How social entrepreneur Drew Weaver is using TikTok to help his black-owned businesses to get funding.

How social entrepreneur Drew Weaver is using TikTok to help his black-owned businesses to get funding.

Background Andrew (Drew) Weaver had over 20 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry as a Broadcast Engineer before venturing out on his own in 2011 to start his first business. By 2016, Drew decided to shift from being a traditional entrepreneur whose major ideology is profit is king and people are a means to an end, to being a Social Entrepreneur whose central ideology is people are king and profit is a means to an end. Shortly thereafter, he began shutting down his business.

Later that year, Drew decided his next business had to focus on social impact and SHOPINV, an app focused on ending poverty was born. Funding this venture via Venture Capitalists who marketed themselves as Social Impact investors proved to be impossible for a Black man in America. Drew was told, to his face, by a VC Owner that his investors would not invest in a Black man trying to end poverty. So, Drew went back to the drawing board and decided to strategically postpone SHOPINV.

It was after George Floyd was murdered and the people took to the streets to protest for days on end that Drew decided to build his third business BLVCK$FUND (pronounced Black Dollar Fund), which would never require funds from VC’s. All his revolutionary system would need to succeed is informed Black people and allies who thoroughly understand and applaud the goal of bridging the wealth gap after 400-plus years.

His ingenious plan incorporates group economics to invest in Black people and their communities. Andrew’s BLVCK$FUND strategy would take less than 10% of the Black population to participate and could yield roughly $650M per year to be solely invested in Black people and their communities throughout the 50 States.

Damone Roberts’ name is synonymous with creating iconic beauty and his renowned talent for sculpting the perfect arch. He is known for painting the features and shaping the brows of some of the world’s prominent beauties and famous faces, including Oprah, Madonna, Beyoncé, Kamala Harris (Madame Vice President), Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Taraji P. Henson, Channing Tatum, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, and Robert Downey Jr., to name a few.

Damone’s philosophy is that each person exudes their own individual beauty and that every face deserves the perfect frame®. In December of 2019, Damone decided to close his Beverly Hills salon, which he ran successfully in this location for 18 years, and another simultaneously in NYC for over 10. He was one of the first black business owners to have a stand-alone Beverly Hills location. He knew, instinctively, that it was time to make a change and open a Beauty Therapy Lounge in a smaller more intimate location giving opportunity for an even more customer-orientated salon.

That decision allowed him to manage the enormous challenges we have all faced in 2020-21, and to react appropriately. It also allowed Damone to focus on his Television work and to enjoy hosting a series of weekly Beauty Therapy IG Lives, that had thousands tuning in to hear him and his guests share how they made their brands thrive. Damone has been asked to guest on numerous successful Podcasts aside from Hosting his own The Starplucker Podcast. Most recently, Damone was asked to take part in the Tamron Hall show on their first Beauty Bar Special. Damone was asked to work with Nicole Kidman to design her look for the 2021 film I Love Lucy. May 2022 saw Damone featured on The Tamron Hall Show's first-ever Beauty Bar Special.

Damone Roberts’ distinctive flair has immortalized him in pop culture as an answer in the 2004 edition of the board game Trivial Pursuit, and most recently as a question on the world’s leading game show Jeopardy. His talent expanded from Beauty into Acting in Ava DuVernay’s first acclaimed feature film I Will Follow, as well as her 2020 Television series, Cherish the Day for OWN.

Damone was a regular contributing beauty editor with his own column titled Dear Damone for Oprah.com. His passion for creating the perfect arch has been featured on countless TV shows and has graced the covers of some of the globe’s top magazines. His signature products have been featured on many shows and channels including MSNBC, The View, BET, Access Hollywood, Oprah, Good Morning America, CNN.
