In the second half, we start with fast the US managed to launch an object towards space, and finally why we don't know anything about the Old Kingdom in Egypt. Enjoy!

    124 - Castle Life
We all have an idea of what living in a castle would be like... lords and ladies, knights, jesters, and such.  Even living outside of a castle in those times would be an interesting to experience for a day.  This episode of TS2M is an entertaining and somewhat informative conversation about medieval life, both inside and outside of the castle.

On this episode of Cock and Bull, we have the old gang back with comedians and ex-producers Navin Noronha and Abbas Momin. (Where is Amit?) What's happening in Cyrus' House? Why is painting a room so goddamn expensive? All these questions will be answered. Cyrus talks to Navin, Abbas and Silverie (Antariksh) about who chose the theme music for Cyrus Says, the traditions of throwing poop out of the windows in Scotland in medieval times, which of Cyrus' producers has participated and won a fancy dress competition, and lots more. Plus, the-words-of-the-day are 'lorgnette' and 'pettifogging', and Abbas talks about why he didn't like the new Spiderman movie. Tune in for this and much more.

    The Cable Guy (1996)

    The Cable Guy (1996)

    “The future is now!”

Welcome back to another juiced up, stalkerific, life-disrupting episode of THE FILM SNARKS!!!

This week, we’re taking a little ride on the information superhighway and heading back to the mid-90’s once more, a time when home TVs were monstrously oversized tubes, a time when MTV still played real ACTUAL music videos on said tubes, and most relevant to the movie in question this week, waiting hours at a time for the cable company to show up at your home to install your cable!

It’s probably painfully obvious that we’re talking about the 1996 Jim Carrey-starring and Ben Stiller-directed dark comedy, The Cable Guy, which turned 25 this week on June 14th if you can believe that!

What would you do if you had a stage 5 clinger that just wouldn't leave you alone? How would you react if someone invaded every aspect of your life and turned everything upside down?

Join us this week as we find out if making us dislike Jim Carrey was a strategic mistake and does The Cable Guy suffer for it, or is it another wholly misunderstood 90s flick that deserves a second life 25 years on?

“This concludes our broadcast day. Click.”

Gender & Sex in Medieval Times: a conversation with Eleanor Janega

Gender & Sex in Medieval Times: a conversation with Eleanor Janega

Alex Iantaffi talks about gender and sex in medieval times with Dr Eleanor Janega,  a medieval historian. More specifically, Dr Janega specialises in late medieval sexuality, apocalyptic thought, propaganda, and the urban experience in general, and in central Europe more particularly. She has taught (and still teaches) medieval and early modern history at a number of universities across London, in the UK. Her work can be found in History Today, at the BBC History magazine, at sex education websites such as BISH, and on discerning erotica sites such as Frolic Me.
Content warning: this conversation might change the way you think about the middle ages. Also, they talk about sex, a lot. Apparently, it's a medieval thing.
You can follow Dr Janega on Twitter @GoingMedieval, support her work on Patreon, read her blog and pre-oder her book The Middle Ages: A Graphic History, illustrated by Neil Max Emmanuel.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980)

In what is certainly the most comedically inclined Extra Milestone yet, I am joined by my very close personal friend Tyler Chambers to discuss a pair of classics within the genre. We begin with a lengthy rundown of Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam’s 1975 cult favorite Monty Python and the Holy Grail, complete with behind-the-scenes stories, details we’ve noticed over the years, our personal experiences with the movie, analyses of the film’s comedic stylings, and revisits of our favorite sequences. Then we move on to John Landis’s 1980 musical road comedy The Blues Brothers. We discuss the film’s story structure, cast, presentation, and deadpan sense of humor, as well as how all of those things compare and contrast surprisingly well with Holy Grail. Afterward, we both give a recommendation to pair with each movie, some much more unexpected than others!

NOTE: Due to a variety of unfortunate technical errors, the sound quality of this episode is a bit worse than usual. Sorry about that!

NEXT WEEK: Jason Read returns to Extra Milestone to discuss Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (his favorite film) and both of Joe Dante’s Gremlins movies!

Music in this Episode: “Homeward Bound” by Jack Trombey and “Country Wide” by Anthony Mawer, both from Monty Python and the Holy Grail
