    INAM | Pastor Krista Ortiz

    INAM | Pastor Krista Ortiz

We live in a world where it's so easy to focus on our selves... We become, and even celebrate, being self-serving, self-preserving, and self-seeking.

But when it comes to following the way of Jesus, none of those aspects of "self" were things Jesus did nor were they things He said we should aspire toward. Instead, Jesus made it clear that it shouldn't be ourselves, but rather how we love, serve, and care for others. In Jesus' words, "It's not about me."

Bryony Soden is a professional Muay Thai fighter and is a role model for women in the Muay Thai community

Bryony Soden is a professional Muay Thai fighter and is a role model for women in the Muay Thai community
"I’m Bryony I am 21 years old, I live in Waikiki and I am a professional Muay Thai Fighter. I have been doing Muay Thai for a short amount of time 3.5 years and of that 2.5 years of fighting I have achieved 11 fights. I have won gold at the Nationals Muay Thai Australia in 2019, bronze in 2020 and have fought in Thailand. In this short amount of time I have made a massive name for myself in the Muay Thai scene as a up and comer in WA. During this time I volunteered for over a year teaching the kids at my gym, and in the last 6 months began as the head coach for the kids. During this time I’ve been sponsored by Victory Recovery Systems - something I’m very proud of. To fund the training, nutritionists, strength coach’s, boxing coaches, recovery, gear and travelling expenses I have worked at Woolworths whilst studying at Curtin University a Bachelors of Nutrition. To note I have done all this within the past few years having to move homes/slept on couches/questionable living circumstances and dealt with unfortunate drama - which influenced me to fail a few units and develop REDs. However as an athlete during this time I’ve learnt how to deal with this, how to balance life, I invested in a health professional to get my health back and after the first corona locked down and after my first 2 losses in a row I had a massive comeback fight. My latest 2 fights I have demonstrated how much I have learnt from life and fighting by absolutely schooling my opponents and being in the best shape of my life!

At the moment I’m 8 weeks out from my next fight where I will be taking another more experienced opponent up in weight. As well as I have taken a massive step up in my side hustles of running the social media for my gym to take on a more invested role and to grow it as it’s manager. Not only this, this morning I received amazing news that my strength gym has offered me a sponsorship. In short, I’m very busy 21 year old that works at Woolworths, is a professional fighter, teaches kids Muay Thai, manages a Muay Thai gym, studies Nutrition at university and am a role model for other women in the Muay Thai community."

Brittany Ward, the Founder of Rising Stars - the first all-abilities basketball program in the Territory

Brittany Ward, the Founder of Rising Stars - the first all-abilities basketball program in the Territory
I am an American by birth but Australian by heart. I moved to Australia in 2012 only one week after graduating University. I originally came to Oz to play basketball - I played in Perth, Darwin, the Gold Coast. I even lived in NZ for a brief period of time when I over-stayed my visa.

But as Territorians say, you'll be back...you always come back to Darwin. And it's true. I got married and started setting roots in Darwin by investing in the youth, particularly the underserved and at-risk youth. I started by founding the first all-abilities basketball program in the Territory called Rising Stars. This filled my heart with so much joy, that I expanded on my mission to be the light in this world and started working for Midnight Basketball which is now called Launch Basketball Night Series. I'm passionate about using sport as a vehicle to drive change in a young person's life. I know how impactful being a part of a team is, because sport in fact changed my life. Also, every program I created or was a part of had to eliminate barriers to access- meaning everything needed to be FREE to the participants. Moving back to the states, I have continued my work in youth development and empowerment by working for a non-profit called the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League. Our sports programs are free of charge to all PAL participants, and we serve nearly 1500 young people year over year.

    S3 E19: Voices In Union

    S3 E19: Voices In Union

In this episode, I sit down with three of my fellow food Instagrammers, Michelle from @nomnompaleo who is Chinese American, Alice from @hipfoodiemom who is Korean American, and ChihYu from @iheartumami.ny who is Taiwanese American. It was such an important conversation, in light of the unthinkable level of racially motivated violence Asian Americans are experiencing in addition to decades of micro-aggressions and xenophobia. They share their own stories from a very vulnerable place, and I was honored to be a part of this heartfelt and deeply personal level of sharing about current events as well as what it was like to be an Asian American child growing up in the United States and living in a predominantly white area. Please take a moment to give this unique episode a listen and learn how to help. Find out the Five Ds of intervention by @ihollagram and how to use our collective voices to educate and illuminate. Let’s do this.

In addition, I feel so grateful that Michelle @nomnompaleo took the time to compile a list of resources for those looking to learn, grow, and make a difference right now. Absolutely set aside some time to click here, check them out, and share.

    What is Pencil Leadership?

    What is Pencil Leadership?

Pencil Leadership is based on a parable. There are 5 traits to Pencil Leadership.

    1) Be Humble - because you must be held by someone else to leave a positive mark.

    2) You will have to be "sharpened." - Painful times, once healed from, can help positive growth

    3) You have an eraser - You can always work to fix your mistakes.

    4) You will get dinged up over time, scratched and chipped. - Don’t let your outer appearance affect what truly matters; the "lead" (your character, integrity, etc.) inside which leaves the mark.

    5) You were created with a purpose - You can always leave a good mark. No matter the surface. Some might make it harder but with a little more effort you can always leave a mark.

So, if you're ready, take out your pencils and let's begin!

    But God - Marvin Derksen

    But God - Marvin Derksen

How often we, as mere human beings, make our every day plans as is we are in total control of our lives. We forget the disclaimer often made in the Word of God - the little words "BUT GOD". Yes, God has the final word. Perhaps we face some very difficult circumstances in life, and there seems to be no way out. Or, worse still, we learn about our sinful condition before a holy God and come to realize that there is nothing we can do about it. It is wonderful to know that despite our condition and circumstances, there is a God Who is ready to step into our lives and make a difference.

Called to Greater Things! | Ps. Sebastiaan Van Wessem

Called to Greater Things! | Ps. Sebastiaan Van Wessem
September 30, 2018 Every person in the world, every believer is called to make a difference. Making a difference is so much more than being a nice person. Jesus wants us to make an eternal difference in the lives of others. That is why He left us his famous last words: the Great Commission at the end of the Gospel of Matthew. In this sermon Pastor Sebastiaan van Wessem shares how we can make the Great Commission our life’s mission.

Healing, Transformation, and Being Part of the Solution

Healing, Transformation, and Being Part of the Solution
Being a radio show host has changed my life in ways I know and don’t know. I often say it’s like getting a second PhD, only this one is fun. I’m slightly into my fifth year whereas Hillary Raimo had 13 years of conversations with ground-breaking thought leaders, attracting millions of listeners worldwide. Her ability to distill facts, integrate ideas, and synthesize information from so many fields led her to draw deep understandings of what we are facing today, how it came to be, and what we can do about it. Hillary says: 'The healing work is done here, on Earth. And if you are here, you are doing the work.' 'If man can build the tower of Babel, he can certainly bring it down.' And, 'The big question of course, is what are the odds that you have been manifested out of the entire universe to be here? Astronomical. Make good use of it.' Please join us to hear more wisdom from my guest and how kindness, unconditional love, and each of us can make a difference in these challenging times.
