Episode 109 - Helen's Story (Part One) - Induction of Labour and Birth Preparation for Second Baby

In this week's episode, I am chatting with Helen Totton who shares her experience of giving birth to her first child 8 years ago. Helen had an induction which left her struggling with postnatal depression.

This is an inspirational story of how Helen worked hard to prepare for her second birth to ensure she was not going to have the same experience again.

Changing Your Perspective on Discomfort Will Change Your Life

Changing Your Perspective on Discomfort Will Change Your Life

In this potent episode of The Liberated AF Podcast, Jenna blows the fucking top off of the traditional view of discomfort. We have all heard “change requires you to step outside of your comfort zone” but it still feels really shitty which makes most of us want to avoid it. Ever done that? Same-sies. So what can you do about it? One, get really used to choosing to sit with discomfort. Two, change your entire perspective on it. What if discomfort (in moments that you know are for expansion) became surges instead of contraction? If your body feels SAFE to experience it, it’s going to feel a whole lot easier to actually choose it and to navigate it when it’s present. What does the word surge feel like in your body?

You can connect further with Jenna on her website as well as Instagram. She offers various group programs, experiences, and intimate, high-level 1:1 Liberate Mentorship. Check out the platforms listed above to see what she has coming up in her world!

S1 EP: 8 Shannon -Two Births, Rural Hospital, Induction, Caesarean, HBAC, VBAC, Homebirth, Physiological Birth, Hypnobirthing, Oral Ties.

Today we interviewed Shannon about her HBAC experience (Home Birth After Caesarean,). After experiencing a long induction (at 41+5 weeks) and the cascade of interventions in the hospital with her first birth, Shannon was labelled with "failure to progress" and ended up with an emergency caesarean.

Shannon knew she wanted a different birth experience with her second baby. Shannon found her voice and had the physiological birth she wanted at home.

The Big Birthing Question - To Push Or Not To Push?

The Big Birthing Question - To Push Or Not To Push?

What exactly is happening within the body when we try to push out baby...? This is the crux of todays conversation.

We've all seen the movies of a dramatised birth with the expectant mother straining and 'pushing' with every ounce of her being. But what exactly is going on internally?

Today I draw on my education, client experiences as well as my own personal experiences, to explore what is actually happening anatomically when we push compared to one other strategy; softening and opening.

We touch on 4 key concepts:

    • The Uterus as the primary, involuntary, 'pushing' muscle
    • The power of the poop!
    • Tuning out of your surroundings, to tune inwards and how your body is birthing baby

I also offer a 20% discount to my online self paced pregnancy and birth prep programme: "Strong Beyond The Bump". Made up of 6 modules, each with an exercise and educational birth prep component, plus a BONUS: 4th trimester, post- partum workout!

Meg's Twin Birth Story- Natural, At Home

In today's episode, Meg shares her heartwarming journey through her twin pregnancy and twin birth.  From the moment she discovered two heart beats, to her relentless campaign for a home birth, with the support of the midwives.

Meg shares her deep and passionate birth preparation journey  to be as empowered and safe as she possible could. She also shares the relentless and often challenging experience of convincing her maternity service to let her birth her babies at home, naturally.

Our Birth Stories: Hospital vs. Birth Center

Betina and Nic talk about the differences between having their first child in a hospital setting and their second in a birthing center. They discuss what Betina looked for in an obstetrician or midwife and her labor care team, how she prepared for both labors and what considerations she made to approach the process in a holistic manner. Nic shares how to be a supportive partner and how he engaged in both birthing processes. The couple reveals the drastically different birth stories of Aluna and Osa, and they close the episode with actionable items expectant and future pregnant people should consider for their own labors.

Episode 76 - Hospital Birth & Freebirth with Victoria from @freetobirth

Episode 76 - Hospital Birth & Freebirth with Victoria from @freetobirth

In this week's episode, I am chatting with the lovely Victoria from @freetobirth, who shares the stark difference between her two births. One was a planned homebirth that moved to hospital and the other was a planned homebirth that progressed to a freebirth.

Victoria candidly shares how her lack of birth preparation affected her ability to cope in her first birth experience and she also didn't understand that she could advocate for herself in the circumstances she was in and decline interventions that were offered to her.

Throughout her second pregnancy however, Victoria did a lot more research and felt more empowered to have the birth of her dreams with the support of her partner and doula.

These two very different birth experiences has led Victoria to her setting up her group 'Freetobirth', and she also offers antenatal courses to help others succeed at achieving their dream birth at home - if this is what they are planning.

    Almost a Maternal Assisted Cesarean
