    Devotional Running For The Prize

    Devotional Running For The Prize

Counting primaries, general elections, and runoffs Reverend Senator Raphael Warnock has faced the voters of Georgia five times each time winning the most votes.

Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock and are the first Democrats elected to the U.S. Senate from Georgia since Zell Miller in 2000.

Warnock is the first African American to represent Georgia in the Senate, the first Black Democratic U.S. senator elected in the South, since reconstruction and the first Black Democrat to be elected to the Senate by a former state of the Confederacy.

1st Corinthians 9:24 reminds us that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize.  On Tuesday Raphael Warnock will complete in the last lap of his latest race. Running against a walker that was at one time a great runner.

1st Corinthians 9:24 further reminds us that we are to run in such a way as to get the prize.  Reverend Warnock has run not only to gain the prize he has run in such a way that his superior competence, capability, and character are on full display versus that walker that used to be a runner.

Tuesday’s runoff election day voting will be the last lap in the race for us as well. If we are to win the prize, we must vote.  If you have voted early thank you. If have not well Tuesday is your last opportunity to finish the last lap.  Remember 1st Corinthians 9:24 reminds us that in a race all runners run, in a race all runners compete, but in the race only one runner gets the prize. On Tuesday, let’s race, On Tuesday let’s run, On Tuesday let’s win the prize.

The Senate is pretty old. That could change.

The Senate is pretty old. That could change.
This Senate is the oldest in American history. But a surge of Millennial candidates could change that after the 2022 midterms. POLITICO’s James Arkin reports. Plus, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra says his vaccine comments are being taken “wildly out of context.” And Harris announces a $25 million expansion of the DNC’s voting campaign. James Arkin is a campaigns reporter for POLITICO. Jeremy Siegel is a host for POLITICO Dispatch. Irene Noguchi is the executive producer of POLITICO audio. Jenny Ament is the senior producer of POLITICO audio. Raghu Manavalan is a senior editor for POLITICO audio. Read more: The geriatric Senate confronts a youth movement

A Republican push to restrict voting

A Republican push to restrict voting
If you can’t win, change the rules of the game. That appears to be the rule state Republicans are following across the country in the aftermath of Trump’s loss, as they push for new voting restriction laws. POLITICO’s Zach Montellaro reports on how Georgia is leading the effort. Plus, Biden health officials are hopeful vaccine supply problems will ease in March. And the Kremlin criticizes the U.S. for expressing support for Russian protesters. Zach Montellaro is a campaign reporter for POLITICO and author of the Morning Score newsletter. Jeremy Siegel is a host for POLITICO Dispatch. Irene Noguchi is the executive producer of POLITICO audio. Jenny Ament is the senior producer of POLITICO audio. Lanhee Chen: The Conservative Agenda After the Loss of Georgia Senate Seats

Lanhee Chen: The Conservative Agenda After the Loss of Georgia Senate Seats

Democrats will be in control of both houses of Congress, and the White House, after Joe Biden is inaugurated on January 20th and Georgia’s two new United States Senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, take their seats later this month.

Republicans have suffered a number of electoral setbacks—not only did they lose control of the White House, but they’ll be in the minority in both houses of Congress for the first time in a decade.

Looking ahead, Republicans will need to remain united to defeat efforts to move policy in America further to the progressive left. And they’ll need to present a compelling vision for what they’ll do if given the opportunity to govern again. The conservative movement has traditionally stood for economic opportunity, personal freedom, a strong national defense, and the value of human life. These are values that many of our fellow Americans share and should be the backbone of efforts by conservatives to lead, once again.

S2E2: Beach Talk #16 with Carla - Georgia, The Capitol and the Inauguration

S2E2: Beach Talk #16 with Carla - Georgia, The Capitol and the Inauguration

In Beach Talk #16, Ken and Carla find themselves next to a natural gas fire pit on the deck of a decadent house in Newport Beach overlooking the blue Pacific. They review a wonderful/terrible week in the headlines - Presidential conversations with the Georgia Secretary of State, the run-off election that resulted in the Wornach and Ossoff victories, and then the day (Wednesday, January 6, 2021) that will "live in infamy," first on the floor of Congress in joint session to count electoral votes and then the reckless storming of the Capitol building of flag-waving, red hats, toting Bibles in a failed attempt to thwart the will of the people with force. Ken ends the podcast with a reflection on calls for the President to step down - voluntarily or involuntarily - and the role of evangelicals, their scapegoating of Antifa, and their fixation on "the Trump victory," on the day's events.

The Georgia Senate Races with Amol Naik

The Georgia Senate Races with Amol Naik

I dive into the details of the Georgia Senate runoff elections with my friend and public policy lawyer with Squire Patton Boggs, Amol Naik.

Amol served as the Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Atlanta, where he reported directly to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and served as a member of her Cabinet, with responsibility for Atlanta’s efforts on sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and smart cities technology.  Prior to joining the administration, Amol served on the Mayor’s Transition team, leading its efforts on ethics and transparency reform.

Additionally, Amol was a Mayoral appointee to the Atlanta Regional Commission. The Atlanta Business Chronicle has selected him as a 40 under 40 honoree, and the Daily Report designated him as one of the top 10 lawyers under 40 in Georgia.

From basic questions about the Senate races in Georgia to his insight into election laws and his experience recounting votes, we talk about it all. He discusses the candidates in more detail, how each party has positioned itself, and what effect "Trumpism" will have on this election.
