    • How her writing is all about light overcoming dark
    • The way that 2020 had us on social media and on our phones a lot, instead of being with and understanding others
    • Advice Brittany would give to new writers
    • And more...

After the interview Mark reflects on the importance of attending to the needs of your readers.

Ep. 7 - The Myth of Happily Ever After

Ep. 7 - The Myth of Happily Ever After
As women, we’re conditioned to unrealistically, in my opinion, believe that when we marry the person of our dreams or what we think the person of our dreams is, that we will live this make-believe story, which includes a handsome prince who will take care of us, a home with a white picket fence, perfect children and maybe one Golden Doodle. Oh and we'll look amazing and never age.

We're taught that marriage is the perfect formula for our life ever-after of happiness and bliss. But I ask you, if life is a combination of good and bad, then how is it possible to have a happily ever after? In this episode, we talk about how to have an amazing life post divorce, even when it's not perfect.

Episode 67 - Encyclopedia of Dating : His name was 'Walt Disney'
Raise your hand if your first idea of true love came from Disney? For me it was Aladdin, I used to daydream all the time about my prince meeting me at a balcony, the only problem was that I was super afraid of heights. The whole notion of a woman being rescued was so normal in the 80s and 90s and that had a huge impact on the idea of love and what a soulmate was. So we venture into the world of movies, good movies, great movies, romantic movies, even a romantic comedy... and how these models of perfection have molded our personal sense of a soulmate.

But do we believe in soul mates? Have we met our soul mate? What defines our concept of love?

Episode 62 - Encyclopedia of Dating : His name was 'Mr Perfect'

Episode 62 - Encyclopedia of Dating : His name was 'Mr Perfect'
If we really thought about it, would we actually want someone perfect? The answer is going to be no because none of us are perfect. We are all flawed beings, a sum of our genes and hormones and parents and life experiences and socialization. So why are we so set on this idea of a perfect partner, that's not what we really want.... is it? The Doc and I break down some of the qualities that matter the most to us, and what we are hoping to find in an ideal mate. Tune in and see if you agree or disagree with our top choices!

1694 How Can Marriage Thrive in Conflict?

1694 How Can Marriage Thrive in Conflict?

Conflict is inevitable in any relationship. It opens the door of discovery or destruction. So how can marriage thrive in conflict?

First, you must understand what conflict is. It's a serious disagreement or argument; a clash of opposing needs, wants, or wishes.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

I can think of many "conflicts" in our marriage. But the difference is how you choose to handle those differences.

Conflicts can be simply specks of dirt on an average day. But if you let that dirt pile up, serious consequences can occur in your marriage. Pretty soon, you can't see the floor. You have years of messes that seem impossible to overcome.

So when you look at conflict, this is a disagreement between you and your spouse. You don't see eye to eye. It doesn't have to be big either. Small disagreements can add up to big ones eventually.

If you look at the disagreements and differences as ultimatums (your way or the highway), then conflict can grow rapidly like a weed.

What's sad, is many couples face this every day. They don't know how to handle disagreements. Each person relies on their up-bringing or past experiences. Not many couples go in with confidence regarding resolving conflict.

Our society doesn't know how. We get on our soapbox (i.e., social media, girlfriends, family, etc.) and talk bad about the other person. It's all about slamming before the other can slam you.

However, if you choose to approach conflict with compromise, you as a couple can actually thrive in conflict.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Approach conflict with compromise!

Conflicts are problems that can inspire us to mend things, fix things, and better things. Instead of looking at conflict as the enemy, embrace it as opportunity for discovery.

During dating, you were in a season of discovery. When conflict arises, think of it as a moment of discovery.

    • Listen to the story or reasoning to understand the heart.

Most of us are jumping to conclusions before we even know the backstory. We all have a backstory. Learn the story to understand the heart.

"Open your ears so you can hear the story of the heart near and dear. Let the facts lead the way to understand what matters today. Conflict instills compassion for all, you just have to be willing to let the hurt fall." ~ Kristianne Wargo

Marriage is not about you. It's about the two of you. You are in the throws of life together. You're better together. So don't settle for the dump truck of destruction. Reach out for the compromise and thrive!

"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness!"

CHALLENGE: Seek out areas where you can compromise and thrive!

1911 Are You Just Winging It?

1911 Are You Just Winging It?

Life gets busy. Emotions run high. Your spouse can't do anything right most of the time. When running in all different directions, are you just winging it?

