The Cause of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Extreme Morning Sickness) in Pregnancy with Marlena Fejzo, PhD

Marlena Schoenberg Fejzo, PhD is a medical scientist whose research focuses on conditions and diseases that primarily affect women. As part of a team of researchers from the United States, United Kingdom and Sri Lanka, she has collected extensive evidence showing the cause of pregnancy sickness: a hormone known as GDF15.

Fejzo received a PhD in Genetics from Harvard University in 1995. Currently she works in the Center for Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Southern California and Materna Biosciences, Inc. She has published peer-reviewed scientific articles on ovarian cancer, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, and discovered the first genes associated with uterine fibroids, nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, and hyperemesis gravidarum.

Fejzo is a science advisor and board member for the Hyperemesis Education and Research Foundation, an extensive resource for patients and providers.

    Jimmy Buffett

    Jimmy Buffett

We'll edit for the moment that I think Jimmy Buffett's real missed business opportunity could have been something called Jimmy's Buffet (just trays, warmers, cheeseburgers, presumably. Margarita machines).

Admittedly, some of these episodes are excuses for us to take a ball peen hammer to the material, and there's some of that exercise here, but there are undoubtedly aspects to Buffet's ascent that defy logic and encourage chatter. There's a bit of an Austin angle to his gold strike, too.

Indeed, as incredulous as we often seem throughout this episode that we actually listened to it (with the possible exception of Mark, who made a conscious decision not to torture himself), we tend to agree that it's unusual that career rocketships launch cocktail in hand.

    Ginger for Digestion and More

    Ginger for Digestion and More

Ginger "root" has been used for thousands of years. Technically a rhizome, not a root, ginger's modern-day claim to fame is its ability to prevent the onset of nausea. Ginger is so reliable and safe that it's been studied to prevent nausea during pregnancy as well as chemo-induced nausea.  But that is just the beginning of the benefits of ginger. It can be used to support immune function and lower cardiovascular risk, among its many uses. Join Tina & Leah as they explore the most reliable ways to use ginger from a culinary and medicinal perspective.

    Medical Marijuana For Depression

    Medical Marijuana For Depression

There is plenty of research on medical marijuana for depression, particularly on the long term and short-term effects of its use. It turns out that medical marijuana may help some people who have depression; however, the views are mixed as to whether or not it can make depression worse or make depression better.

If you have been feeling a bit sad and you can’t shake it or have a lack of interest in activities of daily living, you might be suffering from depression. If this is the case, you are not alone. The World Health Organization reports that depression affects nearly 350 million people across the world.

This is an extremely common mood problem that is the leading cause of disability throughout the world. Yet many people who suffer from depression don’t get the help they really need.

Are You Unwittingly Dumping Toxic Waste Into Corporate Waterways?

Are You Unwittingly Dumping Toxic Waste Into Corporate Waterways?

🤢 You may not have soaked your audience in human waste today...but there's a good chance your words & actions have unwittingly made a few of your stakeholders nauseous in the last 24 hours.

So take a moment to dive into this conversation about the "Dave Matthews Band Chicago River incident" of August 8, 2004 and apply 5 tips from today's vomit-inducing anniversary that will help you shift your #leadership style from nauseating to energizing:

    1) Avoid Toxic Communication Dumps: From late-night, non-urgent email requests to evasive-sounding conversations filled with hollow "corporate-sounding" clichés, the easiest way to mitigate the impact of toxic communication releases is to avoid them in the first place

    2) Lay Proper Containment: If you don't stop the ripple effect of toxic rumors among your gossiping front-line leaders, it can cause far more damage than a leaking pipeline or an overflowing tank

    3) Filter and Rate Your Communications: Revisit your recent emails, meetings, phone calls, etc. and give them an emoji-based "nausea rating" from 1 to 5, where 1 nauseated face (🤢) represents minimal vomit-inducing language; 5 nauseated faces (🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢) is on par with dumping 800 pounds of human waste on an unsuspecting group of tourists; and 2 to 4 nauseated faces represent ~90% of LinkedIn posts.

    4) Translate Toxic Messages: transform corporate fluff into relevant and actionable messages BEFORE your audience starts coming up with their own (mis-)translations

    5) Clean Up Your Messes: Whether it's a band who dumps human waste into a river, an #oilandgas company who has an inadvertent release, or a manager who suffers a flare-up of foot-in-mouth disease, owning up to mishaps and rectifying them swiftly gives you a chance to avoid leaving a permanently bad taste in stakeholders' mouths.

100// End Bloating, Nausea, Constipation, and Food Confusion in 3 MONTHS with My Client Rachel

    It’s episode 100!!!

It has been a wild ride since I started this podcast in the fall of 2020, and since then - I did the math - I’ve helped over a hundred women change their lives by getting rid of their bloating, constipation, fatigue, PMS pain, insomnia, by helping them HEAL. THEIR. GUT.

So, to celebrate 100 episodes and over a hundred lives changed, I am bringing you yet ANOTHER story of a client of mine going from sick and stuck to strong and mobile.

My client, Rachel, came to me last year in chronic pain, with constant bloating, unsure about what to eat, unable to sleep, experiencing unexplained nausea, and with no answers from doctors.

In just over 3 months, we turned things around for her so that she could go out to eat with her husband and have NO anxiety, feel rested after she slept, be able to travel without pain or discomfort, and feel like she UNDERSTOOD her body again.

If you are wondering if you can heal YOUR chronic pain and bloating, constipation, or IBS symptoms, then this episode is for you!
