Daniel Artest: "Da Guardian" (Brother of Metta World Peace)

Daniel Artest: "Da Guardian" (Brother of Metta World Peace)

Ron Artest once said that his brother could have easily played in the NBA. His game was unique to say the least. Standing at a generous 6’4’’, the 265 pounder played the Center/Forward spot effectively with his high basketball IQ, explosive vertical leap, and 7’3’ wingspan. He was a self-taught basketball player who has earned the respect from hoopers and recieved the nickname "Da Guardian". We always heard about the stories, so we went ahead and tracked down Daniel Artest to learn from the man himself.

Artest never played a minute of High School basketball, only AAU where he played with former number one player in the nation, Lenny Cooke. He went the Junior College route where he earned an opportunity to play overseas and even cracked an NBA Summer League team with the Sacramento Kings. Daniel could flat out HOOP and there are plenty of stories here about playing at the Rucker tournaments, working out with the Pacers, Malice at the Palace, NBA Summer League, Overseas, all the famous hip hop artists he grew up with, and MUCH more.

We loved our time with Daniel and we can’t thank him enough for all of the knowledge, laughs, and time he shared with us. He also has his own Podcast so be sure to check it out if you love Daniel as much as we did! He is continuing to make a name for himself and we can guarantee that big things lie ahead.

    Thank you Daniel Artest!

Malice at the Palace (Part 2) - The Aftermath

Malice at the Palace (Part 2) - The Aftermath

Be sure to check out Part 1 before you continue on with this episode. Now that we have covered what happened both before and during the chaos that will forever be known as "Malice at the Palace", today we discuss the aftermath of this night and how it would change the course of the season, careers, lives, and the game of basketball all-together. The fines and punishments given to players and fans is something that we may never see again, and left a huge black eye on the NBA.

We also have special guest Brent Judy joining us today. Brent is a longtime Detroit Pistons fan who will never forget that night. He joins us for a great conversation about the aftermath and provides great insight on what it was like to be a Pistons fan during this time. We discuss the future of both teams after this night, mental health, who's to blame, and much more.

    Enjoy!

    Malice at the Palace

    Malice at the Palace

November 19th, 2004 is the night that changed sports forever. If you are old enough to remember Malice at the Palace then you are almost guaranteed to remember exactly where you were when it happened as it is known as the most infamous brawl in NBA history. If you are a huge sports fan, you've probably seen the highlights from this night over 100 times in your lifetime and you’re likely to discover something new happening in the background each time.

Most of you know what happened that night (and of course we will cover that), but it is what we DIDN'T know going into that night that makes this even more bone-chilling. The one thing we tend to forget as sports fans is that these players are people, and everybody is going through something. Off-court issues may have led to certain actions and frustrations that night, but no one cares to mention that. We want to lay out the FACTS and the LIES from that night so you can relive the craziness one last time… only this time with an open mind.

If you would like to follow along to our time stops so that you have a visual while we're discussing the brawl, then you may listen while watching this YouTube clip posted below.

Also-Special thanks to fan favorite Tony Alvarado for his contributions!

The Year in Fantasy Basketball: 2004-05

The Year in Fantasy Basketball: 2004-05

Matt Stroup and Steve Alexander first talk some recent fantasy hoops, with Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins heaping a lavish comparison (Giannis Antetokounmpo) upon 20-year-old Jaren Jackson Jr. Then, we hop into the fantasy hoops time machine to visit the 2004-05 season in all its glory. Join us as we remember an incredible seven games from Ron Artest, vintage years for Larry Hughes and Gilbert Arenas with the Wizards, Allen Iverson and Chris Webber both in Philly, and Marcus Camby's tenure as a profoundly underrated 30-something.

Conference Finals now best of three; plus Metta World Peace

Conference Finals now best of three; plus Metta World Peace

Both NBA Conference Finals are tied 2-2 in both the East and West — and breaking that down is not even the best part of this podcast. That's because NBA champion Metta World Peace joins us to talk about his new book, "No Malice: My Life in Basketball or: How a Kid from Queensbridge Survived the Streets, the Brawls, and Himself to Become an NBA Champion." World Peace discusses the time he cracked Michael Jordan's ribs in a summer game, how he was nervous before Game 7 of the NBA Finals in 2010, and how he was a pioneer in NBA players talking about mental health (Metta's portion of the podcast starts at 30:17). Before that, Dan Feldman and Kurt Helin of NBC Sports discuss LeBron James bringing Cleveland back, but with the Celtics going home will the young players wearing green respond and change the momentum around again? And do the Warriors have another gear and the ability to win another game on the road in Houston?
