    Summer of the 80s, Part 6: 1985 & 1986 - Stuart Gordon's H.P. Lovecraft (Re-Animator & From Beyond)

Two years in one episode! Well, it really does make sense. You'll see.

First, director Stuart Gordon brings us some morbid, deadpan humor, based on the work of H. P. Lovecraft.  And let me tell you, Jeffrey Combs is absolute perfection as Herbert West. Who would have thought that bringing corpses, and decapitated heads, back to life, would be so amusing? And how about that green color of the re-agent serum? Can I paint a room that color, please? Oh, yeah. We're talking about Re-Animator (1985), here.

Then from there, Stuart Gordon is back! And so is H.P. Lovecraft! And Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton from Re-Animator! It's like a family reunion with all of your favorites. But they've brought along the resonator. A device that stimulates the pineal gland. To the point where it just might burst out of the forehead of someone who has had a little too much stimulation. And let me tell you something else, it's not a pretty sight. It's like something, From Beyond (1986)!

And of course, it wouldn't be the Summer of the 80s without Common Craig's Top 5 horrors from 1985 and 1986!

    A hidden gem: Death Spa

    A hidden gem: Death Spa

In this week’s episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss the 1988 fitness-themed supernatural slasher, the “tubiest” of Tubi movies, Death Spa! The debut role of Hilary Banks from Fresh Prince! One of the greatest cheaply-made neon signs you’ve ever seen! A deeply unsympathetic lead who recklessly disregards his temporarily blind girlfriend! An unresolved infidelity mystery! Wildly chaotic and imaginative death scenes, along with an incredible soundtrack and striking visuals that today’s 80’s-obsessed filmmakers wish they could recreate! Were you looking for a good excuse to not go to the gym? This may be it!

In addition, Matt finally saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and doesn’t seem to think its strengths can overcome the MCU fatigue.

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIPT Movies crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter @AIPTmoviesPod.

Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead

Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead
Calling all ghosts, goblins, ghouls, and goodhearted scaredy cats! Overlapping Dialogue's 2nd annual Spooktober Spooktacular kicks off with a horror duology as iconic as they come: Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, George Romero's prescient codas on the decaying state of human flesh and the, you know, larger state of humanity. But before we devour those, join us for a discussion of a twisted modern day pairing in Don't Worry Darling and Blonde, new releases that have generated a great deal of debate and controversy in their own right. Our inevitable breakdown of Romero's zombie classics prompts us to talk about the sociopolitical contexts in which these films were made, admire how their director found novel ways to continually resurrect all things undead, and just get giddy reflecting on the sights and sounds inherent to a rowdy biker gang running riot on a zombie horde in an abandoned suburban mall. This episode represents a new format and era for Overlapping Dialogue, sans audio commentary, with a focus on simply ruminating on and having fun communing over the latest double feature in question. We hope you have as much joy listening as we had recording it, whether it's your first time or first time in a long time. Who know, if you stick around till the very end, you might hear us offer up some takes on a certain monster-themed breakfast cereal... Episode 003 — 'From Beyond'

In the latest episode of 'Rewind of the Living Dead,' we take a look back at director Stuart Gordon's second feature film titled 'From Beyond" based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Does this horror movie still stand the test of time?

    166. The Dentist (1996)

    166. The Dentist (1996)

Going to the dentist is already not a great experience for a lot of people. When your dentist has just found out his wife is cheating on him and starts a bit of a psychotic break, well it's still not fun, but it certainly becomes quite the entertaining movie for the Squirms! Spurred on by a request, this week the Squirms check out The Dentist, a movie they haven't seen in years. So how does this Corbin Bernsen led film hold up?

    156. From Beyond (1986)

    156. From Beyond (1986)

Once upon a time, we started this podcast by reviewing Re-Animator because in it Stuart Gordon set a mood that we try to carry throughout the overall feel of this show. Although we have touched on his work since, Mr. Gordon's passing has the boys wanting to pay tribute the best way they know how, and that's to return to his cult classics and take on From Beyond! Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton return, as well as the Lovecraftian inspiration, so you can probably guess if the Squirms like it or not, but listen in to hear all they have to say and send off a true horror master, Stuart Gordon!

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990)

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990)

What better way to ring in 2020 than by getting "Buzzed" by an in-depth look into the often forgotten slasher, Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III with a special introduction from the film's star, William Butler. That in of itself would be an awesome way to start off the new year but we also have a full length interview with "The Bad Boy of Production Design" Mick Strawn. As always, Mick spins some hilarious yarns about his time spent on the sets of Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Austin Powers and a can't miss story about Wesley Snipes during the filming of Blade.
This Double Fright Feature cannot be missed.

After a raid on the rural home of the psychopathic Firefly family, two members of the clan, Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), manage to flee the scene. Heading to a remote desert motel, the killers reunite with Baby's father, Capt. Spaulding (Sid Haig), who is equally demented and intent on maintaining their murder spree. While the trio continues to torment and kill various victims, the vengeful Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe) slowly closes in on them.
