    Shocktober: Bram Stoker’s Dracula

In the season 3 premiere of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt give their first spooky season viewing recommendation, Francis Ford Coppola’s love letter to classic gothic horror, Bram Stoker’s Dracula!

Intense drama and doomed romance! Surprisingly horned up characters! A stacked cast that includes Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Cary Elwes, Richard E. Grant, Sadie Frost, Tom Waits, and a charmingly miscast Keanu Reeves! Iconic use of shadow gags! An unstoppable juggernaut of old-school VFX, stunning creature makeup, and impeccable costume design! Beautiful, colorful cinematography! All around expert craft that truly makes this a “filmmaker’s film!”

In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on his favorites from this year’s Fantastic Fest: The Toxic Anger remake, Strange Darling, Suitable Flesh, V/H/S/85, and Totally Killer!

    Episode 98 - Re-Animator (1985)

    Episode 98 - Re-Animator (1985)

Welcome to the Horror Project Podcast. Join hosts Phil and Laura as they review Re-Animator (1985).

This week we are firmly in the realm of Frankenstein / mad scientist territory, with Jeffrey Combs’ reanimating reagent causing absolute mayhem!

We discuss our own lack of scientific knowledge. The greatest cat-battle ever seen, with the tragic Rufus. Plus the hallmark’s of 80s-horror with extreme gore and nudity, but does Re-Animator take things a little too far?

We shall also find a place on the leaderboard for the movie during our Ranking.

We hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening!

    Summer of the 80s, Part 6: 1985 & 1986 - Stuart Gordon's H.P. Lovecraft (Re-Animator & From Beyond)

    Summer of the 80s, Part 6: 1985 & 1986 - Stuart Gordon's H.P. Lovecraft (Re-Animator & From Beyond)

Two years in one episode! Well, it really does make sense. You'll see.

First, director Stuart Gordon brings us some morbid, deadpan humor, based on the work of H. P. Lovecraft.  And let me tell you, Jeffrey Combs is absolute perfection as Herbert West. Who would have thought that bringing corpses, and decapitated heads, back to life, would be so amusing? And how about that green color of the re-agent serum? Can I paint a room that color, please? Oh, yeah. We're talking about Re-Animator (1985), here.

Then from there, Stuart Gordon is back! And so is H.P. Lovecraft! And Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton from Re-Animator! It's like a family reunion with all of your favorites. But they've brought along the resonator. A device that stimulates the pineal gland. To the point where it just might burst out of the forehead of someone who has had a little too much stimulation. And let me tell you something else, it's not a pretty sight. It's like something, From Beyond (1986)!

And of course, it wouldn't be the Summer of the 80s without Common Craig's Top 5 horrors from 1985 and 1986!

Beyond Re-Animator (w/ Josh Martin of Uncomfortable Brunch)

As you can see, we sadly had to skip Bride of Re-Animator (1989) (no male nudity), but we pick right up 13 years later with Beyond Re-Animator (2003), this time helmed by the great Brian Yuzna! We didn't think there would be a lot to say about this film, simply because it's not amazing, but we were wrong. Animatronic rats, dancing penises, and nanoplasms intermingle to provide an adequately amusing finale to the Re-Animator series. Joined, once again, by Josh Martin of Uncomfortable Brunch and Orlando Pop Up Movie Services, we are ready to tango.

Re-Animator (w/ Josh Martin and Tighe Arnold)

Re-Animator (w/ Josh Martin and Tighe Arnold)

We are joined, not only by friend of the podcast Josh Martin (of Uncomfortable Brunch and Orlando Pop Up Movie Services), but also by man-about-town Tighe Arnold, to discuss an absolute favorite: Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator (1985). Produced by the interminable Brian Yuzna, this is where a tag team becomes a real friendship. You know Laura loves a good friendship story, which means she also gets to talk about the friendship between Herbert West and Dan Cane. Love a good bromance. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the second selection of Spooky Penis Season (or as Josh so aptly calls it "Cocktoberfest").

    "Fuck you, butthead!"

It's a double feature on this episode, as Tom and Mikey discuss Pascal Laugier's Martyrs and Brian Yuzna's Society. Despite the films containing dark underworlds and horrific body mutations, they couldn't be any more different.

    #038 - AMPHIBIOUS 3D (2010)

    #038 - AMPHIBIOUS 3D (2010)
    LETZTER AUSWEG: BRENNSPIRITUS!

    Society (1989): "Eat The Rich"

    Society (1989): "Eat The Rich"

Interested in the weirdest class conscious, body horror flick you’ve probably never heard of??? This week, we’re taking on Society, a 1989 film from Brian Yuzna about a teenage boy growing up in a family he can’t quite relate to. But it’s not just a movie about feeling out of place, trusting your gut, and eating the rich, it’s also packed with front butt moments, gross red goo, and tiny blonde hairballs. There’s a LOT to unpack here — and we’re doing it all on a new Spooky Tuesday.