"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." ~ Benjamin Franklin

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Now I don't know if this was before or after he flew that kite which was struck by lightning. But regardless, it makes perfect sense.

A lack of preparation can induce failure. It increases the rate of failure.

So why do we continuously live a life of unpreparedness?

    Are you just winging it?

Believe it or not, I am one who likes surprises. But with anything, we should be prepared especially in our marriage. Winging it isn't always the answer. In fact, it might be what we think is the easy way out only to find that it makes life more complicated.

What we put into our marriage will be the minimum of what we get out of it.

If we just live our day-to-day completing responsibilities, then the only thing we'll get back is a completed checklist.

Love isn't about a checklist. Love is a verb! Be devoted.

    The K.I.S.S. ~ Be devoted!

Marriage is not about just winging it!

"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." ~ Romans 12:10

We need to take the time and put the energy into our marriages.

    1. Learn about your spouse.
    2. Serve your spouse with an attitude of gratitude.
    3. Love your spouse where he/she is.

Imagine how our marriages could take flight if we were devoted.

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." ~ Philippians 2:4

Marriage was not made to be easy. God wanted us to work at what He believed to be the most sacred celebration where two become one in marriage; a sacred covenant between you, your spouse, and God.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

1890 Love Makes You Do Strange Things

1890 Love Makes You Do Strange Things

Have you ever jumped on a couch professing your love? Love makes you do strange things.

Nowadays, there are shows with men and women professing their love for each by scaling skyscrapers, jumping out of planes, and climbing ridiculously steep mountains.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Love is a verb, which means it takes action. Think about the heart pumping blood throughout the body. If it's not pumping, you're not living. If your love is not acting, your not loving.

So taking a step back from all the stuff in this world (COVID-19, global pandemic, canceling events, etc.), I want to take you on a journey. A place where you can remember that "jumping on the couch" experience with your sweetheart.

But I want to share with you a secret. Guess who gave me such wise advice?

Charlie Brown said, "Love makes you do strange things."

The K.I.S.S. ~ Do something strange for your love!

Now keep in mind that initially, you want to be safe and healthy over the next few weeks. Then you can get a little more creative and curious in your exploration of something strange.

What strange thing can you do for your sweetheart?

Well, let's do some brainstorming. You pick a few things that will work in your season of life and then jump in, prioritizing your love for each other.

    • Love Notes
    • Love Texts
    • Love Coupons
    • Showerspirations
    • Mirror Reflections
    • Morning Routine Impact (MRI)
    • Date Night
    • Couch Night
    • Favorite Meal/Dessert
    • Anniversary Love Jar or Journal
    • Surprise Notes of Endearment
    • Getaway
    • Stimulate desired intimacy; try something new
    • Little pitter-patters (holding hands, Eskimo kiss, etc.)

Love is patient. Love is kind. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

"Love is patient. Love is kind."

1582 Love Even When You're Mad

1582 Love Even When You're Mad

How much do you argue with your sweetheart? Emotions can wreck a relationship. But if you desire a strong marriage, you must love even when you're mad!

Yet channeling that anger can be frustrating. You want to be right, or prove your spouse is wrong.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact

Love is not a convenience. It's not about getting your way and showing affection only when you get something in return.

Marriage is a two-way street. Love is a verb. Put the two together and that requires work!

And that work can be easy at times and challenging at other times.

So what happens typically when you get mad at your spouse?

    • You storm out of the room in a huff.
    • Your tone of voice changes and has a bite to it.
    • You yell loudly with great emphasis.
    • You walk away quietly not doing anything because you believe the situation is hopeless.
    • You are short with him throughout the rest of the evening.
    • You play the silent game; no speaking, only dirty looks.
    • You may even sting him with your fiery laser eyes.
    • You might have even thrown a few things.

Of course, this might be the tip of the iceberg.

What can you do when you are plain, plum mad?

    LOVE!!!

The K.I.S.S. ~ Love even when you're mad!

    Love is an action.

Love is patient. Love is kind. (1 Corinthians 13:4)

Love requires us to decide whether to act or not to act. Either way, you are taking action. Just one, though, lives up to what God commands of us.

"Let all you do be done in love." ~ 1 Corinthians 16:14

And that means to love even when you're mad!

    1. Create a presence of calmness and self-control.
    2. Convey an attitude with a gentle heart; this uses your attitude to guide your responses toward your spouse.
    3. Serve with a grateful heart. (No expectations of a return on your investment; altruism.)
    4. Forgive quicker and love deeper. (When you forgive quickly, your heart is free to love deeper.)

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
