PM: Unlikely Samantha Murphy Will Be Found Alive

PM: Unlikely Samantha Murphy Will Be Found Alive

The Quicky evening news update for Friday February 3rd 2024.

    1. Police say they are investigating if missing Victorian woman Samantha Murphy’s body has potentially been moved as they reveal it is unlikely that the 51 year old will be found alive.

Ms Murphy left her Ballarat East home for a jog on the morning of February 4 and hasn’t been seen since, the detectives investigating the case saying they are keeping an open mind about her disappearance but that the most likely scenario is that it involved one or more parties, ruling out a medical episode and with nothing to indicate that she left the area on her own accord, leaving them to believe she has possibly been killed and that her body has since been relocated..

The lead detective wouldn’t say how many suspects they are currently following up but clarified that her Husband Mick was not one of them at this stage.

    2. A currently serving police officer has been taken into custody after presenting himself to investigators looking into the disappearance of former channel 10 reporter Jessie Baird and his Qantas flight attendant partner Luke Davies.

The 28 year old handed himself in at the Bondi police station shortly after 10:30 this morning after calls from police saying they were looking for a third person who may have information to help them unravel what has happened to the pair, neighbours reporting loud arguments in Baird’s apartment Monday night before blood stained items belonging to both Baird and Davies were found in skip at Cronulla. That discovery led police to Mr Baird’s blood stained apartment in Paddington 30 km away.

Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said the man, who will be charged with two counts of murder, is the ex partner of Jessie Baird but that no motive has been established at this point, but that they have found a projectile that had been discharged that matched a police firearm and a white van, that is believed to have been used to transport the bodies of the two men after being hired on Monday night, has also been located although the bodies are yet to be found.

    3. Deputy opposition leader Sussan Ley has called for the Prime Minister to hand over his ticket to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, saying he’s not a real Swiftie and should give it up for a true super fan.

Speaking to Seven’s Sunrise program Ley says what the PM does on his nights off is of course up to him, and if he wants to see Taylor Swift that’s cool but listening to those who couldn't get tickets ,she sent a message to Anthony Albanese to hand them over to a real Swiftie.

Mr Albanese says he’s looking forward to the gig and says he's already been given a bunch of friendship bracelets to prepare for the night.

    4. For the first time, the winners of the London Marathon, whether they are able bodied or not, will get equal prize money.

The wheelchair category in London was already one of the highest paid purses for a marathon in the world but from this year, there will be an increase of US $54,000 to the overall prize pool with the wheelchair winners taking home $55,000, second $30,000 and third $22,000.

the London marathon will be held on Sunday April 21 with three Aussies in the wheelchair category, including previous winner and defending champion Madison de Rozario

His marathon prowess continued with a notable 12th position in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, clocking 2:13:57. Ep 154: Journey From 2:40 Half Marathon to a 3:14 Marathon with Kishore Shelake

Ep 154: Journey From 2:40 Half Marathon to a 3:14 Marathon with Kishore Shelake

In this episode of Run with Fitpage, we have the pleasure of interviewing one of our trainees - Kishor Shelake, who is currently based in Dublin, Ireland. Kishor and Vikas discuss Kishor's journey to completing the Dublin Marathon with some great timing, in the final episode of the year 2023!

Kishor Shelake, a resilient runner hailing from Satara, has transformed his running journey under the guidance of Fitpage. Despite completing only 80% of the training, he conquered the Dublin Marathon comfortably within the targeted time. Kishor's running adventure began in 2016 with the Satara Hill Half Marathon (SHHM), where initial struggles fueled his determination. After facing challenges and learning from failures, he completed the Berlin Marathon in an impressive 3:25, significantly improving from his previous time of 3:56. Motivated by the desire to surprise his wife and fueled by frustration from not giving his best, Kishor joined Fitpage's Satara run group. His dedication and commitment are reflected in his remarkable progress, culminating in a stellar performance at the 2023 SHHM, completing it in an impressive 1:36.

Looking ahead, Kishor sets ambitious goals, aiming for a Sub 3:00 finish in the London Marathon and targeting a Sub 1:30 time in the SHHM. Balancing life and running, Kishor emphasizes the importance of patience, quality training, and maintaining a well-rounded life. He encourages fellow runners and beginners to trust Fitpage's training plans and advises putting oneself in uncomfortable positions to conquer any obstacles on the path to success. Kishor's journey exemplifies that success demands time and effort but is ultimately a rewarding endeavor.

Chasing Dreams: Tamsin Burland Running Journey

Chasing Dreams: Tamsin Burland Running Journey

Running wasn’t always a part of Tamsin Burland life. It began in her late 20s, spurred by witnessing the London Marathon, and evolved into an exploration of resilience, discipline, and the power of community. Our podcast guest today, Tamsin, walks us through her journey from a latecomer in the running world to a seasoned marathon runner, sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between.

