Harry Spaight - Selling With Dignity
Harry Spaight joins the LinkedIn Sherpa Bob Woods to talk about how people can be dignified with their sales approach and get out of that ABC, or always be closing, mentality. Listen as they discuss whether artificial intelligence can bring dignity to sales and what its role would be in the near future. They also touch on the importance of prioritizing the results and not the metrics, because that’s where the real value in business is. Harry Spaight: #SellingWithDignity A Discussion on Living With and Conducting Business With Dignity

Harry Spaight: #SellingWithDignity A Discussion on Living With and Conducting Business With Dignity

Before his sales career began officially, Harry Spaight spent more than a decade in mission work, including two years in the Dominican Republic. He believed that his background of serving, the ability to develop trust, putting others first and being a genuine listener while being relatable, would transfer over well into sales. Early on in Harry's career, he wondered if his thinking was correct. From what he saw, salespeople appeared to be pushy and say and do pretty much whatever it took to get the business. He realized quickly that was not going to work for him.

    Key Points:

    • Selling with dignity only works when you live with dignity
    • Become Adaptable
    • Sells is emotional if you let it be
    • Keep a servant mindset

    EPISODE 5

Welcome back to Living The Next Chapter - today we introduce you to the book, Selling With Dignity.  Meet my new Clubhouse friend! Harry Spaight on the Living The Next Chapter Podcast

    About Harry

Harry Spaight is a Keynote Speaker, Author, and Coach. Having grown up in a small New England town with old school values, Harry became involved in mission work. To support himself he had a small janitorial/office cleaning business. The mission work is what gave Harry the most joy and purpose. That work led him to spend two years in the Dominican Republic working with the local population to improve upon their life skills and spiritual growth.

Upon returning to the States, Harry transferred his skills, working with people, to sales. With very little business acumen, Harry applied the principles from the Bible as a guide of how to treat people. Those principles that were two thousand years old or more still proved to be practical. It was all about serving others. Harry believed that people would buy from him if he had a servant’s mindset. The principles worked. Harry eventually moved and was leading a team of sales professionals in downtown Washington DC, just a few blocks from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Would the principles work in such a competitive market as Washington DC? The answer is Yes. The principles are indeed timeless.

Selling With Dignity - Harry Spaight

Selling With Dignity - Harry Spaight

What is Selling With Dignity? That is the topic for this podcast as Eric and Harry speak about the new book. What is selling with dignity? It is treating yourself with respect and being respectful of others. Those that sell with dignity are not necessarily putting pressure on people to make a decision.

We talk about a number of areas where this comes to the forefront. "Actors" are in sales too. However we don't need to be that way. If we are of the mindset that we don't want to resort to tactics, we don't have to.

The book is for salespeople that don't want to be the pushy salesy type. Entrepreneurs will also benefit from this book. Some are afraid to ask for the order. In selling with dignity we have the opportunity to serve our clients and part of that is making the ask.

How to Improve Your Boring Meetings with David Price

How to Improve Your Boring Meetings with David Price

Meetings!!! Do you feel that we have too many meetings? Are they productive? Do they have a purpose? Are they the right length? Are we having them at the right time of day? Are we meeting to have meetings?

So many of us get bogged down with meetings and miss out on productivity. David gives us some very valuable insight and guidelines.

Are your meetings held on Monday mornings? Is this a good time to have a meeting? Could we try Tuesday and see if the participation is better?

Do meetings drag on because because the tradition is to have the meeting last for an hour or two hours? David gives the example of moving the meeting towards the end of the day so quitting time is the natural end of the meeting.

What about Powerpoint? Are our slides filled with text? If they are, we may be lacking confidence that we don't want to miss anything. If this is the case, we can trust ourselves a bit more by removing the text and using a few pictures as talking points.

If you can see the tops of heads in the audience, that is an indicator that the audience has lost interest.

David reminds us that no one dies while giving a speech. Once you give it, you can ask yourself was it worth being that worried?

David has quite a few stories and is well worth listening to and one can learn alot from this podcast.

A Genuine Conversation About Diversity and Inclusion in Sales with Amy Hrehovcik

A Genuine Conversation About Diversity and Inclusion in Sales with Amy Hrehovcik

Amy Hrehovcik joins us in having A Genuine Conversation About Diversity and Inclusion in Sales. Amy has quite the background in tech sales. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of women in this space and Amy shares some insight. There are situations in sales where women are treated differently than men. Its hard to imagine for some of us but the old school mistreatment of women with innuendo and crude remarks, is still far more prevalant than it should be. This discussion leads to the situations that minorities may be confronted with too.

There aren't any easy answers. Having conversations and becoming more aware of others views and experiences can only help.

How to Be a Go-Giver to Grow Your Business - with Bob Burg

How to Be a Go-Giver to Grow Your Business - with Bob Burg

In How to be a Go Giver to Grow Your Business, Bob Burg shares that being a Go Giver is all about about providing immense value to others. Nobody cares if a salesperson has a quota or needs to earn a living, the sales professional that is looking out for the interests of others.

The  book The Go Giver Leader is also similar in the sense that the priciples are the same. Leadership is influence. The essence is Pull instead of pushing their will and ideas on others.Influencers pull. People must first buy into you before they buy into your idea.

The Go Giver leader and influencer need to be asking themselves questions about our clients or team member's goals and valuies. Helping them get what they want.

Bob is the author of Endless Referrals which was a "how to" book. Great salesmanship is not about the product or the service. It is about the person you touch. The client is going to feel the impact of the sale.

