New Years Resolution ≠ Resolution ~ Level Up ^

New Years Resolution ≠ Resolution ~ Level Up ^

This segment dives into the stereotypical view of new year’s resolutions and the shift that needs to take place when we desire a change in our lives. What and when we eat is a significant part of that change. A discussion takes us to the variance of levels when practicing the keto diet. Recognizing the different types of keto are paramount to a person making a permanent change. This can also help you reach higher levels of wellness, clarity, and mastery. Furthermore, we cover the importance of knowing which fats are best suited for you while on your keto journey. Not all fats are the same, nor should they be treated equal.

Bitesized Brain Snack: Why we need to eat FATS.

Bitesized Brain Snack: Why we need to eat FATS.

This brain snack  is all about an essential macronutrient that is often feared. It’s name is a little misleading and a lot of time is misunderstood as the tissue that accumulates around our midsection as we over consume food. Today we will be talking about dietary fat.

Fat is one of the body’s most basic building blocks. In fact, the average person is made up of between 15 and 30 percent fat.

Yet for decades, we’ve demonized dietary fat. We’ve diligently followed low-fat diets that almost always equate to high-sugar, high-refined-carb diets. This diet contributes to insulin resistance, obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and many other health issues.

However, dietary fats are absolutely essential for health. Think about it: You have more than 100 trillion cells in your body, and every single cell needs to be constructed of high-quality fat. How can your body get this essential component of cells? You guessed it—diet.

So how do you know if your cells are getting enough vital fat? Your body actually sends you signals when it doesn’t get enough good fat—signals you shouldn’t ignore. Some warning signs include:

    • Dry, itchy, scaling, or flaking skin
    • Soft, cracked, or brittle nails
    • Hard ear wax
    • Tiny bumps on the back of your arms or on your torso
    • Achy and stiff joints
    • Memory problems
    • Attention deficit disorder
    • Diabetes
    • Weight gain
    • Cancer

If you experience one or more of these symptoms, it could be your body telling you that it’s not getting enough high-quality, essential fats.

Unlocking Fertility: Understanding the Connection Between Blood Sugar and Pregnancy with Dr. Christine Maren

Unlocking Fertility: Understanding the Connection Between Blood Sugar and Pregnancy with Dr. Christine Maren

Are you pregnant and have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes? Are you looking for nutrition advice to help you have a healthy pregnancy? Do you have food sensitivities that are affecting your blood sugar levels? If so, then this podcast with Dr. Christine Maren is for you! In this podcast, we will discuss gestational diabetes, nutrition advice for a healthy pregnancy, food sensitivities, blood sugar management, and elimination diets. Tune in as we chat about the importance of healthy fats during breastfeeding and some of the most significant health issues impacting fertility.

Gestational Diabetes: Nutrition Advice for a Healthy Pregnancy

Gestational diabetes affects pregnant women, causing high blood sugar levels, and the lack of discussion around it may make women hesitant to deviate from their doctor's advice. Dr. Christine Maren's podcast shares her personal experience with gestational diabetes and conflicting nutrition advice, such as the recommendation to follow a high-carb, whole-grain diet, which led to blood sugar spikes. The confusion arises from the misconception that whole wheat bread is better than white bread for blood sugar levels. Additionally, the advice to consume 50% carbs but low fat left her unsure of suitable food choices.

The Link Between Food Sensitivities and Blood Sugar Management

Not all carbohydrates are created equal. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) does not differentiate between types of carbohydrates, treating all carbs as equal; this can be problematic for individuals with gestational diabetes, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and even type 1 diabetes. Consuming high-carbohydrate foods can cause blood sugar levels to spike, leading to complications and health issues.

Elimination Diet: A Guide to Identifying Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities can contribute to various health issues, including gastrointestinal problems, skin rashes, mental health issues, and inflammatory states. Identifying and eliminating these sensitivities can be crucial for individuals looking to improve their overall health and well-being. The top three food sensitivities are dairy, gluten, and eggs. While these foods are nutrient-dense and beneficial for many people, some individuals may have sensitivities that cause negative reactions.

The best way to learn about food sensitivities is through elimination diets and food sensitivity testing. Elimination diets involve removing potential trigger foods from the diet for at least four weeks and then slowly reintroducing them one at a time to see if any physical reactions occur. Food sensitivity testing can also be helpful, but it is essential to interpret the results with caution, especially if the individual is already on an elimination diet. By taking control of their diet and identifying potential trigger foods, individuals can improve their quality of life and reduce the negative effects of food sensitivities.

    Key Takeaways:

[18:30] What are some of the side effects of gluten?
[20:35] The importance of healthy fats during pregnancy and breastfeeding

[32:15] Advice for people who are newly diagnosed with diabetes.

PCOS & Two Natural Pregnancies - Melle Stewart

PCOS & Two Natural Pregnancies - Melle Stewart

We chat to Melle from New Zealand (and little Zaylee) about her journey from her emotional PCOS diagnosis in the year she was going to get married, being told she may not be able to conceive and how she managed to incredibly naturally have two girls through making changes in her diet and lifestyle.

We speak through all the typical symptoms of PCOS including hair growth, weight gain, insulin resistance (resulting in sugar cravings), difficult to budge weight and irregular cycles throughout her life which were managed by birth control and how she got on top of them. We also discuss the heartache of being diagnosed and the dedication and commitment that goes in to managing a hormonal imbalance.

Melle worked really hard  through patterns of emotional eating and moved to wholefoods, reducing sugar, gluten and alcohol, including more movement in her days and Happy Hormones supplements which all resulted in healthy weight loss, reduced symptoms, her feeling better and well and her two healthy babies!

This episode goes a little deeper in to postpartum too discussing birth trauma, breastfeeding, pelvic floor damage and her prolapsed bladder after her first birth.

Melle openly shares her beautifully inspirational story so other women who have just been diagnosed can take hope in knowing this is a condition that can be managed.
