Cats! Adorable Animals All-Out Attack! (The Corpse Grinders, The Cat from Outer Space, The Black Cat, The Cat)

Adorable animals return! And at least some of them are back for the attack. Hopefully, our cat children were not negatively impacted during our viewing of these features.

The bodies from a local cemetery are used to develop a new taste sensation for cats in The Corpse Grinders (1971)! An alien cat arrives on Earth, in need of repairs to his spacecraft, while trying to avoid the military, spies, and gambling debts, in Disney's The Cat from Outer Space (1978)! Lucio Fulci brings us his freely adapted film version of the Edgar Allan Poe classic, featuring a really pissed off cat who loves to shred human flesh in The Black Cat (1981)! And then from there, Hong Kong brings us three knights from outer space (two humanoids, one cat), pursuing some kind of grotesque space...thing, and a must-see cat versus dog junkyard brawl in The Cat (1992)!

This week I met up with bass player Jerry Montano, at one time or another he has been a member of Hellyeah, Mortiis, Nothingface & Danzig amongst a stack more & we chat about his history with horror & a little regarding our thoughts on the 1992 banger Brandead aka Dead Alive, it's as sharp as a brand new lawn mower blade raging towards your face!

In this episode, we’re digging into the music of Eighth Tower Records, a record label that focuses on “dark music and fiction.” We selected albums that were inspired by influential horror artists, Zdzisław Beksiński and Lucio Fulci. While they worked with very different mediums their art shares a similar abstract nightmare aesthetic and pessimistic worldview. Consequently, the albums inspired by their work are equally haunting and evocative.

Lucio Fulci's Zombie Review: Where Does This Rank Among the Best Zombie Films? — Episode 151

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we look back at Lucio Fulci's 1979 classic "Zombie," which is not actually a sequel to "Dawn of the Dead" but it is a rather amazing film about the undead rising from their graves!

The boys put on their tightest clothes and dance their way through a disco giallo full of twist, turns, 80s wedgies, and hat pin murders! When we're not busy looking for clues, we're discussing communal showers, Dan's KFC tales, Big Greg in the mirror, a moderately adequate lover, long balls, and a new O.C. television sequel! How did we all feel about the first Lucio Fulci movie we've covered for the show?! Check out the episode to find out!

Lucio Fulci's Zombie (1979) - Spring Break in Matool

Lucio Fulci's Zombie (1979) - Spring Break in Matool

When March rolls around and things are not warming up quickly enough, sometimes you just need to get away on a spring break! But what if you're on a limited budget? Then you might end up on a zombie-infested island like we did! Realistically, this movie has nothing to do with spring break, we know. Just humor us, please.

A seemingly abandoned boat turns up in the New York City harbor, linking the owner to the mysterious island of Matool in the Caribbean. When the boat's owner is discovered to have gone missing, his daughter and a reporter make it their mission to locate Matool in an attempt to unravel the mystery behind his disappearance.

That all probably sounds pretty tame, right? No big deal. Until zombies show up and start biting off chunks of flesh and ripping out throats with their teeth. Of course, there are plenty of other moments of zombies chowing down on human flesh, along with infamous scenes involving a rather large splinter penetrating an eyeball, Spanish conquistadores rising from their graves, and an underwater zombie versus a shark!

Lucio Fulci's reputation as the "Godfather of Gore" truly begins here, with the splatter classic, Zombie (1979)!

    The Beyond (1981)

    The Beyond (1981)

The squad dons their eye protection and takes a look at Mike's surreal pick, THE BEYOND (1981). Is this the goriest Mike pick, yet? Is the score a certified bop? Is this film all style and no substance? Tune in to find out if we gave this film a NAY, OKAY, YAY, or SLAY!

    1986 (Part 2)

    1986 (Part 2)

It's time for one of those massive episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 1986 was yet another massive year for horror movies. As well as containing those huge studio movies, exploitation cinema & indie horror was breaking through to little me, I could source all this thanks to the VHS rental shop. The underground was still rich at this point in time . But what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during '86? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 7+ hour running time split over 4 episodes. This is the 1986, A Year In Horror.

It's a truly long journey this one, part 2 of 4 in fact. I am going to give you the time codes below so if you don't want spoilers then, please, avert your eyes.

Below are the timecodes for all the different segments and my guest links. Feel free to let me know where you think I got it wrong or right and of course stay safe out there & I'll see you next month.

The New York Ripper Review (Special Lost Episode) — Episode 123

The New York Ripper Review (Special Lost Episode) — Episode 123

Italian horror have often been revered or considered revolting by audiences all over the world. Famed directors like Dario Argento have built rabid fanbases centered around the stylized way many directors from the European country color a canvas with blood.

Lucio Fulci — who was nicknamed the “Godfather of Gore” — was one of the most beloved directors of Italian horror films with his work on movies such as” “Zombi 2” and  “City of the Living Dead.”

In 1982, Fulci released what would become one of his most controversial films — a movie set against the backdrop of New York City where a serial killer with a fetish for speaking like a duck is stalking and killing women in the most horrific ways possible.

The movie was so graphic that it was banned in the United Kingdom after being called “simple the most damaging film” of all time.

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to practice our best quacks and polish up our silver toes as we review the 1982 Lucio Fulci film “The New York Ripper”….

Join Jeff and Dylan as they talk about some of their favorite films produced in Italy: Jeff brings A Bay of Blood (which is only the second Mario Bava movie Dylan has even seen) and Dylan brings his third favorite Lucio Fulci picture, A Woman in a Lizard's Skin

Will Dylan have room in his heart for another serial killer tied to a major body of water?

Will Jeff agree that giallo movies have some of the best titles in cinema?

Episodes 193: Midnight Movie Madness: 'Deadstream' (2022)/'Project Wolf Hunting' (2022)

Episodes 193: Midnight Movie Madness: 'Deadstream' (2022)/'Project Wolf Hunting' (2022)

We start the show with talk of the Naked Gun movies and Police Squad. Leslie Nielsen made the role of Frank Drebin his own. Liam Neeson is a great actor, but can he step into the shoes of the iconic character? And what does any of this have to do with The Simpsons?

Blake and Regina had a great idea few weeks ago to talk about upcoming genre movies. It is was a great idea and, frankly, is something we should have been doing for a long time. So, this week we are debuting a new segment on the show. This week we talk about Genre of the Future! For our first installment, we talk the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, whether Halloween will truly end, and the greatest horror movie moments.

For the first time ever, we have a repeat review on our show. The last time we did Deadstream, Blake was not able to join us. Since the show recently debuted on Shudder, we figured this would be a great time to rectify that. We talk about having love for your craft, the importance of simplicity and horror, and uncharismatic influencers.

It is not often that a movie leaves us speechless. We may be baffled, confused, or frustrated, but we always have something to say. And then we watched Project Wolf Hunting. The South Korean movie is about a group of dangerous criminals being transported on a giant cargo ship. Naturally, they escape.

It sounds like Korean Con Air on a boat, and it is for a while. It soon becomes something so different that we had no idea what to think about. What we were both sure of is that it is easily one of the goriest movies in recent memory. We talk about when enough is too much, try to figure out what the film is going for, and try to decide if the body count is closer to 50 or 60 people dead.
