Here are the Lyrics :

I have finally found a way to live,
Just like I never could before,
I know that I don't have much to give,
But I can open any door,
    Everybody knows the secret,
    Everybody knows the score,
I have finally found a way to live,
In the presence of the Lord.
    (music)
I've  finally found a place to live,
Just like I never could before,
And I know that I don't have much to give,
But soon I'll open any door,
    Everybody knows the secret,
    Everybody knows the score,
I've  finally found a place to live,
In the presence of the Lord.

In the presence of the Lord.

Ep. 179: Retro Relapse Regurgitated Revival Revision

Ep. 179: Retro Relapse Regurgitated Revival Revision

This week we are discussing what the interweb calls the New Wave Of Classic Rock! There have been bands doing the retro-rock thing for years, but this phenomenon seems to be gaining momentum lately and we decided to focus on new-ish bands that have released albums in the last year or so. Indeed, rock n’ roll is not dead and is in the very capable hands of these killer new classics!

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. The younger generation is picking up guitars and playing that classic blues-inspired hard rock again! This retro rock thing is not quite as new as the interweb is making it out to be, but who cares? It’s a breath of freshly regurgitated air!Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.

    1. Rival Sons - “Guillotine” from DARKFIGHTER (2023)
    2. Classless Act - “This Is For You (w/ Justin Hawkins)” from Welcome To The Show (2022)

    4. The Cold Stares - “Nothing But The Blues” from Voices (2023)
