When Your Best Team Member Quits | E151

When Your Best Team Member Quits | E151

In this week's episode of Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy dives into the tough reality of losing key team members unexpectedly in your growing business. She acknowledges the emotional toll it takes and provides insightful guidance on how to navigate these challenging moments.

Throughout the episode, Kris emphasizes the inevitability of change in business and the importance of being prepared for it. She encourages listeners to maintain a proactive hiring strategy and always be on the lookout for new talent, even during periods of stability. Kris also urges her audience not to take departures personally, emphasizing that employees won't have the same level of attachment to the business as the founder or CEO.

Kris skillfully addresses the emotional reactions that may arise when faced with unexpected turnover, reminding her audience that they possess the knowledge and capability to handle these challenges. She highlights the need for developing systems and infrastructure to support the hiring process.

An important takeaway from the episode is Kris's belief that despite the setbacks, female founders in leadership roles are fully capable of overcoming obstacles. She urges them not to give up when faced with employee departures, reinforcing the message that they have the strength and resources to persevere.

“We have to have line of sight into our business and know what our mitigation plans are if anybody quits. We have to have a hiring strategy that invites us to always be hiring. Always be nurturing your next best hire. Always be looking for them.”

Does Change Have to Be Slow and Methodical?

Does Change Have to Be Slow and Methodical?

Managing change doesn’t have to be a slow and methodical process.  In fact, to expect slow change is to do a disservice to the organization and its people, accepting a pace of change that actually falls behind the pace of change around us.

    Don't Be a Mastodon

Last week I included in my weekly newsletter the link to a podcast I did a few weeks ago for Beyond the Cookie Cutter. It was about managing change. Then this week, out of nowhere, I found myself faced with another possible change. It will require a shift in a hope I have held on to for a long time and an adjustment in how I deal with a current situation. This reminded me of where I was back in 2013 and some hard lessons I had to learn. I want to share what I learned in 2013 because it is so 2023. LOL

Join me for some lessons on how life is like an onion and remaining happy when life takes turns you didn't plan for or expect.

#52 - Authentic Conversations: Building a Cohesive Leadership Team (Part 4)
“It’s not the topic of conflict that’s really the issue or the problem, it’s how we do conflict. We can grow towards learning how to do conflict in a way that really meets the needs of everyone in the group and helps us achieve our goals” Ethan and Mike continue their series on building a healthy leadership team by diving further into the topic of conflict. Conflict among a leadership team isn’t bad…in fact, the ability to authentically engage in conflict is a key behavior of a cohesive and effective leadership team. The cohosts get into a range of topics relating to mastering the art of conflict including what healthy conflict looks like, how to encourage and reward it, and how it can inform and enhance decision-making.

    #30 – Change is Hard

    #30 – Change is Hard

“Change is hard, and we are creatures of predictability and consistency. And there is something comfortable about things being the same. And there is something frightening about change.”

Whether we know it or not, change triggers fear. It’s just human. That’s why we resist change. And that’s why systems tend to resist change. If an organization is to remain healthy, it has to understand the fundamentals of creating lasting change. Its ability to adapt and adjust is vital for its success. Ethan and Mike take on the topics of change, how to manage it, how to work through resistance, avoiding “flavor of the year,” sponsorship, and more. Go forth and create change.
