MARC GOLDE: the latest out of Rock Garden Studio and the history of recorded music

Marc Golde of Rock Garden Studio is here to teach us some history. No, not the tripe you learned in school, but the important stuff like the history of recorded music. Being a studio owner and a fan of vintage recording, Marc knows a thing or two about how all of this developed over time. He's donning his professor's hat and giving us a very interesting and entertaining lesson which we're sure you'll learn something from. We also talk about some of the latest recording projects produced at Rock Garden Studio and we pick apart the new Beatles single, "Now And Then."

    Day Drinking Guitars Baguettes

    Day Drinking Guitars Baguettes
The guys debate which famous musician they would bring back from the dead. John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix are top of Jeremy's list. Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens would have achieved musical greatness in Jeremy's opinion. Stevie Ray Vaughn might have gone more jazz than blues. Jason ponders if there would have eventually been a "Jimi." Guitarist Cornell Dupree sets the vibe and Jeremy gives a Motown and R&B guitar lesson. The real meaning of "Bless your heart" Les Paul and his way too expensive 59's guitars. What is the Mona Lisa painting worth. Baguettes and wine are the topic du juor. Musical bucketlists and Brian Setzer. The brilliance of Joe Passe and Tommy Emmanuel. Jason has a fear of recording a solo album. New segment called What The Kids Are Listening To.

Dave Rusan was a young guitar tech - who'd never made a guitar before...in 1983 Prince needed one for a new movie he was making. Join us for pt 1 as Dave auditions for Prince's band and feels exhilarated by his chance to be part of music history.

Tim Houlihan - Change Behavior with this Simple Framework

Tim Houlihan - Change Behavior with this Simple Framework

    Tune in to hear:

    - If Tim could personify himself as a guitar, what type of guitar would he be?

    - Tim thinks that engagement, performance and persuasion all begin with behavioral science and that behavioral science begins with the unconscious. What does this mean from a scientific perspective and how can we tap into these unconscious motivations?

    - The unconscious is pretty intensely guarded, and sometimes for good reason - how can we push through this and access information below the deck that is useful for behavioral change?

    - What is the EAST framework for thinking and what does this acronym stand for?

    - What does Tim consider to be the three keys to making something easy?

    - Sometimes needlessly complicating a process can lead people to esteem it more highly - how can we decipher when this principle is going to be more persuasive or if ease will be more persuasive?

    - How do we make something like finance, which is so fear inducing, more attractive to people?

    - How can we use social cues to help herd people in a positive direction rather than one with selfish or malicious intent?

    - How can we make our behavioral interventions more timely?

Braves Country - Richard Brent - The Big House Museum

On this week’s episode of Braves Country, we focus on The Allman Brothers Band and the Big House Museum in historic Macon, Georgia!

In 1969 the Allman Brothers Band, as the founders of what became known as Southern Rock, changed the course of popular American music and turned Macon into the recording hot bed of the '70s.

The band was formed by brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar and lead guitar) & Gregg Allman (vocals, organ, songwriting), Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jaimoe (drums).

The Big House Museum is an amazing place to visit! It was the house where members of the band, crew, friends and families lived until 1973. It was the gathering place in those early years when the magic that is the Allman Brothers Band was beginning to take shape…
And to here to discuss the Allman Brothers and the Big House, today we're joined by the Director of The Big House Museum, Mr. Richard Brent!  Welcome to the Braves Country Podcast!

Even Blake’s facial hair is discussed. Riveting.

289 - How do you practice guitar and getting ready for a new decade

Brian and Blake are back for an all new episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

As 2019 comes to an end the guys look back on the history of the Chasing Tone podcast and look ahead at what the next decade holds for the podcast and guitar gear.

Another Tone group question sparks another great conversation about effective ways to practice guitar. There are some interesting techniques. They also talk about a guitar hero who practices 12 hours a day.

And if you have any holiday spirit left in your little Who hearts could you help Brian meet a small personal goal before years end? If you have not done so, could you subscribe to the Wampler YouTube channel? Think of it as a way to send a late Christmas present to your favorite pedal guy from Indiana.

