    Pipe Theology

    Pipe Theology

In political science, the word “reactionary” is used to describe someone who is content with the status quo. Without a vision of their own, when change comes, they quickly adapt to the new environment. However, a “revolutionary” is someone who creates and calls others into positive change.

As you study the life of Jesus, we discover that he was a true revolutionary. As He led his disciples, his life was a conduit for grace, compassion and love. So too, following Jesus is always for a purpose: to live out his vision and mission in the world.

In this message, Dominic teaches from John 4 and explores Jesus revolutionary vision to reach those on the margins of faith.

    When Your Soul is Restless

    When Your Soul is Restless

In this episode of Pursuing Faith, Dominic teaches on the story of the Samaritan woman from John 4. We’re surrounded by a world that fuels our discontent. Alluring advertisements, temptations, distractions, materialism and consumerism all offer the promise of satisfaction, but only leave us more restless than before.

In the face of superficiality, Jesus says: “If you drink of these waters you will thirst again, but if you drink of the water I give, you will never thirst.” As the late Timothy Keller wrote, “if we look to some created thing to give us the meaning, hope, and happiness that only God can give, it will eventually fail to deliver and break our hearts.”

    What is Belief In God?

    What is Belief In God?

What does it mean to actually "believe" in God? Is it merely an affirmation of faith or something more? In this episode of Pursuing Faith, Dominic explores Jesus conversation with Nicodemus in John 3 through the lens of what true belief looks like.

That Time I hit a Harley

That Time I hit a Harley

Over the last few months we’ve been going through the Gospel of John, having a look at the history and background, as well as exploring cultural and apologetic questions that this book raises for us today.

In this episode we’ll be unpacking the first part of John 3, digging into what Jesus meant when he told Nicodemus ‘you must be born again.’ Dominic Done talks about the Old and New Testament context, Greek philosophy and - towards the end - that time he hit a Harley.

    Following Jesus Isn’t Safe

    Following Jesus Isn’t Safe

In this episode, Dominic explores John 2:13-25. In this controversial passage, Jesus is seen driving out religious leaders from the temple. This raises a ton of fascinating questions about  the character of Jesus, the nature of organized religion and church, and God’s vision for holiness in our lives.

    Who is God? (Part 2)

    Who is God? (Part 2)

In this episode, Dominic shares part 2 of a talk he gave in Portland, Oregon.

C.S. Lewis once said that theology is a type of map - that instead of being merely analyzed from a distance - ought to be used in the moment by moment trenches of our humanity.

In this message, Dominic shares how the doctrine of the incarnation is more than just a concept, but is a profound reality that has very real impact upon our daily lives.

    Who is God? (Part 1)

    Who is God? (Part 1)

AW Tozer once wrote: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above its religion, and man’s spiritual history will positively demonstrate that no religion has ever been greater than its idea of God."

In this episode, Dominic shares a talk he gave in Oregon, unpacking the topic of God’s character and nature. How do we know this God? What is he like? What is his character and nature?

    147 - *BONUS EPISODE* Discerning God's Will

Placed for a purpose: discerning God’s will when your heart wants to move.
With the summer months especially, many of us can find ourselves in a place of wanting to travel, change jobs, or mix up something in our lives. However, when we have a continuous desire for change, how do we know if that is from God? How can we discern His will vs. our own wants and desires?

In this episode, we invite Hannah Bidne, our college ministry intern, on to discuss discerning God's will versus our own wants and desires.

    127 - More Than a Quiet Time

    127 - More Than a Quiet Time

"Quiet time" is a common term in Christian culture. For many, it means time alone with God and traditionally looks like reading one's Bible, praying, and journaling for 10 minutes in the morning.

If this is what you are doing—yes and amen. Those times are good, however, in this episode, we challenge you to more than a traditional quiet time. We want you to truly commune with God, which—we argue—won't be as intimate if you only think of and speak to Him for 10 minutes each morning.

Join us as we discuss  what it looks like to have "more than a quiet time" in order to practically build intimacy with God and know Him.

And He Will Be Called | Wonderful Counselor

And He Will Be Called | Wonderful Counselor
Christmas is such a beautiful time for Christians, because we celebrate the birth of Jesus, Immanuel who is God with Us. As we make our way through the Christmas season, we are going to explore each of the names of Jesus as His birth was foretold in Isaiah. This week, we start with Wonderful Counselor. The root of all our problems is our separation from God. Since Adam and Eve, we have been separated from Him through sin, and the solution comes in knowing God and knowing Him rightly. A wonderful counselor is one who is beyond understanding but advises, too wonderful for words, but makes things known. Begin your faith journey of getting to know Him rightly by being honest with Him, ask for healing, listen to His guidance, and do whatever He says to do. Do you know Jesus as your savior? Have you trusted Him as your wonderful counselor? If not, please reach out, we’d love to pray with you and share the hope of Jesus with you this Christmas season. Burnthickory.com/next

    Don't Make Fear A Habit

Fear can seem innocent and tolerable because we are concerned for our needs and future, but God commands us to not fear nor be anxious about anything.

What is the Gospel? - Gaius Goff

What is the Gospel? - Gaius Goff

Most tend to think of things related to God as being 'religion' and want to have nothing to do with it. We here at Anchorpoint don't want anything to do with religion either. You see, religion is just man's vain attempt to reach out to God - and is often very much mistaken about who God is and what He wants us to know about Him. The gospel is nothing like this. It is the simple plan of salvation initiated and carried out by God Himself. It is all about the Christ of Calvary. It's all about His cross. Now, what could be better than that?
