4. Halloweentown, or Kalabar's an Incel

Everyone sound the alarm, okay? We're already at the best DCOM- episode four, give us more, it's HALLOWEENTOWN. This movie has a human pincusion, a really hot mom who is the same age as Wes and Mary Cait, and honestly a lot of fodder for our thesis about the act of engaging with cinema.... jk but it's got that skeleton cabbie.

Finding Your Uniqueness to Connect with Influencers - Marnie Swedberg

Finding Your Uniqueness to Connect with Influencers - Marnie Swedberg

Marnie Swedberg, a trusted mentor to more than 15,000 leaders, author of 13 books, radio show host, and founder of WomenSpeakers.com, shares how to find your uniqueness to grow your network and your business.

    Marnie Swedberg’s Journey

Marnie's struggles with reading as a child helped her become a resourceful and resilient adult.

Her unique perspective allowed her to find opportunities and “holes” in the market that people would otherwise overlook.

Now, she leads flourishing businesses and one of the largest communities for women speakers.

    Your influencer marketing story

Finding what makes you stand out

Marnie makes a distinction between what makes you stand out and what makes you unique.

Even the pains and challenges that you've faced contribute to your uniqueness.

Marnie says you can’t be everything to everybody so instead, focus on being really good for the people who need you.

Choosing a path you're most comfortable with

We are all built differently, so there isn't a wrong or right way to reach out to influencers. Instead, she suggests:

    1. Pinpointing your values
    2. Finding out how you function best
    3. Beginning from your own platform

Marnie started WomenSpeakers.com with one member-- herself!

Other speakers and event planners found the site and joined. Now it has become the largest online directory for Christian women speakers in the world, connecting thousands of speakers and event planners.

    Marnie as an influencer

Marnie continuously receives requests to review books, write forewords, make a statement for publicity, become a guest on her show, join WomenSpeakers.com directory, or collaborate on joint ventures, webinars and online summits.

    How to handle it all?

    By staying focused.

Knowing her vision, mission and purpose helps her define which opportunities are for her and for her audience. This means that if you approach her with a proposal that perfectly matches her mission and values, you'll be much more likely to get a yes.

    Worst influencer marketing moment

“It’s usually about the process,” Marnie says. Take note of what didn't work during the joint project so you don't repeat the mistakes.

Marnie also learned to reframe her challenges as “college credits." Learn and move on!

One thing you’re most excited about

Her main focus for 2018 is on expansion, including a new per-minute coaching program. She wants to help you go beyond current limitations and to find your ideal audience.

    Resources and tools mentioned

    Marnie's Message

You're unique. There is nobody else on the entire planet that is put together just like you.

Your mission and vision is to accomplish what you're meant to do. Go figure it out and get it done.

Tippi Hedren - Legendary Actress and Animal Rights Activist

Tippi Hedren - Legendary Actress and Animal Rights Activist
Nathalie Kay "Tippi" Hedren (born January 19, 1930) is an American actress, animal rights activist and former fashion model.

A successful fashion model from her twenties, appearing on the front covers of Life and Glamour magazines among others, Hedren became an actress after she was discovered by director Alfred Hitchcock while appearing on a television commercial in 1961. She received world recognition for her work in two of his films, the suspense-thriller The Birds in 1963, for which she won a Golden Globe, and the psychological drama Marnie in 1964. Hedren has appeared in over eighty films and TV shows including Charlie Chaplin's final film, A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), the Alexander Payne political satire Citizen Ruth (1996), and the David O. Russell existential comedy I Heart Huckabees (2004), and her contributions to world cinema have been honored with the Jules Verne Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame among others.

Her strong commitment to animal rescue began in 1969 while she was shooting two films in Africa and was introduced to the plight of African lions. In an attempt to raise awareness for wildlife, she spent nearly eleven years bringing Roar (1981) to the screen. She started her own non-profit organization, the Roar Foundation, in 1983 to support The Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre (32 ha) wildlife habitat which enables her to continue her work in the care and preservation of lions and tigers. Hedren has also traveled worldwide to set up relief programs following earthquakes, hurricanes, famine and war. She was instrumental in the development of Vietnamese-American nail salons in the United States.[1]

The End of Girls with Las Culturistas

The End of Girls with Las Culturistas

This week, the Pop Rocket panel has some extra help to talk about the 5 years and 6 seasons of Girls that ended this past Sunday from the New York based comedy duo Las Culturistas. As you can imagine, the gang has a lot to say during this post mortem. They talk about whether we got closure from the final episode, and whether Lena should have just stopped at the penultimate episode. Did the producers of Girls do enough to deal with the lack of racial diversity on the show over the 5 years? What role did nudity and sex play on show, and why was it so refreshing? Was Elijah used as a trophy and crutch or seen as a peer by Hannah? And did we think that this was a genuinely funny show? All of these questions will be answered, plus Bowen and Wynter are all about new video games, and Matt can't stop listening to the new Gaga. In lieu of jams this week, we get a master class in the signature segment on the Las Culturistas podcast, "I Don't Think So Honey"-- things get rowdy.

We also want to thank everyone who donated during the MaxFun Drive this year, and give a particular shoutout to those who donated on our shows behalf. Tweet at us if you made a donation to us and didn't receive your voicemail from Karen Tongson.

If you will be in the Los Angeles area this Friday, April 21st, make sure to check out Matt and Bowen's improv group Pop Roulette at UCB Sunset at 10:30 p.m.

Guy Branum, Karen Tongson, Wynter Mitchell, and Bowen Yang, and Matt Rogers

Each week we’ll add everyone’s jams to this handy Spotify playlist.

You can let us know what you think of Pop Rocket and suggest topics in our Facebook group or via @PopRocket on Twitter.

    Ep. 34: Psycho & Hitchcock

    Ep. 34: Psycho & Hitchcock

On today's podcast, we're paying tribute to "The Master of the Macabre", Alfred Hitchcock. On-hand to assist Lady P in dissecting Sir Alfred's filmography is renowned film historian, author, and Professor Emeritus from Indiana University, James Naremore.

For our first topic, we have the Sight and Sound Critics' Poll's 34th Greatest Film of All Time: PSYCHO (1960). Our guest, James, originally offered up his in-depth take on Hitch's infamous feature in his 1973 book Filmguide to Psycho. However, that was not the first nor the last time that PSYCHO would be broken down and analyzed. It's a film that audiences, critics, and film theorists have repeatedly come back to over the years. But for today's analysis, James and Lady P make their own inspection of the Bates Motel. They parse through the publicity, the politics, and the aesthetics of the film to help explain its notoriety and its cultural and historical importance.

Then, lurking behind the next segment-break is... Sir Alfred Hitchcock, again! This Thursday (August 13th) marks Hitchcock's 116th birthday. And while it's been almost 35 years since his death, on this podcast--like all arenas of film discussion--the ghost of Alfred Hitchcock is ever present. So, to mark the occasion, Lady P and Jim list their favorite Hitchcock films, and talk about some of his lesser-known masterpieces. Plus, they discuss why his persona continues to loom so large in both academic circles, and in the public's imagination.

    Muteki 17 janvier 2015 (S15-Ep16) - Yellow Jackson Orchestra
