EPISODE 9 (50) NON VERBAL - watch peoples' body language for essential insights

EPISODE 9 (50) NON VERBAL - watch peoples' body language for essential insights

In this episode Andrew explains some of the secrets of non verbal communication.

He points out that this is a useful source of information since communication at work is vital to success at work.

The Non Verbal is important because people think and respond visually, we're built that way.

Andrew introduces a quotation from Helen Keller that famous blind and deaf woman who despite her disadvantages became a master of reading non verbal signs.

What does it take to understand these signals? Nothing more than being observant, self-aware and ready to show empathy.

Context is important for interpreting the Non Verbal says Andrew. Certain signals can be misinterpreted unless you are sensitive to the particular situation.

Andrew also shares some potent Non Verbal secrets used by ex President Clinton who was famous for his use of this approach.

There's no shortcut to understanding body language. But you are equipped with an inborn instinct to look out for it and use it to your advantage.

Quotation by Helen Keller read by Carol Leader.

The Chosen | Actor Jordan Walker Ross

Actor Jordan Walker Ross from The Chosen, 1883, and host of "What's Your Limp" opens up on the 39th Episode of All Heart with Paul Cardall about the challenges of working in Hollywood with a disability. scoliosis and minor cerebral palsy.  Jordon says he has a noticeable limp, very limited flexibility in his torso and legs. He says he's much shorter than the average person [5’4”] so his physical differences have negatively impacted his opportunities as an actor. He's been told by directors to" lose the limp" and has been cut from productions because it was too noticeable. The Chosen director Dallas Jenkins noticed Jordan's disability during his audition and later on set after Jordan was cast as one of the 12 Apostles Jenkins asked Jordon if he could write his disability into his role. Jordon is also currently on the Yellowstone prequel 1883 also starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. He plays a pioneer immigrating from Europe. Jordon is also the popular podcast host of What’s Your Limp? in which he’ll talk to guests about their own struggles and insecurities. His past credits include guest starring roles in TV shows such as Nickelodeon's Just Jordan, HBO's True Blood & Comedy Central's Reno 911, in addition to several inducement films.

    JORDAN WALKER ROSS

Jordan is an actor, screenwriter, host and public speaker based out of Dallas, TX. He was born in 1990 in Arlington, TX, 2 months premature. This led to several medical issues - specifically minor cerebral palsy, severe scoliosis & even more severe asthma. Because of these conditions, Jordan spent much of his early life in and out of hospitals, undergoing countless medical procedures. Unlike other children, Jordan was never able to play sports or overexert himself. So, he was forced to find other hobbies. He was 6 when he discovered his love for acting after being cast in a local production of A Christmas Carol (playing Tiny Tim). By the time he was 16, Jordan had appeared in over 40 professional productions throughout Texas and California. He ventured into the film/TV when he was 12 - following in his grandpa's footsteps - actor Barry Corbin. Jordan is currently a series regular on The Chosen - the largest crowd-funded project of all-time! He is also a key antagonist in the upcoming historical drama, Washington’s Armor and has several other projects in various stages of development. Stephen Letnes (Composer)

    Stephen Letnes (Composer)

In this episode of What's Your Limp? Jordan chats with Stephen Letnes - an award winning film composer and musician who has composed nearly 120 scores for feature films and shorts. If that wasn't impressive enough, Stephen has done all of that while being almost completely blind.

Stephen opens up to us about his struggles as a visually impaired composer, insecurities he's struggled with throughout his life and what he's doing to help create opportunities for other filmmakers/actors with disabilities!

Stephanie - working in global content distribution, living with a disability

Stephanie - working in global content distribution, living with a disability

At the age of 16, Stephanie was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma - a brain tumour that occurs mostly in children and young adults. On the week of diagnosis she had surgery to remove the tumour. Radiotherapy and months of rehabilitation followed and during this time she was not going to school. She recovered well and remained at stable level of health for 15 years, although whilst stable she didn’t have the same level of health as the average person.

At the age of 30 Stephanie began experiencing a loss of strength and balance. The tumour had not returned but her body was degenerating and still continues to degenerate, with no clear or fixable reason why. The long term effects of the tumour she had and subsequent treatment of it caused damage to her central nervous system. It’s only in the last 5 years that Stephanie has come to accept that she doesn’t have the ability to do many things and it took her a long time to come to terms with describing herself as living with a disability. She told me that “there are lots of us with disabilities whose details are unique to each person and I’m proud to speak up for all of us.”

Stephanie is a Key Account Manager for Warner Bros. at Deluxe Media, working on the distribution of pre-release and catalogue titles, and servicing high-security content to broadcasters and platforms.
