Episode 21: [END OF SEASON 1] When you're trapped inside the lie of either/or

Either/or is a choice for a narrow range of categories, and the rest of life generally fits into the wild, tangly box of both/and.

You can chase your theater dreams AND be a story coach.

You can keep your foot in the corporate world AND build your consulting business.

You can position yourself in marketing AND deliver transformative, life-changing impact.

But I think that maybe the linear promises of frameworks and 7-Figure Clubs have robbed us of the freedom to see the world through the lens of both/and – because, well, if there’s more than one way, then the power of the expert gets smaller and smaller.

And that would suck for the experts.

Finding Compassion for Yourself and Others in the Present Moment

Finding Compassion for Yourself and Others in the Present Moment

Knowing that you have agency in your life and have the capability of making choices rather than having life imposed on you, allows you to choose your experiences and defines who you are. The power we have as individuals is to choose the flavor of the experiences we have by filtering them through our particular lens.

Asking how you want to experience events in your life is a calming question that allows you to show up the way you want to rather than the way you might if you are reacting automatically.

The more present we can be in the moment, the more options are available to us emotionally and creatively. Our actions when taken from a place of presence are more effective and have a more positive impact when we can take small, mindful steps in our interactions.

    More about Verity:
I'm Verity Lucia. I'm a wife, mom to four awesome kids, and a former wayward teen.  I was raised in a loving Christian household, but as a teen had too many questions about our faith and not enough answers. So, when I left home at seventeen as a non-practicing Catholic and threw myself into an unhealthy college environment with nothing but my own desires to guide me, the result wasn't pretty.
I was on fire, not for God, but for architecture and chasing my dreams.
Fortunately, God drew me out of the mess I'd made, and I finally saw that His ways were better than mine. I  surrendered to His will, and now instead of designing buildings, I write the books that I needed as a teen and young adult.

    Today Is The Day

    Today Is The Day

Today's episode of Navigate the Day is all about seizing the moment and being a good person in the present. The wisdom of Marcus Aurelius reminds us that we reap what we sow, and if we delay being a good person, we also delay the rewards that come with it. We have the power to make positive choices right now.

Similarly, Seneca emphasizes the importance of living in the present and not complaining about a lack of time. Today holds tremendous potential, and we shouldn't wait for tomorrow or a better opportunity. Instead, we should take action and make the most of the time we have.

Reflecting on these quotes, I realize that I haven't been living up to my potential as a good person. I've procrastinated, allowed negativity to consume me, and neglected my responsibilities. It saddens me to think that I've let down those around me, especially my partner.

While it's important to acknowledge my shortcomings, I also need to be kind to myself and not be overly critical. Progress takes time, and I mustn't fall into the trap of believing that I shouldn't even try because of past mistakes. Tomorrow is a new day, and I will approach it with renewed determination.

Today's episode may be shorter than usual due to my distractions and negative mindset, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my actions. I'm committed to making improvements and not repeating the same patterns. Ignoring my daily stoic journaling was a mistake, but I'm glad I was able to address it and make some progress.

As I move forward, I will strive to be a good person right here, right now. I won't let the past define me, but instead, I'll focus on the present and seize every opportunity to grow and make a positive impact. Today is the day to make a change.

Thank you for listening and joining me on my journey of self-discovery!

Ambivalence: It's Not What You Think

Ambivalence: It's Not What You Think

Do you find yourself being pulled in two directions at once? Do you have many feelings about one aspect or one situation in your life? Sometimes, when we have a number of feelings running through us at one time, it becomes hard to find our ground and difficult to make decisions. What you might be feeling is called ambivalence, feeling two things at once (Ambi meaning two, and valence meaning feeling), which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Culturally, we tend to admire the decisive, single-minded person who seems to know what they want and goes towards it. However, ambivalence awakens us to the complexity of being human, and the possibility for greater freedom and choice in our lives. Life is more than just pursuing goals; it is also about expanding ourselves by opening our senses to all the things we can feel.

When feeling too much becomes too much!, a person can feel paralyzed and the single-minded goal pursuer can seem like a very attractive alternative. It does NOT have to be one or the other.  Join Kevin O'Donoghue and Niseema Dyan Diemer as they explore how feelings of ambivalence play out in the context of relationships and current events.

When lightning strikes. Why you could be missing your sign to strike big in your life.

Sometimes, we wait to see the lightning strike.  We run for cover, keep ourselves safe, or get still and stay. Either way, lightning gets our attention to take action. What lightning in your life have you seen but have yet to take action on?  What do you do when it only appears for you, and everyone is by your side but doesn't see it?  Can you step out on faith? Or will you wait until everyone says it's time? You don't want to miss this message if you are at a crossroads.

#49: Tough It Out or Start From Scratch? (Part 1)

I can't speak for everyone. I know that lately, I've felt off. When thinking about WHY and WHAT I needed to do to get... unstuck... I felt like I needed to start from scratch. Go left or right. Do what I know or take a risk and start over and chase desires. Whew!

How many of you have started down a path and once you got into it, you realize it wasn't for you? You've invested so much time and energy. You've committed to this path. You have to see it through, or do you?

I just want you to question your desires. Question your path. Question your feelings of being stuck. Question WHY.

What if starting from scratch is what you NEED for your road to happiness?
