YBM - Episode 004 - Blind Success: Mark's Unforeseen Path to Entrepreneurship

YBM - Episode 004 - Blind Success: Mark's Unforeseen Path to Entrepreneurship

The podcast episode is from "Young Business Minds," a show dedicated to helping young entrepreneurs understand the fundamentals of business. The guest for this episode is Mark Bentz, an entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in business. Mark is a registered massage therapist, the owner of multiple clinics in Vancouver, a speaker, a Paralympian, and the founder of Electra Health and Pro Stretch Canada. He also recently became a trainer with Tony Robbins, which is a significant part of his life.

Mark was introduced to the hosts at a Tony Robbins event where they were helping the youth. In the podcast, he was asked to share his journey, which resonated strongly with the youth group attending the event.

One of the topics addressed during the podcast is what it means to own a massage clinic. Mark explains that massage therapy is the application of manual therapy to the body, similar to what physiotherapists or chiropractors do. Their work involves using their hands to create change in the body through different manipulations, movements, and stretching. People usually seek their services due to back pain, headaches, sciatica, or some type of sports injury.

Mark also shares that he became interested in massage therapy in his twenties, around the time he was losing his vision, a challenge he's been dealing with all his life. Despite this challenge, Mark had always been an entrepreneur and was studying kinesiology and marketing advertising in college. His struggle was figuring out how to manage being visually impaired while running a business in a sighted world.

"Take Back Time" pt. 2 - Guest Chad Hale

"Take Back Time" pt. 2 - Guest Chad Hale

Veteran Chad Hale picks up his story after he joined the military instead of choosing prison. Chad explains life in the Army as well as after the military, his time in a government job, and how PTSD continues to create havoc in veterans' lives once out of the military. Though he was working in beautiful Hawaii, he eventually had to leave that life behind and restart in East Texas, finally putting his health and wellness first, in a new way. Utilizing yoga and meditation, and a new diet, Chad was able to find a new side to himself.

From Internment Camps to COVID: The Value of Preserving Missoula County's History

From Internment Camps to COVID: The Value of Preserving Missoula County's History

Matt Lautzenheiser, executive director of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula, explains the importance of history and how it has shaped the culture in Missoula and the country. Making history relatable from one human’s perspective to another, the museum works hard to help educate about Missoula County and preserve the historical gems that give meaning to this place we call home.

Matt explains how the museum decides what to memorialize and how that has shifted over time as cultures and lifestyles have evolved. He shares lessons learned from the internment camp, what it’s like to run a museum during COVID-19 and how all this good work is a part of Missoula County government.

There’s also exciting news about a grant award that will help rebuild and restore two WWII Internment barracks on the museum grounds. The grant, paired with community donations, will help the museum continue to tell the story of the 1,200 non-military Italian men, 1,000 Japanese resident aliens, 23 German resident aliens and 123 Japanese Latin and South Americans who were sent to Fort Missoula during WWII. The funding will also help the museum expand, which will provide additional space for the museum to preserve their artifact collections.

The episode is full of wisdom and inspiration for Missoula County residents and beyond.

If you would like to contribute to the final push of restoring the barracks, donations are accepted at https://fortmissoulamuseum.org/restore-the-barracks/
