UFC 292 Recap! Round-Up with Paul Felder & Michael Chiesa

UFC 292 Recap! Round-Up with Paul Felder & Michael Chiesa

Paul Felder and Michael Chiesa are back at it again on this episode of UFC Round-Up!

To start off the show, the guys give their initial thoughts and takeaways from this past Saturday’s UFC 292 PPV, including Sean O’Malley defeating Aljamain Sterling by 2nd-round TKO to win the bantamweight belt. The pair also give a shoutout to Sean O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch. Following that, the duo hit on the co-main event, where Zhang Weili dominated Amanda Lemos in an unanimous decision victory to defend the women’s strawweight belt. Next, the guys discuss welterweight Ian Machado Garry’s pre-fight and press conference antics leading up to his fight against Neil Magny, a fight in which Garry won by unanimous decision.

Then, the duo answer 5 rounds of fan questions.

    1.      What does Aljo’s loss mean for Merab Dvalishvili? Will we see him and Cory Sandhagen in a title eliminator match?

    2.      Do you see this TKO over Aljo going down in history as an Aldo vs. McGregor type moment? If so, do you think this will catapult Sean into the same spotlight that Conor was once in?

    3.      Only in steakhouses where the chef’s specialty is veal have I seen such punishment to a calf as we saw in the Ian Machado Garry vs. Neil Magny fight. What’s one fight where you feel your team game planned perfectly and describe the emotions of the plan working in the moment?

    4.      Now that our homeboy Brad Katona is the toughest of them all again, who do you see him fighting next in the rankings?

    5.      Final cannoli count and if the cannoli shell was flat and you put the filling between the two of them, would you now call that a sandwich or a cannoli?

To wrap up the show, the guys preview this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie main event, as featherweight Max Holloway takes on Chan Sung Jung.

TENGRIDOME, Episode 31: Pettis vs. Horiguchi, Font vs. Aldo, COW vs. GOAT
Our hero once again had to take a bit of a break to recover from a horrific hangover after an equally horrific binge but it had the dubious benefit of letting him formulate a bunch of thoughts in the wake of all the buzz surrounding last week's weekend of fights. In this week's TENGRIDOME Iggy recaps Pettis vs. Horiguchi and Font vs. Aldo, and deconstructs some of the fan discourse surrounding the fights — namely, the omnipresent GOAT talk and how almost every instance of it devolves into a pissing contest. On second thought maybe he's not recovered from the hangover at all. He breaks down the fights round-by-round and gives context on the official scoring criteria outlined in the Unified Rules of MMA. In this episode, Ed breaks down the scoring of Jose Aldo's controversial bantamweight debut vs. Marlon Moraes. Was this a bad call, a close competitive fight that could have gone either way, or plainly a good decision? TENGRIDOME, Episode 14: Fighter Personalities and Fighting Styles feat. Connor Ruebusch

TENGRIDOME, Episode 14: Fighter Personalities and Fighting Styles feat. Connor Ruebusch
TENGRIDOME is back! This time Iggy is joined by Connor Ruebusch, the host of Heavy Hands, to discuss fighter personalities and their connection to fighting styles. This discussion was prompted by the following question from the Fight Site discord patron Smesh: "How much does a person's personality affect their fighting style and are there any clear examples of someone fighting entirely against who they are?" Connor introduces his pet theory that all fighters are secretly driven by their insecurities, and both Iggy and Connor do their best to examine this idea from multiple angles, pointing out the dangers of engaging in too much armchair psychology, and the inherent impossibility of being 100% objective when evaluating fighters.
