Episode 249: Can The Candyman Can?

The title suggests something equally sweet and horrible and art can be both. There is certainly a lot of art and artists on this week’s movie review episode. There are influencers and a photographer in the remake of She’s All That (He’s All That). The music and life of Guy Clark is featured in a new documentary (Without Getting Caught or Killed). There’s the story of a domino artist named Lily Hevesh (Lily Topples the World) and a guy who is good with numbers but bad with social interaction and fumigation (Mosquito State). But there is also another relationship on pandemic lockdown (Together) and another film about the final days of Ted Bundy (No Man of God). It’s enough to want to get away with John Cena and Lil Rel Howery (Vacation Friends). But wait, there’s more art in the tragic story of a beloved painter (Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed) and the whole damn shady world of art is exposed in a fascinating new documentary (The Lost Leonardo). Finally, there is another artist featured in Nia DaCosta’s updating of Bernard Rose & Clive Barker’s Candyman. Does the film have the right palette? Tune in and hear the opinions of Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy.

    Glass

    Glass

The stage is set! It's hero vs villain vs villain. A movie to tie Unbreakable and Split together, a movie that universally critics and audiences united to bestow a whimpering shrug, and yet... Jordan and Micah seem to think it's a masterpiece, Jordan and Micah seem to argue that it's misunderstood, Jordan and Micah are either geniuses like Mr. Glass or trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes like Ellie Staple!

    058 // Lauren Walet ❤️ Atonement // Duimpjeworstelen

"Come back to me."

    Movie Meltdown: Episode 523

As we ease back into the real world, we sit down... in the same room… and have a discussion. Weird? Sure... but we try to overcome our adopted anti-social nature and discuss just some of the things we've been watching while locked in our homes.

And as we give things a chance that we previously wouldn't have, we also bring up… Shazam, The Lodge, Guardians, the Back to the Future trilogy, The Hustler, It: Chapter 2, Unbreakable, Castle Rock, James McAvoy, The Mentalist, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Gina Carano, Wreck-it Ralph, Have a Good Trip, network TV shows operating from home, underhanded plots, Kazaam, why are his arms so huge, Stephen Colbert, a sled dog, Riley Keough, streaming services and Zoom, will I remember it… no, Bruce Willis, this guy's life is ruined, dropping acid, Taika Waititi, a Gatling gun, Lizzy Caplan, leveling the playing field, Haywire, Piper Laurie, Heaven's Gated, ripped apart by evil creatures, everything about your life is kind of a waste, the trailer does everything you need it to do, Tim Robbins, Choose Your Own Adventure, Robin Tunney, Jackie Gleason, Steven Soderbergh and a shaved Chewbacca.

“...and then that becomes a whole thing... with the undead people.”

Episode 64: - Dark Phoenix & The Farewell

Episode 64: - Dark Phoenix & The Farewell
This week in Movie News, Warner Bros. skips their normal Comic-Con announcement hall in what many are speculating is a sign of the times. Is Comic-Con starting to lose it's luster? Also, the 'Shazam' spinoff film 'Black Adam' finds a director to helm the Dwayne-The-Rock-Johnson picture, and the new X-Men film 'Dark Phoenix' under performs at the box office.

And speaking of Dark Phoenix, Andy digs into the plot and explains why the new film feels so convoluted before the guys review the issues in direction, writing, and editing that seem to plague a franchise that was once so beloved. Can X-Men come back from their last few disappointing releases, or does the series need a reboot?

On The Death of Cinema, Hollywood Reporter put out an article about just that - the problems with Dark Phoenix - and Andy and Zach have some hot sports opinions about it. Fact is, studios never seem to acknowledge that a film may just be bad, but is that the case with Dark Phoenix, or is the real trouble with Franchise Fatigue? And how is Disney going to handle it going forward, now that they own the keys to the X-Men kingdom? Lastly, Zach reveals the plot for 'The Farewell' after the guys saw it at the Oak Cliff Film Festival. The two discuss the indie nature of the Chinese-American film, and how it's internal east-meets-west debate about family and death seems to be resonating with audiences everywhere. And though the film won't have a wide-release until July, it may just be a movie worth keeping your eye on.

    Episode 25 - Dark Phoenix

It has been way to long friends....

So many questions, so many X-Men.

Who is the blue smoke guy....  and the speedy blonde guy... and Gambit?   And don't get us started on the Fantastic 4...  Four??

Did seatbelts exist in 1975?  More importantly, did people use them?

How are they breathing in space?  Where is the zero gravity?  Duct tapes works in space???  How??

Remember when Kelsey Grammer was an X-Men?

Did the X-Men story line change?  Did they go rogue?  Is that another X-Men?