Marathon running is more than just physical endurance, it’s a mental game too. Tamsin takes us through the ins and outs of training for a marathon, her experiences running the Tokyo marathon and the importance of a knowledgeable coach guiding the way. As she reveled in the thrill of international races, she also learned the significance of discipline and taking time out when suffering from injuries. Above all, her running journey taught her the incomparable health benefits of running, both physical and mental, and the sense of camaraderie shared amongst runners.

But Tamsin’s journey doesn’t stop at marathons. She takes us on the trail of her ultra running journey under the guidance of Tom Bond Payne, who she met in Morocco. In the face of injuries and challenges, her determination never waned, even when her interest in running the Comrades Marathon in South Africa diminished. Through her recounting, we get a glimpse into the discipline required for training, the benefits of remote coaching, and an insider's take on the challenging float sessions. Get ready to lace up those running shoes and be inspired by Tamsin’s adventure-filled tale in the world of running.

And that's a wrap for another exhilarating episode of Brian's Run Pod! Thanks for tuning in, folks.

Ep 104: Understanding Journey to the World Majors with Leading Sports Tour Operator Gauri Jayaram, Founder of Active Holiday Company

Ep 104: Understanding Journey to the World Majors with Leading Sports Tour Operator Gauri Jayaram, Founder of Active Holiday Company

Participating in an international running event is perhaps the best holiday a running enthusiast could imagine. For most Indian runners who travel to other countries to run in an event, it is an opportunity to renew their enthusiasm for running and does so in cultures that are new and refreshing in every sense.

In this episode of ‘Run with fitpage’ joining Vikas is Gauri Jayaram who is the founder and CEO of Active Holiday Company. As the name implies, Active Holiday blends your desire to run in some of the most celebrated running events in the world with a desire to have a vacation of a lifetime. In this episode, Vikas and Gauri dive into talking about the charm of running the world majors (there are six), and also the challenges of participating in these running events. Often the first step of participating in these events can be a challenge, especially with how difficult it can be to participate through the ballot, and Gauri shares how Active Holiday Company becomes instrumental in navigating this challenge as an official tour operator for such running events.

This conversation is likely to instill a seed in you to participate in running events outside India and give you solid answers to some of the questions that surround you in planning to run in world majors. Vikas and Gauri explore topics like:

    • Various ways in which International runners can participate in World Majors
    • Starting a world-major journey for runners
    • Profiling world majors for Indian runners
    • How official tour operators are positioned in helping you participate
    • Experience running some of the most celebrated marathon events
    • Perfect place to start your first International run
    • Some fun and insightful experiences Gauri has had over the years traveling with and for runners

There are only a few ways in which you can participate in world major marathons–commonly known as world majors. It can be done through the ballot, where you drop your name and leave the rest to faith. If you are an elite runner, you just need to enroll. If you wish your participation to help a cause, your charity can be your entry. The last is participating through an official tour operator who holds a certain number of tickets.

In this conversation, Gauri shares her story of how she started Active Holiday Company and how it became a tour operator. For runners, the camaraderie and lasting relationships that get built in traveling to other countries for races is something that goes beyond simply running a world major. Gauri has been a witness to many remarkable experiences and cultures runners often enjoy during their travels, and she gives voice to all of them in this episode.

52: Running Disney for Charity, the Jeff Galloway App, and the London Marathon

On this week's episode of the Rise and Run Podcast will be discussing running for a charity in relation to runDisney, charity fundraising, and ideas to reach your fundraising goals.

Before our charity discussion, we announce the winners of the Instagram contest to give away five Rise and Run Podcast tumblers. Entries were put in a spinning wheel and picked at random, and if a listener added a favorite episode, they received a bonus entry.

With a lot of our listeners running for a charity for the first time this year, we wanted to provide an episode on charity fundraisers to help fuel ideas to help you reach your fundraising goals for the upcoming runDisney season. Allie and Greg start the discussion with how and why they run for their respective charities. We are then joined by Peter Brookhart from The Brookhart Project.  Peter and the gang discuss creative ways to fundraise for your charity bib.

Next, we are joined by Cheri  Witt to discuss the new Jeff Galloway App that was released this week.

With the Chicago Marathon occurring this weekend, Jack reminds our listeners to check the course by watching her Chicago 2021 video plus many more on the Passport to Run  YouTube channel which she does with Lexie.

On this weeks Race Report Spotlight we head across the pond to London for the 2022 TCS London Marathon were Rise and Runner’s Madge and Amie participated in this world major.
