Folge 1167: CRIMES OF THE FUTURE - Ins eigene Fleisch geschnitten

Folge 1167: CRIMES OF THE FUTURE - Ins eigene Fleisch geschnitten
Was bedeutet die Selbstverstümmelung, was bedeuten die Mutationen?

Episode 175: Crimes of the Future Special Edition

Episode 175: Crimes of the Future Special Edition

***SPOILER WARNING! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS, WE WILL DISCUSS EVERY DISGUTING DETAIL OF THE MOVIE***

The announcement that David Cronenberg was returning to science-fiction body horror was met with a mix of excitement and trepidation. There is no doubting that he is one of the most influential directors of all time. His influence can be found in a number of movies. Still, it has been a while since he has made one of these types of movies. Is Crimes of the Future his triumphant return or a relic of the past?

The movie is about a performance artist named Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and her partner Caprice (Lea Seydoux). The pair use their performances to showcase changes in the human body. They soon get caught up in a mystery that includes government conspiracies and murder.

Cronenberg films have always contained a heavy dose of sexuality and Crimes of the Future is no different. In this case, surgery and sex are a running theme. "Surgery is the new sex" is a great nu-metal lyric, but how well did it work in this movie? Do things go too far?

The other big selling point for the film was the return to body horror. Based on still shots and trailers, there was a lot of freaky stuff going on. Earman alone is enough body horror for some. Does Crimes of the Future live up to fan expectations? And what will people who have heard of Cronenberg's work think?

Crimes of the Future is about more than sex, surgery, and grossing audiences out. There is a surprisingly grounded story here. The question becomes, is it too down to earth? Should the plot have taken a more fantastic slant? We also discuss how well the mystery worked and the if the futuristic setting seemed dated.

    On the show today...

Kevin Spacey has responded to the multiple charges of sexual assault filed against him in the United Kingdom last week.

And Kristen Stewart’s latest movie is making headlines, but not for the reason you’d think. As reports surface about people walking out of Cannes’ Crimes of the Future screening, we unpack the actor’s comments about the film and consider whether this is the greatest accidental marketing they could’ve asked for.

Plus, you may have seen headlines involving pop stars like Halsey and record label demands for viral content on TikTok. Today, Halsey’s label has announced a settlement, but people are still cynically wondering if the entire thing was a very meta form of advertising. So, what’s up with these artists and their new war against the social media giant? And is any of it actually real?

Emergency Episode: You'd better hold on tight, spidermonkey... | The Twilight Saga

For some reason about a month ago I decided to watch Twilight and inadvertently watched the whole saga. Now I knew I was definitely late to the game and I wanted to gab about it with my two friends Jules and Charles. This quickly devolved into a pretty unhinged long convo all about our problems with Bella's character, the endless problematic things Edward does, question the reason of Jacob at all, and the bomb soundtracks.

Off topic rants include: the Johnny vs. Amber trial, dog walking injuries, Ann Rice, and Twilight TikTok

You Need Neptune to Win an Oscar (The Astrology of the Academy Award Nominees)

You Need Neptune to Win an Oscar (The Astrology of the Academy Award Nominees)

In this week's episode, we take a look at the birth charts of the five men and women nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress at this Sunday's Academy Awards. We wanted to see if Andrew Garfield, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Benedict Cumberbatch, Javier Bardem, Jessica Chastain, Olivia Coleman, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, and Nicole Kidman all had something in common astrologically. No surprise, Neptune plays a heavy hand in making an actor Oscar worthy. We also found some interesting trends involving Venus and Pluto.

We also did comparison charts between Andrew Garfield/Jonathan Larson, Will Smith/Richard Williams, Javier Bardem/Desi Arnaz, Jessica Chastain/Tammy Faye Bakker, Kristen Stewart/Princess Diana and, Nicole Kidman/Lucille Ball to see what they have in common. We wanted to know if they were possibly drawn to the roles they are nominated for because the share placements or aspects.

Finally, we looked back at the past 20 years of winners for Best Actor and Best Actress to see if there were any trends astrologically between the winners. We found out the actors were all very Mercurial and the actresses were very Venusian. Plus, the women who won Oscars for Best Actress tend to has hard aspects to the Moon or their Moon aspects a malefic. Using that knowledge, we make predictions as to who we think will win at this Sunday's Academy Awards.

A putative thriller in which Dorff On Golf somehow manages to haul a dead pony into a swimming pool, our "city slicker" hero tries to charm the psychotic locals with Brandy Alexanders, children have eyeteeth the size of quarters, and a cemetery is added to the kids' chore wheel, Cold Creek Manor is mostly bad -- but at least Dennis Quaid doesn't make it any worse, so while you're fleeing the godless city for Sling Blade-on-Hudson, cue up an all-new Quaid In Full.