A JHS leak? Friendship shoes, and Blake, here’s your sign. All in this week’s Chasing Tone Podcast.

288 - Getting Started in Guitar Gear Culture

288 - Getting Started in Guitar Gear Culture

Brian welcomes Blake back for an all new episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

A simple question from a presumably new guitarist sparked an interesting conversation about how we all had to start somewhere. While some info in the gear world can seem old hat to the veteran tone chasers, we have to remember what it was like for all of us in the beginning. The guys expand on the concept.

Blake’s been on the mend and been unable to enjoy some new gear. He finally got his hands on a new Satellite Adam Amp that has all the tone he has been looking for. Brian also got some new gear from JHS. He talks about the Colourbox and his thoughts on it.

Components. Does the size of a transformer in an amp make a difference one way or the other? Do cloth wires sound better than standard wiring? Is hand wired gear better than machine produced circuit boards? Opinions are shared.

Brace yourselves, Winter NAMM is coming, Weather Apps and health warnings, and Brian goes in full "ok boomer" mode. All in this week’s Chasing Tone Podcast.

287 - A visit with Travis Feaster and "rules" for playing on stage

Brian welcomes back Travis Feaster for an all new episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

Philipe Herndon put out four rules for any guitarist playing on stage. The guys discuss their feelings about the rules and even add a couple of their own.

And Wampler Tone Page regular Niq Scott posted a question about “Pedal Platform” Amps. This leads to a discussion about finding your clean tone on an amp that works best for you. The differences of opinions are very interesting.

Compression. Do you use it? Travis doesn’t use it while Brian uses multiple compressors. Is it a difference in taste or is it driven by styles? The guys sort through it.

The Wampler diet plan, Christmas cookies, and Travis’s thoughts on the Terraform. All in this week’s Chasing Tone Podcast.

    286 - A visit with Hayden Baker

Hayden Baker is an up and coming artist out of Texas that has grabbed Brad Paisley’s attention and is making some noise in the music world. He discuss how it all began, his gear preferences and how he met Brian for the first time. They also discuss what it takes to build a following from the ground up as an artist.

285 - Trash Cat Pedals, New Mics and Overpriced used pedals

Brian is joined by Blake for another episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

Trash Cat Pedals is a new start up on Etsy. That sparked a conversation about what it takes to start up a company and how to effectively market yourself. In this world it is all about content creation and being real with your audience. The guys talk about it.

Apparently there is a Black ’65 available on eBay for a cool $1600. And to add to the “mystery” is the title for the listing. A “One Puller” pedal? That phrase shows up in quite a few other listings as well. The guys talk about the reasons you should NOT pay $1600 for a Black ’65 and what may be driving those kind of prices.

Blake’s new microphone, 5g Technology, vacation planning, and Wampler Austrailia?  It’s all in this week’s episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

284 - Trails, MIDI and Neural link in guitar gear

Brian and Blake are back with another episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

On some delay/reverb pedal it is not uncommon to lose the trail effect when you switch the pedal off. This raised the question why do delay/reverb pedals need a buffered bypass for trails? Brian gives some insight into what is really going on.

Musical Instrument Digital Interface, or MIDI, is a versatile tool that has been around for some time. Blake dove in to learning what it can do and is amazed by the depths of control that MIDI brings and what it can do for the guitar gear world. The guys talk about it.

Neural link technology, “they” are listening, and Brian tries not to burn his house down.  It’s all in this week’s episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

283 - A Tele Obsession, Multi-scale guitars and the Terraform

Brian and Blake are back with another episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.

So Blake was loaned a multi-scale guitar by Jaymar Guitars. This lead to a discussion about tele’s, benders and Brian’s obsession with the telecaster. The guys also discuss what a multi-scale guitar actually is.

Fender did a study and discovered 90% of new guitarists abandon the instrument in the first year. Brian and Blake discuss some of the nuances behind this discovery.

Some wondered if it was really going to come out. Some people even pondered the idea that it was not even real. But finally, the Terraform has hit the market. The guys celebrate the accomplishment.

Blake needs a bender, Bill Murray, and The Matrix V2?  It’s all in this week’s episode of the Chasing Tone podcast.