Having a noble purpose, a Why, is going to separate  salespeople and companies. Being outwardly focused on others will lead to better results. Yet we also have to deal with our own human nature which typically means we are self focused. Bob brings up his definition of happiness which is living congruently with one's values. Just because we think something is a value for us, does not mean it is valuable for the prospect.

How can we find what is valuable to others? Ask questions and listen is the best way to do this.  Listen to understand. Remembering that we all have our own set of beliefs. Thus there is a need to constantly and gently ask for clarification.

How to Create an Authentic Brand and Scale with Rob Napoli

How to Create an Authentic Brand and Scale with Rob Napoli

How to Create an Authentic Brand and Scale with Rob Napoli  is a conversation with the aim of helping entrepreneurs grow their business. How does one get a personal brand and then grow it?

Where are the customers? That is where you want to be. Are they on Linkedin, Instagram, Twitter? Go engage with your customers and potential customers. The magic starts here with engagement, dialogue. Its not just about likeing someone's content but really engaging in digital conversations.

How do we engage with people that may not even be found in Social? Is there anything we can do? Maybe the CEO isn't on Linkedin but are there others in the company that are active on it? By connecting with and engagging with employess of that particular company, we can create the connection paths.

People want to work where they can make an impact. Eric raises the question about a company that has a strong Why. Rob provides an answer about a company that brings up the difference from serving and being "willing" to serve. Its like a person who builds a business out of Demand but not clearly understanding the Why. The company without a Why is not going to have as much passion behind it.

Rob shares his sales process where he touches on Linkedin, Instagram, Clubhouse and making connections and having conversations. How does one find the time to do this? The answer? A  virtual assistant helps with the posting and game planning the week or the next 10 days.

Many who struggle with staying focused  like Rob, who candidly speaks about his ADHD challenge. From  the various experiences, Rob had to think what is it that he wants to do. With all of the activities and the workload, he realigned what is important to get done.  In this conversation we get to hear Eric Konovalov the coach. If one is thinking about changing the routines, what is it you are trying to achieve would be a good question to ask.

How We Grew Our Business During COVID with Matt Wigler

Matt Wigler is an entrepreneur, musical artist, and public speaker based in Miami, Florida. He is Founder & CEO of MHW Live Music and Wigler Group. Matt has an active career as a jazz & blues artist, and performs with his trio at venues and festivals around the world. He also speaks on topics including entrepreneurship, business-to-business sales, and building strong company culture in a remote work environment.

Matt explains in How We Grew Our Business During COVID, that the leveling of the competive playing field happened during Covid. With MHW Live Music, Matt and his team were calling on the hospitality industry to promote musicians. He shares how although it is a competitive industry like most industries, due to the Covid pandemic, thethe playing field became level as the hotels were shut down. Since nobody was hiring musicians to perform in hotels that were closed, they made the most of the opportunity by starting relationships.

From that business another one was spawned where Matt developed an outbound appointment setting business for corporate sales. Matt has learned a lot in this venture and what he shares about culture in a business that usually has high turnover and developing relationships with prospects is worth the listen.

Matt is also a musician himself. He can be found on the above websites as well as Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattwigler/

How to Lead Winners with Phil McGeoghan

How to Lead Winners with Phil McGeoghan

Coach Phil McGeoghan-NFL Wide Receivers Coach
Consistency, burning desire to compete. Sacrifice. Up early in the morning. As a football player, Phil like all players are under intense scrutiny. Their games and practices are filmed and coaches are approaching players to improve.

Phil was the oldest of 7 kids. His dad was a prison dentist and a disciplinarian. Phil learned early what it was like to lead by setting a great example for his siblings. It is probably no accident that all of them have turned out with impressive careers.

Phil shares some of his vulnerable characteristics with his players to build trust. This is much different compared to the authoritarian style of leadership that is so prevalent in the sport of football.

Phil is one who takes responsibility. Listening to how he takes responsibility for a printer malfunctioning at a deadline is impressive. Most of us would gladly put the blame on an inanimate object but Phil talks about the accountability in the minor things as well. Instead of worrying who is to blame, one can move on quickly in a culture of accountability.

Great advice is provided for the IGM people (I Got Mine). He suggests sitting down with the mission statement and drive the better culture, what is acceptable and what isn’t. The IGMs may bounce from job to job but that will catch up with them.

A challenge with some athletes is they lived their entire life playing in front of others with incredible highs. These athletes have an incredible let done to deal with and are starting over at the bottom. Even those that made tons of money are dealing with a huge void without the game.

Overall this was an extremely enjoyable and enlightening conversation about coaching in sports at a very high level that easily translates into leadership in business.

How to Connect and Build Trust by Using Ethics - With Yonason Goldson

How to Connect and Build Trust by Using Ethics - With Yonason Goldson

Eric and I have the opportunity to speak with a rabbi who is now helping businesses to build trust with their teams and customers. How to Connect and Build Trust by Using Ethics - With Yonason Goldson we discuss the value of ethics and purpose in business. Success in business is ultimately about relationships and trust.

Businesses sometimes lose sight of the simple things like doing the right things for their clients. Earning people's trust will help turn your clients into salespeople for your company.

On the other hand there are companies that will pit employees and managers against each other in a survival of the fittest culture. These types of cultures are not sustainable. Yet other companies that build on trust and culture, not only do well, the message of culture travels and people want to do business with thoose cultures.

We also touch on the fact that sometimes we have to keep our beliefs to ourselves in order for these same people to at least listen to a message that may help them.  This conversation is one that we could continue for some time.
