Can we unlearn implicit biases? With Mahzarin Banaji, PhD

Can we unlearn implicit biases? With Mahzarin Banaji, PhD
The idea that people have biases that operate below the level of conscious thought is uncomfortable. But decades of research have found that many people who would never consciously agree with prejudiced statements against Black people, LGBTQ people or women can nonetheless harbor implicit biases toward these groups and others. Mahzarin Banaji, PhD, one of the pioneers of implicit bias research, talks about where implicit biases come from, the difference between implicit bias and prejudice, and which biases have lessened – and which have not – in recent years.

Bonus Feed Drop: Implicit Bias on the REAL GOOD podcast

Bonus Feed Drop: Implicit Bias on the REAL GOOD podcast

Ohulloh! This is not your regular Ologies episode (which will come on Tuesday per usual.) It’s actually not an Ologies episode! This is a fun little bonus GUEST podcast we're dropping in our feed. Real Good is a show that started during the beginning of COVID to highlight different non-profits helping with the pandemic — but soon revealed that many problems that became so acute during quarantine had existed in people's lives for a long time prior. We care a lot about the issues they address (race, class, gender, mental health, affordable housing, etc.) so we were down to partner up with Real Good and share an episode of theirs with the always thoughtful, kind, and generous Ologies audience in our own feed.

This is the second episode of their second season entitled "Just Admitting It Isn't Enough with Lynda Negron.” Lynda served as program director of an anti-implicit bias training organization. If you dig the show you can subscribe to it wherever you get your podcasts.

And this Tuesday, get ready for the usual Ologies fare, as we deep dive with the most boopable aquatic beasts. Burbye.

Diversity: The Key to Wealth- w/ Ed Mylett

Diversity: The Key to Wealth- w/ Ed Mylett
There is a pathway to RICHNESS that I haven’t talked about before… COVID-19 has sucked the life, liberty, and happiness from so many of us around the world. Daily living has become difficult. Our routines have become stale and the connections with our communities have been drastically reduced as we social distance. As a result, we are experiencing less and less diversity in our day to day lives than ever before. And this is a MAJOR problem because believe it or not, humans NEED diversity to grow! On top of that, there is a direct correlation between how much variety you experience and the amount of happiness, success, and wealth you acquire. That means we MUST surround ourselves with diverse people AND diverse experiences if we ever want to reach our full potential! DIVERSITY is the pathway to richness… spiritually, emotionally, and financially. We are NOT all the same and that’s the point! All of our differences combined creates the most beautiful thing on this planet… DIVERSITY. And I’m not just talking about skin color. I’m talking about embracing diversity in every area of life including experiences, family life, spirituality, education, and business! In this episode, I’m breaking down why it’s so DANGEROUS to keep hanging out with the same types of people and having the same types of experiences, and revealing how you can bring some spice back to your life… even with NO budget! I’m sharing how you can use the POWER of diversity to make your business better, your family better, your faith better, your relationships better, and make YOU better! 2020 has been difficult for EVERYONE. We all have a comeback we need to make. You can CHANGE your life by EMBRACING DIVERSITY and this video will teach you how. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 115 - We Can’t Breathe: Facing the Pain of Racism

Episode 115 - We Can’t Breathe: Facing the Pain of Racism

Racial injustice takes one’s breath away. It reaches back to the psychic asphyxiations of the Middle Passage, slavery, and Jim Crow—cut-offs from home, family, freedom and justice. Racism persists in systemic inequities and ongoing instances of police violence.

The death of George Floyd, handcuffed, pleading, and unable to breathe, has inspired a collective rising in protest against current brutality and historic inhumanity. Breath as essence, consciousness and soul gives voice to lamentation and outrage. We cry out for the clean air of fairness, because racism is utterly breathtaking. Dr. Fanny Brewster joins us for today’s important discussion.
