Greg Moore: I survived Bill Gothard: A personal review of Shiny Happy People

Greg Moore: I survived Bill Gothard: A personal review of Shiny Happy People

This week Greg sat down and reviewed the documentary "Shiny Happy People", based on the Duggars and their use of the Bill Gothard curriculum. Greg's parents used Bill Gothard's text books and was part of ATI (Advanced Training  Institute) for the first few years of their homeschooling. Greg talks about his personal experience being under legalistic church leadership that used and endorsed Bill Gothard, and even had him visit their church for training. Enjoy!

    Are Apostolic Pentecostals Legalists?

    Are Apostolic Pentecostals Legalists?

Some critics accuse Apostolic Pentecostals of being "legalistic" because of our insistence on water baptism in Jesus' name and our pursuit of personal holiness. Is this accusation warranted? UPCI General Superintendent Dr. David K. Bernard responds to this charge with a defense of Apostolic Pentecostal teachings on both salvation and holiness.

For further study, see Dr. Bernard's book Practical Holiness: A Second Look, available at PentecostalPublishing.com.

    Improper Thanksgiving

    Improper Thanksgiving

With all the swirling thanksgiving emails, tweets, reels, Hallmark cards, and sermons, you'd think if we don't give thanks rightly, we will be putting ourselves in the crosshairs of God's judgment. But what if giving thanks isn't about giving thanks, but about reveling in and enjoying the gift we've received? We love holding things over our heads. But, that's something we can be freed from.

Check out my thoughts on how we get thanksgiving wrong and end up nullifying the very thing we're thankful for. In an effort to show we're really serious, we instead show that we're seriously mistaken about how to receive the gift of life in Christ in good faith. Good News for me, you and everyone else. Happy Thanksgiving!

Legalism steals the joy of an obedient heart, while holiness through proper understanding not only brings the Joy but it protects as well. Listen in to learn more about this very important topic of being set free in the thrill of being holy...

    Galatians 2:1-5 "Fighting Legalistic Espionage"

    Galatians 2:1-5 "Fighting Legalistic Espionage"

God's law is good and is effectual in its purpose of both revealing the character and holiness of God as well as diagnosing the sinfulness of man. In this text, Paul is fighting against the notion that the keeping of the law is a necessary part of salvation for the Gentile. Paul was willing to fight against the false teachers and the bondage their message would bring. The message he defended is that the gospel is by grace through faith alone; so should we!

Holiness - Legalism or Holy Conviction? - Audio

Holiness - Legalism or Holy Conviction? - Audio
Pastor Mike answers some questions this morning in regards to living a Holy Life. Is it as a result of a Legalistic approach or is it through Holy Conviction? Is there a difference? The first question may be is it necessary to live a holy life or does God accept us as we are? What does God's Word say about obedience and love? Many questions are discussed and answers provided as we look into God's Holy Word.

FAQ: What is Legalism and Why is it Dangerous (Part 1)

FAQ: What is Legalism and Why is it Dangerous (Part 1)

Believers have a tendency to become self-righteous at times and self-indulgent at others. This first lesson will explore the motivations for legalism and some of the signs to look for in our own lives that reveal our legalistic tendencies. The hope is that as we look at the Pharisees, we will examine our own hearts and lives to expose the little legalist in each of us.
