    Episode 254 - Milk Money

    Episode 254 - Milk Money

Next up for Movie Challenge 5 is Milk Money. The 1994 comedy starring Melanie Griffith as "V", the hooker with a heart of gold, Michael Patrick Carter as the annoying son who wanted to see said hooker naked but inadvertently brings her to his home, and Ed Harris the loser dad who's memorized by the very same hooker.

Problematic may be one word to describe this film, but is there more to it than meets the eye?

    Episode 39: Body Double

    Episode 39: Body Double

This week on Remainders we continue De Palma Days and talk about 1984 film Body Double. Possibly De Palma’s most Hitchcockian film, it’s the story of a man caught in between voyeurism and murder – essential Hitchcock tropes. We discuss its horror and pornographic elements, De Palma’s use of over-the-top acting and direction style, lead actor Craig Wasson’s effectiveness as the lead, Melanie Griffith’s introduction to Hollywood, and where it stands in De Palma’s filmography.

Other topics include Air and the Affleck brothers, Renfield, a legendary encounter with the great Leslie Nielson, the legitimacy of TMZ and CNN, the Twilight Zone, Stuart Gordon, monster movies and creature features, 80s special effects, and whether James Cameron brought Dee Dee Ramone pizza.

BRIAN DEPALMA: Split Screens, Swirling Cameras and Shower Scenes

BRIAN DEPALMA: Split Screens, Swirling Cameras and Shower Scenes

The Cinemondo gang discuss one of their favorite filmmakers:  Brian DePalma. We take a close look at some of his classics like OBSESSION, DRESSED TO KILL, BLOW OUT and BODY DOUBLE and the ups and downs of his impressive career crafting sometimes impossibly complex films that almost demand multiple viewings. He gathers A-List actors like Michael Caine, John Travolta, Angie Dickinson, Nic Cage and Melanie Griffith to make his cinematic dreams come true.

He’s often compared to Hitchcock, or accused of stealing from him. He’s accused of indulging in gratuitous shower scenes and voyeur fetishes. He’s even been called “immature” but despite a few clinkers, his list of intensely watchable and fascinatingly twisty films is something we all agree on. His films are CINEMA at its more entertainingly engaging and finely crafted. You have to pay attention to all of the details and keep your eyes and ears open. Join us as we heap the praise on one of our favorite filmmakers, Brian De Palma.

SPOILER WARNING: This episode contains MAJOR SPOILERS which means important story details will be revealed. We always advise listeners to: Watch First Listen Later.
