Saltburn (2023): "So Gossip Girl Coded"

Saltburn (2023): "So Gossip Girl Coded"

Is this week a Fifth Tuesday? Is Saltburn (2023) a horror movie? Spookies, those questions are more for you than for us — but we do have a lot to say this week. Like, A LOT. Somehow, without really meaning to, we accidentally talked for almost three whole hours about Emerald Fennell’s newest film (and actually, if you count the bits that we cut out, we really talked for even longer). But, hey, if you’ve heard anything at all about the 2006-era flick starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, then you know that conversation is just one of the many things it provokes. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we’re discussing our first impressions, the Gossip Girl of it all, and that killer soundtrack, plus so (so so) much more.

Loki Season 1 Ep. 5 "Journey Into Mystery" Review

Loki Season 1 Ep. 5 "Journey Into Mystery" Review

The Fake Nerd gang is here for Fake Nerds Watch, this time diving into the brand new Disney+ show: Loki

Sacred Ben has returned from the Void. The four Fake Nerds are reunited and it's time to address the Kang in the room. Overall a positive reception with a couple dips into the quibbles that have emerged for some of the crew. Guest appearances in the show made this discussion extra fun and there's a lot to think on as Loki head towards its finale.

    Warlock: The Armageddon (w/ Tighe)

    Warlock: The Armageddon (w/ Tighe)

The coming of the Eclipse marks the end of our "Spooky Penis Season" but as the runes need collected, the druids gather the sparkly Disney juice, and a Sands is born. Yeah, that's right! We're covering one of the late Julian Sands seminal roles as the eponymous WARLOCK! As a trilogy of films, Julian Sands plays the WARLOCK in the first two movies, alongside Richard E. Grant in the original Steve Miner film and Chris Young in the Anthony Hickox sequel. This is the film that we're uncovering this time, in WARLOCK: THE ARMAGEDDON! And we brought a friend, Tighe, ready to speak over "the rudest that ever troubled daylight!" in the most congratulatory and nostalgic episode in a long while. It's a shame that not only is Julian no longer with us but within this month, Anthony, the Director, is sadly no longer with us. Rest in Peace Kings!

    Warlock (w/ Megan Sunday)

    Warlock (w/ Megan Sunday)

With the unfortunate passing of Julian Sands, we wanted to honor this incredible and magnetic actor by releasing a special Patreon episode where we covered 1989's WARLOCK with the film's #1 fan and Returning Champion Megan Sunday (Let’s Get Weirding podcast)! Along the way, we dig into the film's hostile attitude toward cats, stay on the lookout for a Steve Miner Butt Shot, learn to use a purse like a Dutch Oven, and generally lust after the hotness that is Julian Sands!! All this, plus we examine the Warlock's complicated relationship to windows, Megan opens up about the kinds of smut she enjoys reading, and Patrick finally explains what the Santa Ana winds are to Gena!! We've conjured a good one out of the Patreon vault for you today!!

    Jackie

    Jackie
We thought we'd follow up last week's lengthy labyrinth of an episode on the events of November 22, 1963 with a more quiet and graceful remembrance of the same day and its lasting after effects with 2016's Jackie. But before we take yet another stroll down the American Century's middle period...this week's Blue Plate Special finds us discussing our recent experience seeing legendary rock band Genesis early on their ongoing The Last Domino? tour before transitioning to some thoughts on Wes Anderson's latest The French Dispatch. The film of the week inevitably sparks a discussion on recent trends in biopics and period films over the past decade and how exactly Natalie Portman's brilliant performance and Larrain's icily precise direction at once subvert and compliment the very sort of myth making historical fictions have been forging for centuries. Episode 59: Emerald Fennell Interview (Space Bound After Show)

Episode 59: Emerald Fennell Interview (Space Bound After Show)

We hope you enjoyed last week’s table read of Space Bound written by Golden Globe-nominated writer/director of Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennell. We caught up with Emerald in this week’s episode to discuss her pilot and her writing process. She talked about the importance of writing redeeming characters in comedies and why she prefers writing on spec versus pitching. A lesson in attaching producers to a project and a highly anticipated dive into the space world of Beta Complex 622. If you're afraid of spoilers, you should definitely listen to the table read before this interview. But either way, enjoy Andrew's conversation with Emerald Fennell. Thanks for listening!
