Love Interrupted My Life: Matt and Jenn Host Sister Miriam James Heidland SOLT

Love Interrupted My Life: Matt and Jenn Host Sister Miriam James Heidland SOLT
In this episode Matt and Jenn speak with Sister Miriam Heidland, former Division One college athlete whose life was revolutionized by encountering the love of Christ, resulting in her entering the Society of the Most Holy Trinity in 1998.

Sister Miriam shares her story of growing up Catholic, falling away in college, her history of trauma, brokenness, addiction and how God sent a Catholic priest who loved Jesus into her life.

Matt, Jenn and Sister Miriam reveal individual moments where they saw the Gospel lived in everyday life by those around them. Sister Miriam saw it in the priest who mentored her, Matt saw it in his friends at school, and Jenn sees it in the Unbound “family” around the world.

The trio then discuss how Satan targets our deepest areas of shame and ruptured love. Sister Miriam heralds the healing power of love, the mystery of why God allows some things to happen, and how Christ can make beauty from ashes.

Sister Miriam voices God’s kindness in the areas from which she’s been healed: addiction, depression, and an auto-immune disease that is in remission. She offers to the Lord a chronic ankle injury from which she has yet to experience healing.

For fun, Sister Miriam, Matt, and Jenn each tell of a favorite place to which they’ve traveled. Then Sister Miriam closes with a prayer, asking Jesus to have His love meet us where we most need it and asks the Lord to set our hearts on fire.

Listen to hear about the transforming power of Christ’s love.

Fearless in Babylon - Courage (Zach Thompson)

Fearless in Babylon - Courage (Zach Thompson)
In the final week of our Daniel series, Zach preaches from the passage of Daniel and the Lion's Den. As believers, how can we be like Daniel and have the courage to live for Christ, even in a culture that seems to be against Him? How can we live in a way that points others to Christ, even when life is oftentimes not fair? We can live courageously knowing that Jesus is on our side, and that nothing can separate us from His grace and love (2/5/23).

This Changes Everything - Jesus Is Mocked (Zach Thompson)

This Changes Everything - Jesus Is Mocked (Zach Thompson)
This week, Zach talks about the beating and mocking that Jesus endured before the cross. It is in this brutal punishment meant only for the worst of criminals that we find the incredible love of Jesus. That he would take our punishment so that we might walk in the freedom of life forever with Him. It’s the kind of love that changes everything for us (3/27/22).

This Changes Everything - Jesus Before Pilate (Regan Ragle)

This Changes Everything - Jesus Before Pilate (Regan Ragle)
This week, Regan preaches out of Mark 15 on the story of Jesus being handed over by Pilate to be crucified. In the midst of His trial, Jesus' shows His love, peace, and humility, especially when a murderer named Barabbas was released instead of Him. Jesus endured His torturous death out of his immense love for all sinners, and we can live with hope knowing that, no matter what we've done, His love covers all of our sins (3/20/22).

This Changes Everything - Jesus Is Tried and Abandoned (Zach Thompson)

This Changes Everything - Jesus Is Tried and Abandoned (Zach Thompson)
This week, Zach talks about the trial of Jesus before the Jewish council. This trial was unfair, full of insane accusations, and hard to read. And yet, we must come to understand that this should be our trial. And unlike Jesus, we are guilty. This week, Zach talks about how Jesus took our place and proved his love for us by defending us and forgiving us of our wrongs. (3/13/22)

John 3:16 Might Not Mean What You Think [Blog Audio]

John 3:16 Might Not Mean What You Think [Blog Audio]

John 3:16 is arguably the best known verse in the Bible. It shows up on signs, cards, posters, billboards, t-shirts and even at football games.

But could it be that for all its familiarity, we have been blinded to its meaning?

As a pastor I would stand to the side of the pulpit, stretch my arms out wide and say, “Jesus’ outstretched arms on the cross was God’s way of saying that he loves us ‘this much’ ”; giving my arms a little extra stretch for emphasis.

But is that what John 3:16 is really telling us?

Turns out that I was making the mistake that many make about the meaning of one little word – “so”.

Thankful for Our Foreshadowed King (1 Samuel 21-22)

Thankful for Our Foreshadowed King (1 Samuel 21-22)

Much of David's story serves as foreshadowing for what the Kingship of his royal heir, Jesus, would eventually look like.  It's there in everything as small as five loaves of bread, to as large as his willingness to shoulder other people's guilt.  Today, we examine ten details from the story we examined last week (David flees Saul, who murders the prophets) and find reasons to be especially thankful for Jesus.

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead if you ever intend to watch Shawshank Redemption!

Soothing the Savage Beast (1 Samuel 16:13-23)

Soothing the Savage Beast (1 Samuel 16:13-23)

In this episode, we find that David's music has the power to soothe the savage beast (King Saul).  Except, there's something deeper that brings peace, hope, purpose and strength.  Something David has, and Saul does not.  That's where the soothing happens.

We also have a lengthy discussion about mental health.  Saul is clearly suffering from some sort of mental illness, and the passage makes it clear that God is tormenting Saul with these evil spirits.  Is this how we are to understand all mental illness?  Is there a place in the Kingdom and the Body of Christ for mentally ill individuals?  Absolutely.  Join the conversation.
