Deepa Purushothaman knows what it feels like to be the only minority in a room. She spent 20 years working for Deloitte, where she was the first Indian-American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in the company’s history.  At the time, there was no one who looked like Deepa in a similar role. Her ideas on how to rework work culture will transform corporate America, making it a community where we all feel heard and respected. In this episode, Hala and Deepa talk about the importance of representation in media, how workplaces can be improved, “Inclusion Delusions” in corporate America, and the future of the workplace. Ep. 519 - The Left Introduces The Racial Version Of 'Believe All Women'

Ep. 519 - The Left Introduces The Racial Version Of 'Believe All Women'

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, believe all women has been reborn, except now it has been racialized. Before we were told that we must believe any woman who claims she was sexually assaulted or harassed. Now we are told that we must believe any non-white person who claims they were the victim of racism. But this idea is just as dangerous and irrational as “believe all women.” Also Five Headlines, including a true American hero who stood up against two women hectoring him over not wearing a mask. You have to see the video. And in our daily cancellation, I cancel the makers of a children’s toy, for causing me life threatening injuries.

Microaggressions are a big deal: How to talk them out and when to walk away

Microaggressions are a big deal: How to talk them out and when to walk away
Microaggressions are the everyday, thinly veiled instances of racism, homophobia, sexism and other biases that come across in gestures, comments or insults. But the "micro" doesn't mean that the acts don't have a big impact. While there's no one right way to address a microaggression, we have some pointers for ways you can begin to respond.

Ep. 415 - The Staff Of Color

Ep. 415 - The Staff Of Color

Pete Buttigieg, the most spiteful and divisive man in politics, recently sent a memo to his "staff of color" soliciting complaints about their white colleagues. We'll talk about why this is one of the more racist things an American politician has done in recent years. Also prosperity televangelist Paula White, President Trump's spiritual advisor, prays for "miscarriages" (though she says she was taken out of context) and sends curses upon aquatic demons in "the marine kingdom." And finally we'll discuss the refreshingly wholesome #girldad trend on social media.

#153: Microaggressions and The Rise of Victimhood Culture

#153: Microaggressions and The Rise of Victimhood Culture

In the last few years we've seen an interesting phenomenon, especially on college campuses, where students will take slights or even just awkwardness incredibly sensitively and emotionally. Two sociologists have gotten together -- Bradley Campbell and Jason Manning -- and published a paper and theory about why this "victimhood" culture has arisen on campuses. We talk about this paper, as well as honor, dignity, masculinity, and more.
