    Chinatown [1974]

Jackie and Greg take on the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for their episode on Roman Polanski's CHINATOWN. Topics of discussion include J.J. Gittes as a quintessential New Hollywood protagonist, great works by problematic artists (and whether separating the art from the artist is possible), the impeccably twisty script from Robert Towne, their personal relationships with the city of Los Angeles, and why it continues to endure as a shining example of neo-noir.

    Deep Rising (1998)

    Deep Rising (1998)

    FULL. SCREAM. AHEAD.

The crescendo of this year's Halloween mini-series - Deep Rising, where a crew of mercenaries planning to hijack a cruise ship shows up to realize something got to the ship first: a gargantuan tentacled...thing? Idk, it's not a squid and it's not an octopus. Whatever, it drinks people and that's all you need to know. Hop aboard to watch store-brand Harrison Ford and a crew of murderers consisting entirely of "Oh That Guy"'s tangle with a vicious killing machine. We're joined once again by Peter and Connor, making this yet another official episode of an unofficial podcast, No Flicks Given.

Directed by Stephen Sommers (right before he did The Mummy) and scored by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith, Deep Rising comes close to hitting that so-bad-it's-good tier of high octane thrill rides.

Happy Halloween to everybody! We hope you've enjoyed the torture we've put ourselves through watching these 90s creature features. It's all for you!
