36 - אני יורקת על קברך | I Spit on Your Grave | לירון סיני

Fave Fives for 2021 Episode 53: Whole Squad Pod™: The Cherry on Top of the Ice Cream

    WoHos!

This week we got together with our sweet friend, Quinn, to talk about what movies (and a TV show and a bootleg of a musical) we enjoyed watching in 2021. We also discuss some that we thought were pure trash.

    Notes:
We covered LAST ONES OUT way back in Season 1, ep  8.
We covered SUSPIRIA, 2018 in Season 3, episode 5.

I never did remember the second movie I had thought of for Quinn's fifth pick. Shrug emoji.
There are only 5, not 6 seasons of iZombie.

Content note: in the Mom & Mac & Quinn chat we discuss: cheese week, not loving this time of year, whether or not time is a flat circle, whether or not to make resolutions and hugging trees.

    Quinn's Picks
THE YOUNG POPE, THE SUMMER OF SOUL, LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, SAINT MAUD and PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE
    Mac's Picks
SPACE SWEEPERS, CANDYMAN 1992 & 2021, THE MATRIX, SPONTANEOUS, A BOOTLEG OF WAITRESS, THE MUSICAL
    Mom's Picks
THE MEDIUM, RELIC, POSSESSOR, CENSOR, WE ARE STILL HERE

    We all did not enjoy
    PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN.

Other films discussed: LICORICE PIZZA, COME TRUE, MALIGNANT, MIDNIGHT MASS, GIRLS 5EVA, SUCCESSION, HOST, TENEBRAE, POWER OF THE DOG and TOMORROW WAR.

See if you can spot the trends in our picks. Hint: One of us had religious-themed content, one of us had trans-related content and one of us had some sick psychological twisty-turny stuff.

Next time on the main episode, Mac and I will look at Season 4 of SLASHER, FLESH & BLOOD, episodes 1 - 4 and LAKE BODOM, from Finland.

Please get in touch with your fave fives from last year and what you are looking at

    Edward Scissorhands | Ep 1

    Edward Scissorhands | Ep 1
This month on Layers of Film, we discuss Tim Burton’s 1990 film Edward Scissorhands. From our favorite scenes to what the movie may be saying about society, we talk about how the music, color, and camerawork make this movie so rewatchable. Even more, we ask the questions you’ve always wanted answered: Why didn’t the townspeople check to see if Edward was actually dead? Did Jim deserve to die? And, most important, why is Peg such a horrible saleswoman? So, join your fellow mediocre humans as we discuss this masterful film, and tune in next month when we’ll be talking about the 1999 animated classic The Iron Giant. Episodes are released the first Monday of every month. Write into us at layersoffilmpod@gmail.com
