President-elect Droupadi Murmu took oath to head the highest constitutional post of the country, followed by a 21-gun salute.Droupadi Murmu was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana. There has been a long standing demand for reservations in legislatures in India for women. Currently, fifty percent of positions in panchayati raj institutions are reserved for women. If women's issues are to come to the fore in politics, is increased representation the only way forward?
